Teahen's a good player. He can hit 20 homers at the Cell. He's also better than Beckham defensively and we can plug him in just about anywhere.

QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) I think you mean "billy mays." I think it's too early to make fun of Billy. He's only been dead for a couple of weeks.

BRadke inducted into the Twins Hall of Fame

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 11:57 PM) Twins Hall of Fame dude. They don't exactly have a storied franchise like the Yankees. And 12% better than the entire league for a total of 12 seasons and 377 starts is pretty f***ing impressive. And, considering all of them were with the Twins, it has to make him a bit more deserving to be in the Twins Hall of Fame. (p.s. Nolan Ryan's career ERA+ is 111.) Nolan Ryan is the most overrated pitcher in the history of baseball. There I said it. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) His contract is awful! I see he's making $6.4 million this year. What's the rest of the deal like...?

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) You don't need to be Hall of Fame-worthy to have your number tired. Just a good player that was important to the franchise and a fan favorite. I don't really understand why fans of other teams make a big deal out of this all the time. I just got the lowdown from a Twins fan. He's not getting his number retired. They induct some crappy Twins player into their Hall of Fame every year. And I did not mean Cooperstown worthy, I meant Twins Hall of Fame worthy, lol. -
BTW, how did all these Sox Twins posts get into the Cubs thread...?

QUOTE (Nokona @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 01:18 AM) UZR is total bulls***. His numbers are skewed due to his throwing arm. Everyone knows that Brian Anderson is better defensively than Dewayne Wise and yet his UZR rating is worse than Wise's. I'm all for sabermetrics but you can't say that Alfonso Soriano is a good left fielder because of his UZR. Not completely true... Plus/Minus, which does not take arm strength into consideration, rated Soriano as one of the best left fielders while he was with Washington and in 2007 with the Cubs. He had a +15 in 2007 as a Cub. I'm pretty sure that's not going to be the same this year. UZR might be wrong at times, but you really can't complain when Plus/Minus also correlates with UZR.

I would only watch the games on TV. I just can't imagine the scene at both the Cell or Wrigley if either team won...especially the Cubs.

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:27 PM) That's what I fear as well. The last thing we need is a singles-hitting base clogger in the middle of the lineup who is also a liability in the field. I'd like to see the Sox take a financial risk and trade for Halliday, Rolen and Rios. Rolen adds a solid bat and OBP to the lineup while improving the defense at third base and allows Beckham to move to 2B where he belongs. Rios solves the CF hole this year because even his sub-par performance so far this season is much better than Anderson/Wise and he's probably going to revert back to form at some point in the future giving the Sox a solid outfielder for the next few years. With the salary coming off the books the next couple of years, the Sox could probably afford to pay these three, and by taking on their contracts should be able to pry them away from the Blue Jays without giving up any of their "untouchables". As overrated as Rios is, I would love to see him on this team.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) This is all subjective and it's entirely up to the fanbase. There is probably a pretty good chance we'll retire Buehrle and Konerko's numbers when they're done. Are those guys Hall of Famers? No. They mean a whole lot to us fans though. Fans of other teams don't appreciate them nearly as much as we do. Buehrle and Konerko have been a lot more valuable than Brad Radke though... Much more valuable. Konerko may end up hitting 350 homers in a Sox uniform. That would put him at #2 all-time on our home run list behind Frank. Why shouldn't his number be retired if we're going to retire Harold Baines' number? Besides, the man's been a White Sox for 95% of this ML career and he was one of the main reasons why the 05 team got where it did. There's a lot of good reasons to put Konerko in a White Sox hall of fame. Same goes for Mark. He could end up with 175-200 wins as a White Sox by the end of his stint here all while putting up a ERA+ that's better than 112. That's impressive. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) That "average" ERA of 4.22 in his career was also good an ERA+ of 112. That's above average. Just saying. An ERA+ of 112 is not that great... You're 12% better than league average. Woohoo! Not hall of fame worthy. -
QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) At the end of August/beginning of September, theres a rough road trip that I am terrified of. 4 in Boston, 3 in NY, 3 in Minnesota. I have a feeling that road trip will make or break us. That's what I'm scared of too. That's like a trip that's bound for a 3-7 or a 2-8 record. Yikes.

After all the s*** we've been through this first half...the going 7 under .500, the offense hitting like a AAA team, and the pitching going completely to s*** outside of Mark Buehrle, I'm awfully glad that we're 2 games over .500 and only 3.5 back in this division. That said, looking at the schedule we have in front of us, it will be a rough battle. I'd say we'll be lucky to finish a couple of games over .500. If things sway our way and we get back a 100% healthy Carlos Quentin somehow, we can definitely win this thing. But then again, I don't think that will happen. We really need to start hitting well at the Cell starting next Friday and propel this team into that Tigers series. That will be the deciding factor as to how this team will approach August and September. If we can get out of August a couple of games back, I'm pretty damn confident that we can win this thing. But then again, if things don't go our way, I don't see that happening.
-
Quentin hasn't shown any power in AAA. What makes any of us think he'll mash home runs up here...? Seriously, I'm really doubting that Carlos will do anything major for us.
-
I'm not sure if I should thank the baseball gods for the win or hate them because they f***ed with us so much.
-
If we lost this one tonight, we would have never won a game at that dump for an entire year. WOW. Not getting those insurance runs almost killed us.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 11, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) JESUS CHRIST. Thank God. I really wish we could move Beckham to 2B right now and play Nix at 3B instead...but that won't happen with how well Getz/Nix is working as a platoon right now. That mess should have never happened. If Beckham catches that ball, the game is over about 10 minutes ago.
-
I was seriously going to throw something if Span singled.
-
That was unnecessary. OMG.
-
I don't want to see Joe Crede up in the 9th inning with men on base. Make sure we get one more run to get it into slam territory.
-
Do you send Gavin out for the 8th? Only at 94 pitches. And he's been pretty good outside of two pitches to Crede.
-
Floyd tried to stay away from Crede too. Damn...
-
Again? You have to be kidding me.
-
The Indians are actually winning. Wood is in though....

Looks like today's ump didn't like Dickey's knuckleballs much. I don't blame him.
