  1. The Brewers rotation is going to be one of the top in the NL now with Sheets, Sabathia, and Parra as their top 3. Not to mention Suppan and Bush aren't all that bad for #4 and #5.
  2. I already voted twice for JD and Carlos Lee. If MLB.com wasn't so slow, I would of done more. It kept on messing up the verification images.
  3. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) yea Navarro's on the team, and that's the thing. AJ's probably not going to get an at-bat if he's on the team. So, if there's some Papelbon pitch that is routinely in the dirt in a certain situation, maybe Varitek knows that, can block it, and contribute to a save. It's a little thing, but it's probably bigger for our wants and needs regarding the World Series home field. The thing is, the All-Star game isnt all about who's deserving or not. Like it or not, it's now about getting a best fit for winning the game. If AJ isnt going to bat, get someone in there who will contribute. Devil's advocacy sure is fun! I remembered that back in 06, when Ozzie took Buehrle, people who weren't Sox fans were complaining like crazy because Mark was struggling towards the end of the first half and didn't "deserve" it. I think this is similar, more of a manager's favor kind of thing.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) well, navarro is going too. I just noticed after looking at the rosters...oops. Still, taking Varitek = blasphemy.
  5. JD deserves to be there big time. If Crede's somehow there, so should Jermaine.
  6. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) the only argument that can be made is that Francona knows he'll want Varitek catching Papelbon to end the game in a win. even though i dont know if i agree with that logic, i will say that winning the All-Star game has more real importance to me than AJ making it. I care about A.J. making it, yes. But, the fact that a .220 hitter going to an ASG is inexcusable. At least take Dioner Navarro. TBH, I think Navarro's been a better player than A.J. But Varitek is absolutely ridiculous.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 01:26 PM) duscherer is going Well, at least it wasn't as bad as I thought.
  8. What do you know? No A's pitcher or White Sox pitcher are in the game, those are the two teams who have the best team ERA. Somebody needs to explain themselves here. At least Duchscherer or Floyd should go. You don't lead your league in ERA for nothing.
  9. Terry Francona is a joke. I think he has a lot to do with Varitek going. Jason Varitek: .219 7 HR 27 RBI .301 OBP .661 OPS A.J. Pierzynski: .299 7 HR 32 RBI .338 OBP .784 OPS Dioner Navarro: .318 4 HR 33 RBI .370 OBP .805 OPS You tell me who really deserves to go...
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 01:59 PM) A loss like this just magnifies how much our bad luck loss Thursday killed the whole series. When you hit the ball as hard as we did in comparison to Oakland on Thursday, you should win the game. However we didn't, then we were just dominated last night, and now we have to win a couple this weekend just to split. Bad luck blows. Had Swisher hit his ball a couple of feet higher, Sox would of won that game 4-3. Had Crede gotten more under the ball he hit deep into center, it might of been a blowout.
  11. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 12:02 PM) You've made some pretty damn good posts since you've joined Soxtalk. Unfortunately, this one is crap. Michael Barrett represents all that is wrong with the world. I suppose watching other people in agony and enjoying it is plain wrong, but come on...it's Michael Barrett.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 5, 2008 -> 10:04 AM) With Floyd and Danks pitching Sat and Sun I like our chances. Sundays game is on WGN so I'll be there I have learned to never bank on Gavin anymore. He hasn't had a great start since that 3rd game against Minnesota a couple of weeks ago. Plus, Cy Smith is pitching today. Gavin better be on his game and he better be on it fast.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) She must appreciate how much the team blows tonight. :lolhitting
  14. Masset certainly sucked. Put this one in the loss column.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) Had a soccer player one time collide heads with another player. It was his forehead and when I went to palpate it, it moved like when you push on a ballon. It was one of the more creepy injuries, I've felt. The guy ended up getting a metal screen implanted in his forehead because the bone shattered into too many pieces. He also walked a little crooked after the injury. (just kidding about the last part) Wow...
  16. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) Did he start a fight with the ball after he came to? He was laying there in pain, oh that was good to see.
  17. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 4, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) You must be quite the porn aficionado to spot her in a crowd shot in the stands. Exposed!
  18. Can this be one of those games where we just don't hit period?
  19. We hit the crap out of the ball in the 4th inning, only to come up empty handed. Luck wasn't on our side today. A good thing that came out of this game: Javier Vazquez. He made one bad pitch to Cust. The pitch Murphy hit out was almost head high, it wasn't that bad. He also saved the bullpen, which is a good thing. Let's hope Mark gives us a good start tomorrow. Maybe there's a good reason why Joe Blanton is 4-11...
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) While Jenks is out, I'd really prefer to see Thornton as the closer. Dotel I don't trust late in pressure situations and Linebrink should stay as the set up man (and I'm not saying that because of last night). Dotel's the only one with closing experience. I think Ozzie needs to do closer by committee a little bit. He should just look at some matchups and go with whoever he thinks matches up well. If it's a bunch of lefties, then Thornton. If it's a bunch of righties, send out Dotel. Keep Linebrink at setup, I like him to stay there.
  21. QUOTE (juddling @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) Michael Barret Maybe it's payback for the fight he started with AJ...maybe it's just one of those things. Looks like it caught him in the forehead not in the nose so he should be ok I think payback came a bit late there...but it's all worth it.
  22. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:51 PM) That's great news. Thanks. That's not great news for this next series. Bobby might not be available against Oakland. I'm sure we'll be looking at a lot of close games, so not having our closer is a huge disadvantage. I think we should use Dotel in closing situations now or even Matt Thornton. Linebrink has little luck in the 9th.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 10:46 PM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...1,7145594.story D.J. sucks at what he does, I'd much rather have Stone, even if it means bringing back Chris Singleton into the radio booth xD. Of course, we can have Robin Ventura join Farmio too.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:01 PM) If it's too bad, we can always go out and make a push for Fuentes. I'd actually like Dotel in that role better.
  25. Did I just watch a game from 05? My only worry: where was Bobby? I saw some stuff about his lack of velocity. Is he hurt? Cause Linebrink is not ninth inning material.
