  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 10:41 AM) The movement on his pitches last night was incredible. His last two starts should dispel the myth that he can't be a Cy Young-type pitcher outside of Petco/the NL. He did pitch in Comerica, which is a pretty big pitcher's park. The ball Guillen hit last night would have been a home run at the Cell. Still, Peavy was downright nasty, but he was still helped out by the ballpark. It also looks like he's a Tiger tamer.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) Good ol' Ritchie.... http://chetchitchat.wordpress.com/ If I were Fukudome, I would be kind of scared...(article right below the one you posted).
  3. If Greinke does indeed win it, it'll be the fourth straight year in which the winner of the Cy Young in the AL has come out of the Central. It would have been 6 years had Santana won it in 05 like he should have. Pretty interesting stuff.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 08:52 PM) Would Greinke not winning the CY be more of an abomination than Santana not getting it in 2005? I'd say yes. Even more so. It's between C.C., Felix, and Greinke. Colon was nowhere near as good as any of those three back in 2005.
  5. Considering the mediocre team, poor weather in the spring, and the bad economy, not horrible. The economy is improving, let's hope we'll spend some more money this off-season because of that.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 27, 2009 -> 02:12 AM) he's got a point; there really weren't any good college games on tonight. okay, seriously, Williams says some guys are quitters, ozzie goes off...so who is this aimed at? Who cares about college football, Alexi? Nope. Rios? Maybe. AJ...Paulie...JD...? A.J. is a huge Gators fan.
  7. Robertson's done. Why does Mike Huff always call players by their first names?
  8. Unless something like 05 happens, that's not a very good bullpen. You're going to need career years out of Pena, Carrasco, Thornton, and Linebrink to have a solid bullpen. I honestly don't see that happening.
  9. Johnson would make a good two hole hitter. High contact rate, has a good OBP, extremely selective with good plate discipline. He'd come at a reasonable price as well. He doesn't have enough power to bat 5th or 6th, but in a lineup filled with possible right handed hitters, he'd make a hell of a pick-up if he's healthy. I like it.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 02:19 PM) I'd kill to have Mark Lowe on this team. He's pretty much Matt Thornton with a better breaking ball. And right handed.
  11. QUOTE (Pumpkin Escobar @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) Getting guys like Reyes and Hanley are pipe dreams. Reyes, for one, may be one of the more overrated players in baseball. Not that he isn't good - just the amount of love that guys gets every year preseason from espn or fantasy world stuff is ridiculous. The 20/80 expectations and the 150 runs he is going to score from DL. Tools galore, just he has become a guy who may never be able to reach his potential because people make it so outrageous. I know a lot of the names like Hanley, Reyes, Josh Johnson, Adrian Gonzalez and others are available but we no longer have the pieces to make those deals. Unless baseball is suddenly in love Hudson and Flowers as blue chip prospects instead of just very good ones. I'd love to get a big name but I don't see it happening unless Kenny can fleece a team into paying a premium for Konerko, Jenks, or whoever else would be dealt. I'd love to see us just nab some bullpen. Some guys who I saw this year who looked good and can probably be had for cheap... Kiko Calero - he rebounded this year. Tough to know where he goes from here but he looked like the same guy that showed up in Oakland in that Mulder deal. David Robertson - The Admiral? Close though. He looked good for NYY and it's not uncommon business practice to show a little kind gesture for ripping a team in a trade as they did with Swish. A little good faith goes a long way and the Yankees should offer us a nice gesture, especially if Swish plays well into the Series. Mark Lowe - Seattle's got a lot of arms out there and hopefully they keep our buddy David at closer and let this guy go to us. Jason Bulger in Anahiem. Good stuff. Another guy who I saw live and liked. None of those guys are overpowering players or ego's. They go do their jobs and getting a couple of them in our pen could help. I'd love to get Huston Street at the back end of things but who knows if the Rockies still want to move him. Much bigger name and price tag but damn he is good. And somehow he gets away with not pitching off the rubber. Remarkable. Outside of that, we can get into the list of usual suspects offensively but we all know Dunn, Abreu, Crawford, Upton, etc. are people we'd like to see here and won't. I personally love to get a Howie Kendrick on this club. I can see us ending up with like Hideki Matsui at DH next year. Not horrible but he just seems like he'd be all that is available in terms of a cheap, power hitting, left-handed bat. I think KW may remake a chunk of that offense. We shall see. We can take a chance with Billy Wagner. I also like Rafael Soriano a lot, but he might cost a bit too much.
  12. Where's Kotsay? He's hit .304 with us with a 105 OPS+. That's great for a bench player.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 25, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) Another way to look at it...who do you think has the best shot to beat the Yankees in a 5 game series, if that's your thing? If I'm the Yankees, I'd be scared to death of facing Verlander and Jackson in NY, followed by Robertson and Verlander in Detroit, and then Jackson again in NY. That's the kind of pitching onslaught that could leave the best offense wondering what happened. I'd love to face Nate Robertson any day... What happened to Washburn and Porcello...? I know Washburn stunk it up, but he has playoff experience.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:17 PM) Granderson (ain't gonna happen) Ichiro (why not?) realistically bullpen help (I can't think of anybody specifically) Holladay!!! So now Matt Holliday and Roy Halladay come together to form Matroy Holladay? He'd be today's Babe Ruth then.
  15. Lol, seriously? Braun and Kemp? I wish... Buehrle might get us a Colby Rasums, maybe.
  16. It should go to either Greinke or Felix. But knowing how these things go, If C.C. wins 20 games (he has the best chance to), he's going to win the thing.
  17. I think Dye's dropoff might be the #1 reason with Buehrle's mediocre second half behind that. The bullpen's been bad as well. I don't know, it's probably a combination of the three.
  18. Garbage for garbage. If we keep Bradley in check and the Cubs eat half of his salary, I don't see why. He fits into the lineup pretty well as a left handed bat that we will be lacking next year. As long as he does well (hit for his career averages at least), the fans will stay off of him and he should be perfectly fine as long as he doesn't get hurt. He'd make an okay DH.
  19. Some idiot from Baseball Prospectus thought a Peavy and Zambrano swap was possible. All I have to say is: EPIC FAIL. Zambrano makes more, has more problems, and might be as productive as Peavy.
  20. We gotta run Forte more come next week. Cutler had a hell of a game. Knox is going to be a pretty damn good receiver.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) How old are you? If you truly wish injury on a fellow human being, IMO something is wrong with you or the way you were raised. If this is considered a personal attack, turn me into the humane police force. Your second sentence is the worst single sentence I've ever read on Soxtalk. There can be none worse than that sentence. Ever. Oh yeah, like the people who were asking if this would be a sustained injury meant something totally different from what I said. I'm pretty sure all of us have gotten mad and irritated at some player of the opposing team, especially on the Twins or even any divisional rival. If, say, Miguel Cabrera gets hurt before a big series against the Tigers, I'm sure a lot of you would be cheering for him not to play in that said series. Hell, if it's a divisional race like it is now, most of you will be happy that he won't be able to contribute much for the rest of the year. It's not that I wish serious injury upon other people so that they would die (I don't know why any of you would infer that since I compared it to Joe Crede's injury, which is NOT life-threatening), it's just that it would make our life easier, as Sox fans if they did not play and do damage against the team we root for. Don't tell me that Vikings fans and Packers fans aren't somewhat glad over Urlacher's injury. It's not that they wanted that to happen, it's that it did happen, it benefits their team, and they are happy because it benefits their team. They had nothing to do with the injury. And really, if that's the worst thing you've seen on the internet, you should open up to the internet a bit more...
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 07:53 PM) What do you think happens if a broken bone in your spinal column moves around too much? It would be a life-threatening condition, obviously. But this is not life-threatening, yet, and neither is Crede's injury.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 16, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) Yeah, its only the guys life and livelihood we are talking about... But hopefully a bus hits you tonight for this post. He's made somewhere around $80 million guaranteed in his career already. I don't think he's going to find himself living on the streets if something bad happens to him. Now, if I got ran over by a bus, I'd be dead. If he has back problems, the worst place he will find himself is a nice house in paradise. Big difference.
