  1. No way... He's mediocre at best and he's getting Cy Young Award winner money.
  2. QUOTE (RME JICO @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 03:36 PM) Lets send him down today and find out. I doubt Wise would accept an assignment.
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) If Contreras puts up two more real good starts and we are still 5-7 games back, it is the time to trade him. You might actually be able to get something good for him to if he is dominant. That's what Boers and Bernstein said. It's too bad that our offense is absolute crap. We could have had something this year if this offense didn't blow so much.
  4. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 12:04 PM) or... the pitcher just threw a strike... It does not account for pitches thrown after 3-0. It strictly tracks what he does on a 3-0 count and he's made contact 7 times before he went on and got that hit yesterday. So he has swung on 3-0 at least 7 times before.
  5. If we trade A.J., please let it be to an NL team. After hating his guts for about 3 years when he was with the Twins and then rooting for him these past couple of years, it would break my heart to hate him again. That being said, I think he should be here at least until the end of this season. I don't feel as if Flowers is ready defensively. Plus, A.J. handles the pitching staff pretty well. Something Flowers hasn't gotten the experience with yet. If everything really goes to hell this year, bring Flowers up in August or September and get him some experience.
  6. Pretty much everybody speaks English to begin with, why not? It will also help make illegal immigrants more useful when they start working.
  7. QUOTE (tpezz27 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:50 AM) 81 times in his career he's gone to a 3-0 count and he's walked 76 of the hitters..... Trevor doesn't like to mess around.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 10:34 PM) And the wind blowing in saved your starter about 5 home runs allowed while Twins were missing 3 starters. Didn't the Twins only have 7 road wins before this series?
  9. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) i thought i would be impartial...but i found myself rooting for the twins...part of it has to do with the fact that so many ignorant cub fans b**** about how bad the AL Central is (and don't get me wrong, the ALC isn't good, but I personally feel its comparable to any NL division) ....and I'd love for nothing more than the twins (now 10-20 on the road) to go into Wrigley and sweep them to prove them wrong Yup, that got me too. However, this series was a win-win for any Sox fan. Twins lose, we gain ground. Cubs lose, we get to laugh at them and prove their idiot fans wrong.
  10. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:21 AM) Can we get a source on this? I am having trouble confirming and/or believing this. That's actually the second hit he's ever given up on 3-0. Source The last hit he gave up on 3-0 was back in 1995.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:25 AM) I hit him in the #2 spot a lot on the video game "MLB 09 The Show." Then again, I pretty much never bunt or hit behind runners, and that's not too practical. The best #2 hitter for this lineup just got called up from Charlotte in Beckham, he's just not ready to do those duties yet. But he will be in due time. Beckham likes to go the other way, which would be great for a 2-hitter. He's only that close to becoming the next Derek Jeter.
  12. IMO, you really want a left handed bat in the 2-hole. Make him pull balls and move the runner. Thus, I think we should put A.J. there again. Because it's hard to watch Alexei attempting to hit it to the right side and fail.
  13. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Who? Most likely Cubs fans.
  14. This is definitely interesting... Do people even listen to Mike North anymore?
  15. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) AJ said in the papers today that that's one of the first times he's ever swung at a 3-0 pitch. Totally not true. In his career on 3-0 counts, he's had a total of 8 at bats while getting that count in 93 PAs. So he swung the bat 3-0 at least 7 times before, if not more. Baseball-Reference is awesome.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 08:08 AM) John Danks came through for us last year with the s***-talking, then he backed it up on the mound. And then Octavio Dotel blew it.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 07:53 AM) I can't believe no one posted this yet - maybe I missed it. The Trib did a survey and ran this article, showing that statistically, Cubs and Sox fans are much more similar than different demographically. Thoughts? No quiz on baseball knowledge was given. I would have loved to see those results.
  18. QUOTE (everafan @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) I think I saw that Morneau is hitting second now. That's Mauer you're talking about. Q won't be back for another month.
  19. The only thing that concerns me is the power numbers. If he's really a guy who likes to go to the opposite field, more power to him. Guys like that would make the Sox a lot less frustrating to watch. However, I think Dayan has to develop a slugging% somewhere in the .500s to be a successful offensive 3B. Because he obviously doesn't walk much and his OPS is going to suck if his SLG doesn't make up for his bad OBP.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) Well, Ozzie was the inspiration for "fung is winning and winning is fung" Friday Fung!
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 01:02 PM) Exactly. He'll get his High School GED as quick as he can, and go to a JUCO/CC that will give him tougher competition and more draft hype. Yeah, his Good Enough Degree. I don't care how great of a player you are going to be, but in my eyes, not finishing high school in this day and age and having to get a GED is kind of low.
  22. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) If this is completely Bryce's decision, I got no problem with it. But I highly doubt he wanted to spend his childhood and teen years doing nothing but play and practice baseball and miss out on the two best years of high school. It's because of this stuff that I wouldn't be surprised if Bryce's parents have/had him take HGH or Bryce took HGH to live up to his parents expectations. Also, think about the risks that go into signing him. He is gonna be demanding a lot of money (and from what I've read in stories, it sounds like his dad is gunning for an early retirement), and think how much of a risk it is to give a 17 year old who's never been by himself and never had a childhood several million dollars. Plus, the whole thing with him being by himself finally, he could go the Todd Marinovich route and get addicted to drugs and waste all his money. Also, I've heard some reports of him being a very lazy player on the field and being extremely cocky. From all the attention he's getting, he could feel like he's the best player since Babe Ruth. I just can't picture that... Parents: Son we want you to become a great player. Take some HGH like Barry Bonds and Jason Giambi. Bryce Harper: Alright, whatever you say.
  23. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 14, 2009 -> 01:07 PM) His parents are asses. From everything I have read and how they're taking him out of HS early, I think it's certainly a possibility that they are just using him for their own gain. They really are... They're trying to have him make the big bucks early, but they're possibly rushing him as well. Boras is this kid's adviser. It wouldn't be beyond me if he was the one who made up this plan.
  24. Why can't he just go away from Chicago for good?
  25. By the way Hawk was so excited, you would of thought this was the best win of the year and it might be.
