  1. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) 2008? I just saw that he hit almost .500 in last year's ALDS, so yeah, the past two postseasons.
  2. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) Yeah, all Carrasco did for us was work 132 IP in 1.5 seasons out of the bullpen for us with a 3.82 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. I agree that he's not a setup man and he belongs in LR, but let's not be stupid. When I meant overrate, I meant that the organization overrated his talent level, not exactly his past performance. Like to the point where they might think he's good enough to take on bigger roles when he's not.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 05:49 AM) Perfect for a backup. Shoppach was money in 08 though. He has the potential to hit 25 home runs with a high slugging % as a regular. I think that's something Tampa might look into.
  4. $7 million for him? I don't think so. Not in this market.
  5. Billy Wagner got $7 million? Talk about overpaying!
  6. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) Agreed. Carrasco is ready for an expanded role. No question he was good in his role last year, but we cant wait to see if the guys who are supposed to get late inning outs...will. Carrasco isn't that great of a pitcher in all honesty. He doesn't have the stuff to be in a setup role. His fastball is okay, but his secondary pitchers just don't scream setup man. His under-arm curveball is nice, but once hitters see that enough, it won't be that effective. Keep Carrasco where he is. It seems like Ozzie and the organization loves to overrate the guy for some weird reason.
  7. With the money we're paying him, you might as well use him in middle relief. Ozzie will end up doing that anyway. What we'll see is that Linebrink will be at least halfway decent coming into the year and then absolutely fail in July and beyond. So for about the first couple of months, Linebrink might not be such a huge issue as long as he's not a setup man.
  8. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Dec 2, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) I feel like Vlad has always been bad facing the white sox. Though maybe i'm just thinking about 05 postseason. Up till this past postseason, Vlad has been horrible in the playoffs. So it's not only us...
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) What exactly is the difference between the current points in their careers? Neither has any business playing the outfield everyday but one is willing to accept a full time DH position and the other is not. They've also put up nearly identical production over the past 2 years with the only real difference being that Vlad missed some time last year. I'd say Vlad has considerably more upside as a hitter. You're right, both are pretty much the same at this point. However, Dye ended last year hitting like crap while Guerrero ended the year pretty strong. Plus, I'd also say that Guerrero is actually a little better of a fielder than Dye at this point, but only because Dye sucks a lot. Lastly, I think Guerrero's name puts people in the seats. More so than Dye or Thome. I thought the Sox didn't have that much to spend, how are we going to afford both Guerrero and Putz? I mean, I would love to get both, but I just don't see it.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 1, 2009 -> 10:27 PM) Kelly Shoppach isn't exactly a catcher for the future. He's a damn good power hitter though.
  11. So I saw that Mike McKenzie got picked off the street and played really well for the Saints against Brady and the Pats offense. I also thought that the Bears needed some god damn help in the secondary. I also knew that Nick Roach sucked at being a line backer and that anybody off the scrap heap could have been better. I guess Bears management didn't know any of this before they signed Cato June when the team is now out of playoff contention. Way to stay on top of the game.
  12. I like this. He did have a 1.35 WHIP last year though. Nothing dominating.
  13. I would jump for joy if we can get Okajima, Bard, and Ellsbury. Seems kind of unrealistic.
  14. Wow, that's gold. Seriously, why can't MLB.com hire some people who are good at Photoshop? That's atrocious.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 12:49 PM) Wise was done in Chicago the moment Ozzie laid eyes on Mark Kotsay. This proves that Ozzie is not racist. Let's hope to god that Kotsay hits as well as he did with us last year.
  16. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 10:00 PM) I don't know why fans are so fixated on this deal. Jones won't get more than 200 plate appearances and he shouldn't. He may play the OF once every couple Sundays, but it's not gonna be often. The Sox just aren't counting much at all on Jones and the size of their offer proves it. He's making less then Dwayne Wise did last year. Will you count on him if he puts up a .390 wOBA like he did until August? Jones had a hamstring injury in August and sucked for a while. At one point, he was hitting .250 with an OPS near .900. He was an absolute force for 3 months last year in Texas. There's still some hope that he can be a decent platoon DH.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) Atleast the Sunday lineups will be a hell of a lot more fun. Honestly, the first thing I thought of when I heard about this signing was Jermaine Dye signing with the White Sox for the first time. Dye was 2 years younger, but went through a similar transgression - .792, .514, .793 from 2002-2004, and then he came back with an .846 OPS for the Sox and was very solid beyond that. Jones has put up .724, .505, and .786 over the previous 3 seasons. I'm not going to predict an .850 OPS over 550 plate appearances, just noticing the similarities. I really, really like this signing. I just wish there was a team option for next season. Good catch, but you also have to look at the sample sizes. .786 in 300 some plate appearances isn't really convincing enough. Given Jones' weight issues, I have trouble seeing him out there for more than 400 plate appearances. Especially if the Sox want him to fill in at the corner outfield positions at times.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) Not both, but either plus Jenksy. B.J. Upton is a special kind of talent. lol, the Rays want to get rid of salary to keep Crawford, not add it.
  19. Bonds hasn't played baseball in a year... It might take him a while to get back in the swing of things. Plus, he's 45. If he doesn't perform well to start the year (which I guess he wouldn't), the fans will start to b**** and the media will go crazy. Plus, this puts a lot of national attention (pressure) on the White Sox. Not sure if you really want that. As good as this looks on paper, there are numerous other problems with it that will screw it up. Plus, I'm sure chemistry wouldn't even exist in the clubhouse with Barry the douchebag around and the team not winning. How will Ozzie deal with him?
  20. Honestly, are you questioning the man who got Jake Peavy without cleaning the farm and Alex Rios for free? How dare you!
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 26, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) Why wouldn't we have the money/prospects to get one of these guys? I agree acquiring both of them is close to impossible, but it's not far-fetched to think we could get one of them, especially Upton who is coming off a poor season. If the Rays are serious about keeping Crawford long-term, I think they might move Upton sooner rather than later. I also think he might come cheaper than most people think. Are you willing to part with Dan Hudson and Tyler Flowers for Upton? In all honesty, I'm not and I don't think the organization is either. As much talent as Upton possesses, he's nowhere near a guarantee to play up to his full potential given the track record of his past two seasons. This team is already banking on a couple of guys coming off bad years where they did not play anywhere close to the levels that their talent level was. Are you going to throw half of your farm at a guy of similar caliber? I wouldn't do it, not for this season at least.
  22. Since when did we turn into the Boston Red Sox? We don't have the money or the prospects (well we do, but do you want to trade Beckham or Hudson?) to get one of those guys you listed, let alone 2... Be realistic people.
  23. So another legendary White Sox center fielder goes to Philly...
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) Manny is next... That's a move I would definitely support.
