  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) You explain the success of Sammy Sosa (1998-2003) and Barry Bonds (2001-2004) and why their walk totals are so high. One theory is that steroids do not improve your eye but rather that the power from your bat does. Their walk totals were high because pitches pitched around them due to their power that could have been gained from use of steroids. Just because they walked a lot doesn't exactly mean they had a good eye. And Sosa was never known to be a great hitter in terms of discipline. Barry was a great hitter before he went on anything. He was a hall of famer before he decided to screw himself over. Sosa isn't the same.
  2. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 09:08 AM) Cardinals may not be done. Yahoo Sports! If the Cardinals can trade Ludwick now, they should do it. He has been pretty bad since coming off DL. And I had Chris Perez and Matt Perez mixed up in my previous post. Ludwick is under control for another two seasons. He'll get his stroke back. He was hitting pretty well before he went on the DL. You don't lose all your baseball skills just because you go on the DL for two weeks. I don't think Holliday would be more than a one year rental for St. Louis so they would be giving up a lot in the deal. If the Cards are playing for this year, alright do it. Ludwick is by no means untouchable, but I just think the Cards need to go after somebody who might be more than a one year rental given their cheap ownership as of late.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) if I were a Cubs fan I would be mad that DeRosa was traded to the Indians in the first place and replaced with the bums that they got(Bradley and Miles). There is no doubt in my mind that DeRosa would be the starting 2B right now and they probably never would have missed a beat when Aramis went down. But blasting him for not reacquiring DeRosa is pretty dumb. His hands are tied now, there is nothing he can do if the money doesnt match up Yeah and Jim Hendry is one of those guys who needs money to make some relevant deals.
  4. This is going to be f'ing hilarious. This about as equal as Aaron Rowand being traded to the Twins for us. Because I think it's very easy to compare DeRosa to Rowand since they're both white, grindy, and the fans of their respective teams still love them even though they're on different teams. If Rowand came back in a Giants uniform, Sox fans would give him a standing O too.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Why? With 2 outs, you have to give yourself a chance to throw out Fields at home. Anyways, still have a huge smile on my face. I love that man. If Bradley had any kind of range or even tried to go after that ball, he might have had a chance at it. It curved back towards him and only landed about 10-15 feet behind him.
  6. Pods almost had a cycle. Crazy. I played this exact game on MLB 09 The Show yesterday and the results are scary. I won the game 8-7. Marshall lost the game. Jenks won the game. Only difference is that JD walked-off the Cubs.
  7. I luv Bacon. He's such a good opposite field hitter.
  8. If he's lackadaisical at SS, he'll probably screw up more in the OF. Move him back to 2B.
  9. The left side of the infield has cost us at least 3 runs in this game. Boy oh boy. And that part of the field is supposed to be our bright future too.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 05:58 PM) Except for Alfonso is still a productive offensive player, despite being an idiot. Not this year.
  11. Alexei really is Alfonso Soriano. He screws up all the routine plays.

    ozzie

Castro's in the lineup cause Jose's pitching. Jose has a easier time communicating with Castro obviously.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) It will be interesting what happens with Milton Bradley. The only way this offense can live up to their potential is if he's a main part of it. For as bad as they've played, they're still in a great position to win the NL Central as long as Cards don't trade for offense and/or Milwaukee for a few pitchers. It sucks that he's not going to be in the lineup tomorrow. I'll miss his bad swings and his strikeouts. Not to mention his boneheaded defense.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:30 PM) I would have been fine with Fields hitting there...and had no problems taking out BA for Wise based on Brian's lackadaisical offensive game. For whatever reason, this team just doesn't have "it," and won't get "it" unless we could somehow manage to reverse time in order to sign Blake, Hudson and trade for Edwin Jackson and Juan Pierre. Funny, with four former or current Dodgers, surely we would be in first place in the ALCD. Maybe even Andruw Jones, if you want to make it five. Andruw's hitting .246 now. He's kicking BA's ass in terms of OPS, but I'd rather have Brian's defense. Hudson would have been a great fit for this team. But I guess Kenny didn't see the need for another 2B when we had two awesome 2B in Nix and Getz. Psych.
  15. Well yeah. It's easy to look back at it now when he's down low in the basement and labeled as injury-prone.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) Well geez, they should have just yanked Contreras after the 6th inning and it wouldn't have been 5-2. Or we should put Jayson Nix in defensively for Paul Konerko, etc., in every late-inning defensive situation. After a loss, it's VERY easy to second guess every single move. We are just an average team and always will be this season...let's just get used to it, as it will make the next 90 games easier to deal with. They should have gotten Jose out of there because I was just glad he got out of the 6th since it seemed he had a back problem and he wasn't finishing his forkballs in that inning. He was lucky he missed outside and high. I honestly think Ozzie should have took him out. He didn't look all that good that inning and I was glad he got out of it by getting Lee to pop it up. Honestly, the Wise thought came up later in my head (after Dye stopped at 3rd), so I don't think I can blame Ozzie. But then again, he's the one who makes the f***ing lineups and I'm just a fan. He's supposed to have a better baseball mind than I am. But yet, I'm pretty sure a lot of managers would have ran for Dye in that situation.
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 02:48 PM) Since the game that ended the White Sox season and provided the fire for the Cubs turnaround, the Sox are 4-2 and the Cubs are 3-4 Make that 4-3 and 4-4 now.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 06:21 PM) But why did it have to be a catcher in that position? You put Wise up there, and they pull Marmol (no way they let him walk in tying run). Then, you can put Nix into the game and you save AJP if needed for their closer. Kinda of like a double switch in that regard. I guess Ozzie was thinking way too far ahead.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) Because if we took Konerko/Thome/Dye out of every single game in the late innings for pinch-runners, we'd have absolutely ZERO chance of scoring in a game like yesterday's in extra innings. Second, normally you would make that move for the winning or go ahead run, but it's not so obvious there. Well would you rather lose or tie and then have a chance to win it in extras? I don't care if there's no JD. We won two games with Wise in right field at Cincy. It's not like it's the end of the world. Plus, if Wise scores, they would most likely pitch to Konerko.
  20. QUOTE (sayitaintso @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Why does AJ always feel the need to swing at the first pitch with bases loaded and 1 out? You would think someone would tell him to take a pitch. Just go take the next 2 games from em boys. I don't know. But why didn't Ozzie pinch run Wise for Dye in the 8th? Wise scores on Thome's ball easily. It took Freel a year to get there and Dye still didn't score.
  21. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) What was the count on Pods there? 2-2. He shouldn't have swung the pitch before. That ball was well outside. I would have loved to see Alexei against Gregg. Alexei can definitely deal a big blow to his 91 MPH straight fastball.
  22. That wasn't even close to being called a strike. And God damn it A.J. I was telling myself that this A.J. and Marshall matchup is really bad and that if A.J. was to succeed, he has to be patient. A.J. likes to swing at everything and DPs are almost his forte against a sinker-balling lefty. What do you know? First pitch, double play. Man this game was more than winnable.
  23. Murph is getting old anyhow. He's probably glad he doesn't have to work everyday.
  24. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) So, Chad Billingsley hadn't given up more than 3 ER in a start all year. Gave up 5. Randy Wells hasn't given up more than 2 ER in a start this year... I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...YOU! WHITE! SOX! Didn't Wells give up 4-5 to the Twins?
  25. He's starting to remind me of Alfonso Soriano in terms of his laziness and brain cramps.
