  1. Wagner won't make it through waivers. There's teams in the NL that need bullpen help.
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) For the most part nationally the deal has gotten praise. It seems like the negative ones are acting like it was a rent a player deal and they have to pay all $60 million in the next month. Unfortunately, it appears that most of the population is that way. The sabermats love the deal (minority). A good amount of conventional people hate it (majority). What I don't get is that Riccardi is a sabermetric guy, he worked under Billy Beane. He must have seen something in Rios that he really did not like or the people above him forced his hand. I don't know.
  3. The Tigers looked like total crap tonight.
  4. Pedro is throwing 94. I had no idea he still had that left in him. He's around the high 80s, but he's pumped it up to the low to mid 90s at times.
  5. There's townhouses worth $1.7 million? This is new to me. Who wants to live with somebody right next door to you for that much money? At least he won't have to mow the lawn...
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) But you don't have your #2 OPS guy leading off, and that's also Gordon Beckham. I thought he was our #3 OPS guy behind Dye and Thome. Whatever the case may be, I'd rather see our fastest OBP guy leadoff. Hit Alexei second if we need to. Jayson Nix might also be a good idea to leadoff. He will take a walk if he needs to.
  7. So Porcello will miss one start.
  8. At least Freddy can pitch 5 innings. That's something our back-end starters haven't been able to do lately.
  9. I think this has a lot of Jay Cutler deal written over it. People think Cutler's overrated, somewhat of a douche. People think Rios is overrated, expensive, and also somewhat of a douche. Bears have never had a QB as good as Cutler. Sox haven't had a CF like Rios since Aaron Rowand. Most Bears fans love the Cutler deal, everybody else around the country seems to hate it, not knowing the circumstances of the Bears. Most Sox fans love the Rios deal, everybody else around the country says he sucks and is expensive, not taking into account he's only 28 and the White Sox have a terrible OF that needs defensive help.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) Yes, but Beckham's strengths also lend itself strongly to the two-hole. This is from a BTBS post about Tom Tango's sabermetric thoughts on lineup construction from THE BOOK. "The Books says the #2 hitter comes to bat in situations about as important as the #3 hitter, but more often. That means the #2 hitter should be better than the #3 guy, and one of the best three hitters overall. And since he bats with the bases empty more often than the hitters behind him, he should be a high-OBP player. Doesn't sound like someone who should be sacrificing, does it?" http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2009/3/17...-your-lineup-by So you'd rather bat Getz and his .320 OBP first? Getz would be a good leadoff candidate if his OBP was at least .345, but at .320, it seems a bit too low. Thing is, there's really no other candidates to leadoff better than Beckham (other than Podsednik, but we're leaving him out of this right now). That's why I think he should do it.
  11. You give the guy with the most speed and best OBP the shot at leading off and that's Gordon Beckham.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) Dye is a very good fielder with a good strong arm And he's also slow. Slow in the outfield does not translate to success.
  13. Somebody should tell JD that he's too damn slow to play the OF. He should know himself. Even a hobbled Carlos Quentin is faster than he is.
  14. I've been sitting him on my fantasy team. Usually, this means he should be hitting the s*** out of the ball. But, the opposite has happened. Should I start him just to see if he somehow turns it around?
  15. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/preview09/ne...tory?id=4021631 Rios' UZR in all three outfield positions are 10+. His UZR/150 in CF is 13.4.
  16. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:01 AM) The upside and downside to adding Rios http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...?obref=obinsite 14 players in CF since 2005? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I have them all in no particular order: Owens, Mackowiak, Anderson, Ramirez, Wise, Griffey, Erstad, Swisher, Lillibridge, Podsednik, Andy Gonzalez, Terrero, Sweeney, Kotsay I'd say Rios is probably the best offensive player out of the entire bunch. And also the second best defensively behind Anderson. But I haven't seen him play much yet, so IDK.
  17. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) More productive years, the ability to play in the field every once in a while, and the ability to play in interleague games. This is such a hard decision...
  18. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) Thome's currently 38 HRs away. Given his age and propensity for nagging injuries, it's likely that he's not going to get there until early 2011. Kenny shouldn't give him a two-year deal to ensure that he hits #600 in a Sox uniform. Hell, I'm not convinced that Dye's health can be counted on for three more years. I'm thinking a one-year deal for Thome or a two-year deal for Dye, maximum. You don't think Thome can hit 38 home runs in the next year and two months? He's probably going to hit around 30 this year. So he'd have to hit 28 home runs next year. Very doable if you ask me.
  19. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:27 PM) Some of these Score callers are legit tardhards. You didn't know this?
  20. Have we ever acquired anybody from Toronto before outside of David Wells?
  21. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) Jesus, what in the holy f*** were they thinking with GM Jr? That dude made one catch and is set for life He also hit pretty damn well too...
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) If you double the financial commitment, you should win. It's not like the 60 mil is all charged on us in a year or two. It's spread out.
  23. Raul Ibanez - 37 $11 million per year for 3 years. WAR since 2004 - 14.7 Milton Bradley - 31 $10 million per year for 3 years. WAR since 2004 - 16 Adam Dunn - 29 $10 million per year for 2 years. WAR since 2004 - 15.5 Alex Rios - 28 $12 million per year for 5 years. WAR since 2004 - 17.5 We win.
