  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) I wouldn't say he is bad. He's certainly no GG'er out there and is over hyped by the media, but he makes most of the routine plays with a few great players here and there, is very smart out there, and acts like the leader of the INF the SS needs to be. Plus, his bat certainly makes up for what you lose in D. You can do a whole lot worse at SS than Derek Jeter. If Gordon Beckham can play SS as good as Jeter, I'd be f***ing ecstatic. I'm pretty sure Gordon's already better.
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 09:13 PM) On Baseball Tonight, they're trying to say that Derek Jeter isn't a bad defensive shortstop. He's been decent this year, surprisingly. But historically, no.
  3. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 08:32 PM) I was on board to go after him. The sox could have made a decent offer. Two slap hitting outfielders? No thanks.
  4. Wouldn't it be something for Milwaukee to acquire two big name pitchers in two straight years and still not win anything? Talk about giving up the future for an NL Central title... Their rotation still wouldn't look that good with Halladay. 1. Halladay 2. Gallardo 3. Bush 4. Suppan 5. Looper The Cards' rotation can certainly compete with that.
  5. 5-0 now on Fox Saturday Baseball. If it means a win, I'll take Dick Stockton's horrible play by play. Bobby's starting to worry me a little bit. But then again, he's always bad against the O's.
  6. It's Detroit vs. Rivera. 2-1 Yankees.
  7. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) It's not like he was doing good this year. He had no control and would be forced to throw his straight fastball down the middle in hitters counts. Until he finds some control, he'll never be anything more than an over hyped SU man. He's lost the Tigers a lot of games. Kind of sucks that he won't be there to blow games anymore.
  8. At the time we lost to Bergesen, he looked like another nobody. But surprisingly, he's 6-3 with a 3.54 ERA. That's pretty damn good, especially on the O's.
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) Another problem with Teahen is that he's pretty much abysmal in RF/LF and at 2B. He's so-so at 3B, which MIGHT be better than Beckham, but not by much. So the question is whether the offensive upgrade of Teahen over the Getz/Nix platoon is worth it, and the cost of acquisition. And a lot depends on CQ. If we know he's not coming back, getting Teahen's LH bat in the line-up does make a lot more sense, because we're definitely at least one bat short still with Pods' injury history, Anderson/Wise and Getz/Nix (maybe still a tick below MLB average if you combine them, but they're not killing us, either). Teahen sucks at 2B and 3B. But he's not a bad LF. His UZR -0.7 while he played 2B for a couple of games this year. He's also had only one year where his UZR at 3B was above 0. He's below average this year at a -3.7. In LF this year, his UZR is a decent 1.9, which is pretty much what Scott Podsednik will give you.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Didn't Macdoofus make the all-star team as a royal? That was back in 2003. We got him in 2006.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) Utah has matched on Millsap. I expect Boozer to be a Bull by the end of the weekend. I just wish the Bulls organization gets wise and gets rid of Kirk. You can get similar production out of a Steve Blake off your bench. Kirk isn't that valuable. I'd much rather have Boozer than Tyrus and Hinrich, even if that means Boozer might only play 50 games a year.
  12. The only time where Ozzie went to the extreme with his starters was the 05 playoffs...and for good reason.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) I'm kind of tired of getting Royal players. So can we quit the Teahan talk? See, there's a difference between getting good Royals players and bad Royals players. It just so happens that we've acquired a lot of bad ones before. They were even bad on the Royals... You're telling me you wouldn't want Joakim Soria, Zack Greinke, Mark Teahen, or David DeJesus? Those are guys who were actually successful on the Royals.
  14. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:40 AM) he's spot on Spot on at getting them wrong... He's not there to do them perfectly, he's there to exaggerate them.
  15. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) Rios is just too much of a risk even if the Jays swallowed half his contract I think. His numbers have declined badly since 2007, and this season he has a .634 OPS away from the Skydome. In fact over his career, his OPS is almost .100 less in away matches than it is at home. Plus he's not very good defensively in CF, so you'd probably have to play him in RF. He's actually been a very good outfielder all-around. His UZR/150 in all 3 outfield positions are all in the +10 range.
  16. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) I'm thinking the only way we get Teahen is if Getz is included in a deal for a starting pitcher first. You only make a deal if CQ isn't completely healthy and productive. Put Teahen out in left field. It works.
  17. I know somebody of the same exact name...scary.
  18. Didn't Pena have one decent year at the plate?
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) If we get money with his contract, we will give up something decent. If we take his contract, we could get him for nothing. Heck we could probably claim him off of waivers soon enough if we really wanted him. As for Teahen, I doubt he will be as cheap as you think. Its hard to find a guy that does as much as he does and still has a decent bat. He's a barely above average player and he doesn't warrant anything great. I'd imagine a package involving John Shelby would definitely sway KC to make the trade.
  20. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) But probably more expensive in terms of what the Sox would have to give up. Probably not... We'll be handcuffed financially if we get Rios and I'm betting the Jays will be asking for a decent return. With Teahen, we can give them 2-3 mediocre prospects and he'd be ours.
  21. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) I just heard about 3 analysts predict the Sox to win the division today.. . Should be a pretty cool 2nd half of the season regardless. As far as the Sox and Rios? No way in hell. If KW takes on a mega contract, it would have to be for a starting pitcher. If we are going to add to the offense, why not go after David Dejesus? KC has put Dejesus and Teahen out on the market. His numbers are alittle down this year but he could be a great asset down the stretch. He would have to split time in the OF with Pods, Dye and CQ but im sure Ozzie could find a way to plug him in there. When Minnesota's second half schedule looks about as easy as the Bulls' second half schedule, I find that hard to believe.

  23. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) How about Mark Teahan? He's a hybrid player, plus there is a thread for him already. Teahen's been much better than Rios this year and he's much cheaper. He's the better option here.

    Obama.

I didn't even hear any boos. I don't think it's a huge issue... Most people will love the guy, some people will absolutely hate him. I've never seen so much hate for a president that is already elected. If you somehow read the comments on YouTube about him and the conspiracies those idiots bring up, you'd think the election is coming up in a month. And BTW, I saw the Costas interview. I think what he did in the rest of the interview really did erase his mispronunciation of Comiksey. I mean, the guy talked about those old Oakland A's teams with Jackson and Fingers. He obviously knows a thing or two about sports. Him making one mistake isn't the end of the world.
  25. How fast is his fastball now? Can he still hit 90?
