  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 10:42 PM) Contreras might have to take some accountability for the meatball pitches, walks and hits Yeah, he gave up one home run to Hairston. Then he gets the next guy to hit a routine fly ball, Rios drops it. He hit a guy on 0-2, that's his fault. The next ball is a routine grounder to Nix. He should be out of the inning. I don't want excuses saying he should pitch over mistakes. 1) He pitched over one in the previous inning 2) anytime you give a team 5 outs, they will score a lot of runs on you. I don't know how the official scorer can say that the ball Cust hit was actually a hit. Nix bobbled it for 5 seconds.
  2. I don't know how you can blame Jose for this. We gave the A's five outs in the 4th inning. This defense is absolutely atrocious.
  3. That was inexcusable. How do you not make a routine catch on a fly ball? Rios screwed that up, that was Carlos' ball. I know the CF is in command of the OF, but Carlos had a easier chance of making that play. And Nix, what the hell? How do you screw up a routine grounder like that? This team's defense is why it won't be anything but mediocre.
  4. Who is Mike Huff? I thought that ball was close enough for a review. Would have been really cool to go up 9-0 and have Rios hit his first dinger for us.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) Most of us are guessing he probably already cleared, maybe 2 weeks ago. No one would have claimed him before seeing him pitch a few times. If that's the case, why not? Kenny's already spending a bunch.
  6. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 14, 2009 -> 08:54 AM) My brother in law knew a guy who got shot in the nuts while playing paintball and the testicle popped out. Wow thanks a lot, I was going to go paintball one last time before college next week. Now I might reconsider. I've been paintballing numerous times, never wore a cup before. Never thought of the consequences. Now you've just made me realize this and have made me totally uninterested. Thanks...
  7. Seattle also pitches better than we do... It's not just their defense, although if you hit a ball to right or center, it's probably getting caught. Ichiro and Gutierrez are beasts.
  8. Wagner won't make it through waivers. There's teams in the NL that need bullpen help.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) For the most part nationally the deal has gotten praise. It seems like the negative ones are acting like it was a rent a player deal and they have to pay all $60 million in the next month. Unfortunately, it appears that most of the population is that way. The sabermats love the deal (minority). A good amount of conventional people hate it (majority). What I don't get is that Riccardi is a sabermetric guy, he worked under Billy Beane. He must have seen something in Rios that he really did not like or the people above him forced his hand. I don't know.
  10. The Tigers looked like total crap tonight.
  11. Pedro is throwing 94. I had no idea he still had that left in him. He's around the high 80s, but he's pumped it up to the low to mid 90s at times.
  12. There's townhouses worth $1.7 million? This is new to me. Who wants to live with somebody right next door to you for that much money? At least he won't have to mow the lawn...
  13. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) But you don't have your #2 OPS guy leading off, and that's also Gordon Beckham. I thought he was our #3 OPS guy behind Dye and Thome. Whatever the case may be, I'd rather see our fastest OBP guy leadoff. Hit Alexei second if we need to. Jayson Nix might also be a good idea to leadoff. He will take a walk if he needs to.
  14. So Porcello will miss one start.
  15. At least Freddy can pitch 5 innings. That's something our back-end starters haven't been able to do lately.
  16. I think this has a lot of Jay Cutler deal written over it. People think Cutler's overrated, somewhat of a douche. People think Rios is overrated, expensive, and also somewhat of a douche. Bears have never had a QB as good as Cutler. Sox haven't had a CF like Rios since Aaron Rowand. Most Bears fans love the Cutler deal, everybody else around the country seems to hate it, not knowing the circumstances of the Bears. Most Sox fans love the Rios deal, everybody else around the country says he sucks and is expensive, not taking into account he's only 28 and the White Sox have a terrible OF that needs defensive help.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Yes, but Beckham's strengths also lend itself strongly to the two-hole. This is from a BTBS post about Tom Tango's sabermetric thoughts on lineup construction from THE BOOK. "The Books says the #2 hitter comes to bat in situations about as important as the #3 hitter, but more often. That means the #2 hitter should be better than the #3 guy, and one of the best three hitters overall. And since he bats with the bases empty more often than the hitters behind him, he should be a high-OBP player. Doesn't sound like someone who should be sacrificing, does it?" http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/3/17...-your-lineup-by So you'd rather bat Getz and his .320 OBP first? Getz would be a good leadoff candidate if his OBP was at least .345, but at .320, it seems a bit too low. Thing is, there's really no other candidates to leadoff better than Beckham (other than Podsednik, but we're leaving him out of this right now). That's why I think he should do it.
  18. You give the guy with the most speed and best OBP the shot at leading off and that's Gordon Beckham.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) Dye is a very good fielder with a good strong arm And he's also slow. Slow in the outfield does not translate to success.
  20. Somebody should tell JD that he's too damn slow to play the OF. He should know himself. Even a hobbled Carlos Quentin is faster than he is.
  21. I've been sitting him on my fantasy team. Usually, this means he should be hitting the s*** out of the ball. But, the opposite has happened. Should I start him just to see if he somehow turns it around?
