QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) iPhone fanboys are hilarious. It's a brand new OS and plenty have already developed. The library will grow. You guys get so defensive if anything isn't the great iPhone. The Pre is the s***, and has many features the iPhone doesn't, and all the features it does. Nobody wants to develop for it because HTML 5 is a brand new revision of HTML. It's going to take some time for the Pre to get on the board and I don't think Palm and Sprint have the time for people to adjust and learn about the new code because the iPhone 3GS is basically on board with the Pre in almost every single hardware category. The Pre does have a nice OS, as it allows multi-tasking and such, but there's some problems with the Pre and the network it is on. 1. The iPhone already dominates the cell phone market. They have 51% of the cell phone share in the United States. 2. People really don't like Sprint. 3. Like I said before, the new iPhone 3GS pretty much has everything the Palm Pre has and an App Store with over 50,000 applications to attract customers. It's already like a monster that's gotten too big. People like developing iPhone apps because they are coded in Objective C, something that a lot of people know and anybody can basically program for it. And I wouldn't call 18 applications on the Pre App Store "plenty". If the Pre really wants to build up its App Store, do what Apple did. Charge people $100 bucks for an SDK and let them develop. It might take a while though.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Apparently Linebrink is today's Soxtalk scapegoat, not the guy who actually caused it all -- Chris Getz. Typical Soxtalk is all I'll say. Yes, it's ALL Linebrink's fault -- Getz didn't have anything to do with it...nothing at all. How can you not blame him? Yes, none of those runs were earned. But he gave up two homers to two guys who haven't hit more than 10 since the ASB of 2008.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:03 PM) That 1st error given to Getz was on Ramirez. He pu**ed out of the way of Fontenot sliding into him and at the same time tried to bare-hand the thing. The next error in the 8th was a rocket that short-hopped him- that's a super tough play, if you've ever played at any level. This Reds series will be tough with Cueto, Harang, and Arroyo (in no order), but we should win 2 with how bad the NL is and how we've played on the road. That was supposed to be a double play.

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) Did you watch the game? He made an amazing play to save a run in I forget which inning (4th maybe?). The first error he made should have have been on Alexei. He just let the ball flip on the transition go right past him. The 8th inning error was f***ing terrible though. Two wrongs and one right doesn't make him excused.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) One pitch pitcher, which is a flat fastball. His shoulder injury has made it harder for him to keep the ball above the belt. He hasn't even been close all season with his splitter. It's time to demote him to 7th inning duty and use Thornton as our primary 8th inning guy. I don't know how many times Linebrink has to fail before this move is made. Thornton was the setup man for a long time. Dotel would have been better today. Seriously.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) The touch costs $10 to upgrade (or free if you google around a bit) iphone upgrade is free. I'm talking about the app, not the firmware update.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) He made the best play of the game on a ball up the middle by Fukudome that would have scored a run had it gotten through. We could have survived the Lee homer, it was the Soto one that blatantly said "when/how will the White Sox manage to lose this one?" He also booted two grounders right at him. The second one looked like a bad hop, but you have to get that ball. If that out is made, the bad 8th might have never happened.
-
Ozzie f***ed this game up today. I don't know why he's in love with Linebrink now for some reason. Has he been blind for the past month? Linebrink has been terrible. Those two runs in the 8th did us in. If we didn't score those, Thornton comes in and we probably win this game. Getz was also horrible at second today.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) Amazingly, he went 7 whole innings, only giving up one run. Lost in the 9th on a squeeze. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/CH...200706230.shtml Man, we were bad that year. 29-41...ouch.

QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) Z scares me the most in that line-up. I'd hit him 5th to give Lee some protection. He hit a homer off of Floyd in MLB 09 The Show on a 2-seamer. x(

This was from last season.

QUOTE (StatManDu @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 09:23 AM) http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=84...&topic=8433 The Sox current 4-game winning streak over the Cubs is tied for their longest in the series. The Sox also won four straight in 1999. ... John Danks' 9 strikeouts Wednesday were the msot ever by a Sox pitcher vs. the Cubs. The previous best was 8 set by the likes of Mark Buehrle and Javier Vazquez. Javy probably lost the game he pitched.

QUOTE (Brupin @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) They need to add this to the Palm Pre...ASAP. Too bad the Pre has an OS nobody wants to develop for. xD HTML 5...lol. I don't like the blackout restrictions, at all. Seriously, what's the point then? BTW, did any of you have to pay another $9.99 to update? I already bought the app a while ago and I'm not on 3.0 yet (waiting for jailbreak). I'm on 2.2.1 and It says I have to pay $9.99 to get the new update. What's up with this?

QUOTE (Downtown518 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 09:49 AM) Cubs lineup per the Score.... Soriano - LF Theriot - SS Bradley - RF Lee - 1B Soto - C Fontenot - 3B Fukudome - CF Blanco - 2B Z - P Looks like Lou isn't a man of his words. He only replaced Fukudome with Johnson, which is what he usually does against right handed pitcher anyhow and he put Blanco in there instead of Miles. Big difference.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) Bryce Harper is the Steven Strasburg of hitting. Now that he is in the 2010 draft the Nationals will pick the 2 best prospects ever in back to back drafts. No I'm talking about the Thome guy.
-
Hahaha. Who is this guy?

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) The resurrection of Pods has really been an amazing thing, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. And I just found out today that Podsednik's one of the best defensive left fielders in baseball. No, it's not a joke. His plus/minus as a left fielder was actually the highest among all left fielders from 2005-2007. I was like, no f***ing way. At one point, Pods' Plus/Minus was higher than Rowand's in center field.

Cubs can't hit. Gavin should have a good time tomorrow.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) The first caller to the White Sox post game show is a Cub fan. I thought they didn't care about us?
-
Danks pitched out of trouble and he was absolutely dealing later in the game. I think part of him being so good might have to do with that the Cubs offense can't hit. If Thornton comes in in the 8th, we might be looking at a shutout. Sox offense did execute, but didn't put this game completely out of reach. We should of tagged Dempster for at least 5 runs. Oh well, win is a win.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) You do realize that, by definition, a hitter must have a BABIP over .400 in order to average .400 on the season, right? That his BABIP is high goes without saying. It's like saying "No way his batting average will stay that high--because obviously his batting average is too high." Not really, a player can hit a bunch of homers and that wouldn't factor into BABIP. I think his point was that he has been getting lucky and that it will eventually go down back to his career average, which is probably .350.

Quentin "one bad step" from being lost for season
chw42 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
We're not going anywhere this year. Get him healthy for 2010. -
Doubt it. He'll probably end up hitting .360-.370. As somebody said, his BABIP is way too high.

About time somebody lit up Verlander.

Even if Sosa wasn't on steroids, I really don't think he deserved the hall. Yes, he has 600 some home runs, I understand that. But are we all to the point that we have to count home runs to elect people into the hall to begin with? You might think Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa are comparable in their numbers. You couldn't be more wrong. Hell, you might think that Sosa would be a bit better, if not a similar type hitter to Frank in terms of numbers. You couldn't be more wrong. Sammy Sosa is about as good as Jim Rice in terms of his hitting skills. He hits a lot of bombs, but he's never been a guy to take a walk because he did not have good plate discipline nor a good batter's eye. That's something both McGwire and Thomas possessed and that's why they're considered much better hitters than Sosa. Thomas is actually a better power hitter than Sosa as well, he beat Sosa out in slugging% by about 20 points. McGwire is better than both Thomas and Sosa, but he had no chance of getting in to begin with. Some people were actually leaning on voting Sosa into the hall before this steroid incident. Steroid incident or no steroid incident, I really don't think Sammy's numbers are all that great. His OPS+ is 28 percent lower than Frank's, yet people say Frank isn't a first ballot Hall of Famer. Like that makes any sense.
