  1. Mark's been really bad against the Twins at the Metrodome these past couple of years. Let's hope that it ends tonight.
  2. Good ol' Juan Uribe. That was the game where we lost after going up 6-1.
  3. Forgot to add that on the ball Fields hit, Span broke all the way back to the wall and then ended up catching the ball right in front of the warning track. I don't think he misread it either. Something fishy.
  4. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 10:26 AM) I'm glad I'm not the only one that had that run through their head last night. That ball looked gone off his bat, looked like he hit it on the screws. The ball flight looked like a 9 iron against the wind. Paranoia probably, but off his bat it looked like he made better contact than PK had on his homer. http://www.aem.umn.edu/outreach/Baseball_L...r/startrib1.pdf Read that. A former Metrodome superintendent admitted that he tried to manipulate the air flow of the Metrodome in the later innings. They still might be doing it today. Who knows?
  5. Is it just me or does every ump in the Metrodome screw us over numerous times? I hate how the Twins always play no doubles defense. Works against us almost every time because when we hit it hard, it's always at the warning track. Good to see Carlos kill the ball tonight. But Paulie couldn't pick a boulder out of the dirt tonight.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) Cabrera would be a big upgrade for them, and it is his time of year. Plus you know he would love to stick it to the Sox. Let's just hope this trade doesn't go down during this series.
  7. Joe Mauer isn't too happy about the Twins not doing much. Apparently, Smith doesn't even want to give up some prospects and spend a million on Orlando Cabrera. But then again, who would?
  8. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) You know they play in a dome right? I was talking about their games against the Bears at Soldier Field. If you remember, Vick got his ass handed to him in that game back in 05 where it was like -10.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) I thought Oakland was all about Vick? I swear I read somewhere that Al has his sites on Vick He'd fit in well there.
  10. Vick in Minnesota...hmm. If he's gonna be a p**** and dread the cold, then bring it on.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) My thing about Bartman is how do his actions, which had minimal impact on the game at best, explain the 8 runs that followed? And the loss in Game 7? These things are completely glossed over every time. Had the Cubs not made such a big deal out of it in the first place, they probably wouldn't have lost that game. Alou even admitted later that he couldn't of caught that ball. It definitely took the Cubs' focus out of the game. That's their fault.
  12. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 09:04 AM) Saturday... Jackson: ND, 7 innings, 8 hits, 3 runs (earned), 4 walks, 3 strikeouts, 1 home run. ERA up to 2.59 Lack of strikeouts really hurt Buehrle's CyP. He's got a better ERA+ than both Beckett and Weaver and he still doesn't have a CyP rating.
  13. I'm glad Bedard got injured. Finally dropped him in fantasy. It felt really good.
  14. He wasn't even close to that ball. Every fan goes for a ball hit by them. It's pure instinct. That's why blaming Bartman is f***ing stupid. Everybody around him got up and tried to go for that ball. Turns out he was the only one who actually touched it. Nobody around him got any s*** about it.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) He won't sign before the end of the season, that's guaranteed. His agent is Boras, that's the way they roll. You want to extend him now, you offer him 10/$250. Otherwise he's hitting the FA market. The Sox should have a legitimate shot at him if they're really interested. The question is...how much do you offer a guy who's been as inconsistent, esp. in the AL, as Holliday was this year? Do you offer enough to beat what other teams might offer? Based on the last 2 years of reduced numbers and his age of 29, I'm not sure I go beyond like 3/36, and I think that's the kind of offer someone else would beat. I don't like spending stupid money, and I think someone offering him a lot would be tantamount to paying stupid money. I think you have to cut Holliday a little bit of slack. He hit in a lineup where nobody besides maybe Jack Cust and himself scared anybody. He also hit in the worst hitter's park in baseball. Yet, he still had an OPS+ of 125 in Oakland. His OPS+ was only 140 last year with Colorado. He should be somewhere close to that OPS+ this year as he's going to hit very well in St. Louis. If we are really serious about signing him this off-season, the move to St. Louis might have been the worst thing to happen. Because you know his value is going to skyrocket if the Cardinals make it into the postseason and do well. Holliday's also a pretty damn good player in October as well.
  16. The Bears are ranked 20th in Fox Sports' pre-camp power rankings. I find that impossible. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/powerRankings
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 06:14 PM) I think there's an option (at the very least) on Hudson's deal. So you really believe Ramirez would be worse out there in CF than Scotty Pods? Really? And I'm not sure about having less of an affect on the game at SS...what is the ratio of Total Chances for a SS versus a CF? Any infield with Beckham, Ramirez and Figgins is pretty scary defensively, to say the least. Interesting decisions about what happens with Pods and Getz in many future White Sox scenarios for 2010. As for those advocating Dunn, why would we dream of paying him almost the same as Thome in this market? Figgins is a pretty good at 3B. He's improved dramatically since his permanent move to the position. His UZR/150 over the past two years are all above average. Believe it or not, Alexei's UZR is still above 0 at SS this year. I'd much rather have him stay at SS and move Beckham to 2B. Beckham should finally be able to show off his SS range at 2B. 3B is just not made for him. I don't think his instincts are fast enough yet since he's been a middle infielder his entire career. Most natural SS make very good 2B. IDK if we can really rely on Pods for another good year. We tried that in 06 and look what happened. I don't know what we can get out of Getz. He's had flashes of hot and cold and he's been decent as a rookie. I love his speed. If he were to hit more consistently, he's make one hell of a leadoff hitter. I wonder if Getz can play CF...
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) Sounds like there's nothing to this rumor Sounds like Rosenthal must have been high when writing this rumor up.
  19. Cleveland is getting nothing in this deal. Morrow is a bullpen arm IMO. Clement hasn't shown much in his time up. I don't view Cliff Lee to be as valuable as either Halladay or Haren, not even close, but he should warrant more than those two guys. I think there's something wrong with Kazmir health-wise. The Rays are selling really low on him and there might be a good reason too. With Lee, the Rays could definitely give the Yankees and Red Sox a run for their money.
  20. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) Cliff Lee-S- Indians Jul. 26 - 4:47 pm et According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the Dodgers and Indians are in serious discussions about a trade that would send Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez to the Dodgers for a package including either Clayton Kershaw or Chad Billingsley. James Loney would also be involved, which makes sense because Martinez would play first base most of the time in L.A. We imagine that the Indians would prefer Kershaw, who will be a lot cheaper than Billingsley over the next few years. It's certainly be a fascinating trade if it gets done. Source: FOXSports.com That's an absolutely atrocious trade for the Dodgers. Billingsley and Kershaw have much better potential than Cliff Lee. Kershaw alone is probably worth Lee. And why the hell would they want Victor Martinez when they have Martin and Loney? Makes zero sense.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) Gulp...if the value is good, I'd consider trading Quentin. You'd be selling really low. Although I don't see how Arizona can refuse him. They were already wrong on him once.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 05:37 PM) I want to see the band (Thome and Dye) back together for another year. We also have to keep Pods. Yeah, we will be old and slow for at least another year, but that's how it's always been. We need to address Beckham first and foremost. Do we want him being our cornerstone third-baseman or middle infielder? Lexi needs to pick a position too. Orlando Hudson will be out there if we need the help. Didn't he sign a two year deal? Kenny will try his best to sign Chone Figgins. That's been his guy. He could be had for 3-4 years and $8-9 million per year. You put Figgins at either 3B or 2B and you position Beckham where ever Figgins isn't playing. Ramirez should stay at SS. I don't want him near the OF. He could make Alfonso Soriano-like mistakes out there. A mistake by a SS usually results with a man on first. A mistake in the outfield usually results with a man on second or third. I'd love Matt Holliday, but he's a Boras client. If we fail to bring in good DH or corner OF, re-sign Dye.
  23. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) I would not bring Jenks back. Crawford's an interesting guy, but if you do get him he goes to CF. Another guy who probably will be available is Dunn. Last year of contract @ 12M. He'll cost less in a trade than Crawford and if he signs an extension he'll give you Thome-like production for the next 3-4 years. He could also slide over to 1B when Konerko leaves. 2. Ramirez SS 3. Beckham 3B 4. Quentin LF 5. Dunn DH 6 Konerko 1B 7 AJP C Cost $58M minus prospects for Dunn. Eh, I'd rather get somebody less like Jim Thome.
  24. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) I have bashed Harden a few times but he threw a gem for 6 innings today and could have gone 7 easily. He is a FA after this season. Any additional thoughts on top of all the No's I have received so far? If he rocks in Aug/Sep and goes say 8-2 or 7-3 with his good stuff he will be in demand. Just say no to Rich Harden. First priority for Kenny is to go and sign Figgins. Then go from there.
