Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan
chw42 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 22, 2009 -> 09:56 AM) this would be a great move for the yankees....cabrera is useless now that they have granderson, and vazquez is at worst a slightly above average league pitcher his shortcomings in crunch time have been greatly exaggerated on this site since 2006.....he had a brutal final 3 starts in 2008, but 8 of his 9 starts before that were QS (and you can't tell me games in august and september don't matter), and the 1 that wasn't was 7 IP 4 ER.... When games "mattered" in 2006, he put up a 3.41 ERA in August, and a 3.82 ERA in September (with 4 out of 5 september starts having 10+ K's) Then last year he brought his team back into legitimacy in the NL east and wild card with a year that was so underappreciated around baseball...he was probably a top 3 or 5 starter in the NL last year ..... a 1.03 WHIP and 238 Ks His overall numbers in September/October on winning AL teams 2004 w/Yankees 6 GS, 1-2, 34.1 IP, 6.29 ERA, 37 H, 24 ER, 29 K, 16 BB 2006 w/White Sox 6 GS, 0-4, 40 IP, 4.28 ERA, 33 H, 19 ER, 57 K, 10 BB 2008 w/White Sox 6 GS, 2-4, 31.2 IP, 6.25 ERA, 31 H, 22 ER, 30 K, 13 BB Total: 18 GS, 3-10, 107 IP, 5.47 ERA, 101 H, 116 K, 39 BB, 1.31 WHIP You were saying? -
Toronto gets another young arm who has a lot of upside.

Yankees near deal for Javy Vazquez & Boone Logan

Have they not learned? He's still the same damn pitcher. If you told me we could have Javy back, I wouldn't want him back. Stupid move. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 01:37 PM) Whole-heartedly endorse this list. One game that's a shame to have a cloud over it for losing, was when Iguchi went nuts with a 3R homer and then a granny to tie it up vs. the 'stros?, a game we ultimately lost. Also C-Lee walking-off the cubs with a granny. Or A.J.'s three run shot off the Dumpster in 06?

I think our OF defense cost us around 30-35 runs according to UZR. Dye was like a -20, Quentin was a -5, and Pods was like a -2 or 3. Anderson was positive, as was Wise. Kotsay was slightly negative. So yeah, around a -30 UZR in the outfield truly sucks.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 09:53 PM) I remember trying to convince you all this guy was a huge pile of s***! Might not be anything special, but from the looks of it, he sure as hell hasn't done anything to make him a pile of s***.

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) I still cannot believe Oliver is even relevant. He's terrible. He was actually pretty good last year. He's just old.
-
QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) And every year they've had it other than 2K5. They simply don't do it right. I'd rather have them do it instead of Kush Games. 2K7 was a decent game, but I'd rather have the developers who made 2K5 have a hand in making the game.
-
Jason Marquis got $15 million in 2 years from the Nationals. Totally not necessary.
-
PK's slam should be higher. Buehrle's perfect game might be too high. And what's 4 homers against Randy Johnson doing up there?
-
This was the team that got me interested in baseball. Good times, good times. And 03 hurt even more since the Cubs got to the NLCS.
-
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) Bruce Levine thinks Pods will be a good Cf for the cub.........do the cubs play in the MLB or some fictitious land Pods and the ivy filled brick wall just don't match.
-
If Dolsi stops walking people, he can become a decent reliever.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 19, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Supposedly Bradley really disliked D. Lee last season because he felt that D. Lee hung out too much with the white players on the Cubs. So Bradley didn't like D-Lee because he didn't segregate himself like a loser?
-
QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 20, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Well you also have to assume that the price would have been higher if the Sox were also bidding on him. Not a lot higher, but maybe $500k-$1M higher. Yeah right. I don't think players want to play in Oakland.
-
Crisp is going to sign with Oakland. Most likely $4.5-5 million. That Pierre deal looks pretty good right now.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) OMG thats a terrible trade. Shows how terrible his value is. Shows how stupid Hendry is. You don't trade a guy with a similar contract for one that's worse than him. You just don't. Oh wait: Cubs got $9 million in this deal. Still though, Carlos Silva? LOL
-
ROFL. One bad contract for another. Thing is, Silva's a hell of a lot worse than Bradley.
-
QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 01:57 AM) Nick Johnson is signing a 1 year deal for 5.5M with the yankees pending a physical. How do we let him and Matsui, prime Lefty DH candidates go to other teams for so little. Neither the yanks no angels are overpaying for either of the two. Why cant the sox get those guys for a similar price, they are exactly what we need. Makes no sense. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/yank...ck-johnson.html I feel like we are being discriminated against.
-
We already have our poor man's Mark DeRosa in Teahen.
-
Atkins and Mike Gonzalez to Baltimore. Atkins gets one year, money is not clear at this point. Gonzalez gets 2 years and $12 million with up to $16 million with incentives.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 01:03 AM) Man, ESPN hates the Sox. During the coverage they listed the 1-2 Punches in starting rotations for MLB staffs. Mariners: Felix Hernandez, Cliff Lee Red Sox: Josh Beckett, Jon Lester Yankees: CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett Giants: Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain Cardinals: Chris Carpenter, Adam Wainwright Phillies: Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels How is Peavy, Buehrle/Danks/Floyd not on there? It's better than the Yankees (Burnett not bing that great), Phillies (unless Hamels returns to form), the Red Sox (I'd take Peavy over Beckett, and Danks/Floyd at times are just as good as Lester). /southsidebias Also, the Phillies made out like bandits in this trade...just wow. And Wallace on the move again keeps reminding me of how loaded the top of the 2008 draft was: Slayer, Posey, Wallace, Alonso, Smoak... I don't think most people know that the White Sox have 4 above average starters.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 17, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) Correct me if I'm wrong, but at one point, he was one hell of a prospect, wasn't he? Ranked #8 in the Rangers organization in 2006. #9 in 2007. He wasn't great, but he was at least decent. He was drafted in the 46th round, so he kind of came out of nowhere.

QUOTE (Real @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) From Merkin's twitter: Pshh, free agents DO want to come here ! At one point, Botts looked like a decent prospect.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 11:31 PM) Pierre will lead off and Beckham will likely hit 2nd. Because Ozzie doesn't like going with 3+ righties in a row, expect Kotsay, Teahen, or (probably) AJ hitting clean-up. L Pierre LF R Beckham 2B R Quentin RF L AJ C R Konerko 1B R Ramirez SS L Teahen 3B R Rios CF R Jones DH Start planning the parade route. Oh god... A.J. might be the worst cleanup hitter in the history of cleanup hitters.
