QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) Giambi with 2 run jack. A's leading Tigers 4-1 in bottom of 6th. We get within three games tonight. Get it done, Titan. Unfortunately, the Twins are also winning. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) It just seems like such a poor matchup for both the player and for the team. I can't figure it out. Think about this...the Pistons dismantled their conference finals team, traded Billups for cap space, and out of that, they're going to get: maybe Gordon and Villaneueva? That's a terrible return. I think Detroit might be the only team that cleared cap space for 2009 xD. They musta not heard the news about 2010. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) You all are missing the real J Dye. Listen to the baseball commentators and they will tell you also that Dye is a solid defender and has a great throwing arm Look man, we all love JD. But some of us need to realize that he's no longer a gold glove right fielder. Yes, the knee problems took a toll on him and it's very obvious. Unfortunately for him, it has made his defense in right field well below average. He has trouble making plays on pop ups down the lines. He also has trouble getting a line drive hit over his head (not the ones that are unplayble). He only does a couple of things well and that's rob the home run (that's from experience) and taking away some line drives hit just in front of him on some very painful looking dives. He doesn't need much range for those and that's why he still does them well. The announcers and ESPN embrace these plays because they look cool. They just don't show him running in place when trying to reach a pop up between he and Chris Getz.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:43 PM) Actually Jermaine Dye is a very good defensive outfielder Lol no he's not... He's been the worst right fielder in baseball the last 3 years according to Plus/Minus with a -72. He's made 72 below average plays. Only Pat Burrell has been worse in terms of outfielders and he plays left field. And according to UZR he has cost the Sox 7 runs this year in the field.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) Salmons isn't close to a top 10 SG in the league. I'm pretty sure Ben would not worry about him. And guys, if you thought Ben's 15FGA a game were bad(I don't know how you would), wait until you see Salmons realize he is the best shooter on the floor. He took an average of 13 shots per game last year while averaging 38 minutes. He doesn't like to pass the ball, but that didn't make him throw up a bunch of shots either. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) That is a small back-court. Rip COULD play the 3. Then what happens to Prince? Does he play the 4...? He would get his ass kicked. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 12:01 PM) Quentin is not much of a defensive upgrade from Dye. And Beckham and Alexei are still learning their positions, they are both likely to get better as the season goes on. Actually, Dye is one of the worst outfielders in baseball. Quentin is at least mediocre to a bit above average.

We better hit Jeremy Sowers. We have before and we need to do it again. No way in hell should we lose today. -
Said no. And I'm glad nobody voted for the WC option so far.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) No. Yes. Same old Ben, different jersey... no doubt about it. So I'm guessing the Pistons will trade Rip away and have Gordon there at full-time along with Stuckey at the point? -

Why this team COULD NOT and now WILL make playoffs
chw42 replied to YonderLaroche's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This team would have to play like the 07 Rockies to have any chance of getting into the playoffs. We're on the easy part of the schedule right now. It's going to start getting very rough... -

I was just glad that they got this game going again. Don't want to waste a 7 run outburst off of Cliff Lee. -
The Indians sure got a great player in return for DeRosa. The guy only has an arm. Absolutely zero control.
-
Dotel and Thornton got way too carried away in that 9th inning. Nevertheless, Floyd was on the spot tonight and the offense really made Chris Perez pay for f***ing with Alexei and JD. The bad news: We still haven't hit Carl Pavano well enough yet.
-
I want Beckham in there after A.J. in the 7th spot.
-
That bottom of the 9th was not necessary. Good win though. Thank you for trading Chris Perez to the Indians St. Louis!

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) You mean that is what happens when the country that you grew up in forces you to play even though you are injured. Im sure that Yao playing in the Olympics did not help the healing process. If Yao didn't play in the Olympics, he would have disappointed 1.3 billion people in his country and pissed off the government. You don't want to piss off the Chinese government. I don't think he had much of a choice. -
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Rowand has a .799 career OPS, just a couple ticks below Torii Hunter's mark. His OPS+ is also 105 compared to Hunter's 107. Hunter is obviously the better fielder over his career, though. Anyway, I was a Rowand detractor, but a near-.800 OPS from a centerfielder is pretty danged good. Another comparison: Venon Wells .804/107 Outside of a couple of years, Torii Hunter's been a mediocre offensive player who is overrated almost every single year. Same goes for Rowand.

Pavano's 2-0 against us. We're like the only team that hasn't hit him. We're f***ing due.
