  1. QUOTE (KevinM @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:49 AM) Why would you want someone whose success is totally dependent upon luck? Because the Twins have 4 division titles by doing that. Give us a couple of lucky players and combine it with our power and talent and you have a WS team.
  2. QUOTE (KevinM @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:42 AM) We also had a historically good pitching staff and the most unbelievable bullpen of the last twenty years. But, if you want to give the lion's share of the credit to a mediocre offense, be my guest. This bullpen is just as good if not better. Take away 4-5 games this year and the bullpen is nearly flawless. I'm sure our bullpen lost us games in 05. Look at game #3 of 2005 against Cleveland.
  3. QUOTE (KevinM @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:39 AM) Ok. He goes the other way. That doesn't explain the inconsistencies in his MiLB statistics compared to his MLB statistics. He's still a singles hitter whose success is dependent upon hitting it through holes that won't always be open. It's too bad, I wish we had a singles hitter who can hit balls through the holes and drive in some big runs.
  4. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) In 05, we had a mediocre offense that hit lots of home runs. We won because of outstanding starting pitching. The manufacturing runs part in 05 is a myth. In the world series we hit a lot of home runs to score runs. It's not a myth, it happened. The reason we led in every one of our first 37 games was because of Scott Podsednik. He would get on, steal a base and get knocked in. Sure, we depended on the home run more than anything. But we could produce runs when we needed to. We won opening day 1-0, we won the last game of the WS 1-0. Doesn't that tell you something? When we didn't hit the long ball, we scratched out runs. That offense was a lot more consistent too.
  5. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) Amazing minor league development we have here. How does a guy like Ryan Sweeney go from not being able to adjust to inside pitching here, to poof a guy hitting .299 in another organization. I wonder what changes another team will make to Anderson when he gets run out of here. The talent is there, we just don't see that talent at the major league level. It's all Kenny's fault. Really, our offensive philosophy is nothing but the long ball. It might be about time that Kenny noticed that. We won in 05 less dependent on the long ball and look what happened? One year later, we go back to hitting homers and lose out on the playoffs. We need to manufacture more runs in order to beat good teams!
  6. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 08:51 AM) Oh don't even use that to try and make a point. There was absolutely no run support for him that year. And when he did get support he was 9-4, but his ERA was 5. He was bad either way. Our whole entire staff sucked in the second half of '06. That's pretty much it.
  7. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 05:41 PM) Make a play for Reggie Willits... Hawk - "Reggie is a good looking young ball player. I'll tell ya what Fiesty, if we get this kid, Greg Walker will turn him into Mr. October." D.J. - "Reggie Jackson?" Hawk - "Ya datgum right Reggie Jackson. They're both Reggies right?". Hawk - "I'll tell you again Fiesty, if I were still GM, I would of traded Ozzie Guillen and John Danks for that kid already. I have so much confidence in Walk that I know Willits will be the most clutch hitter to ever graze this field." 30 seconds of silence.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) Because you touch yourself at night. How do you know?
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 07:46 AM) No, not really. I mean, he hasn't exactly proved he thrives on the stage, but he hasn't s*** his pants on the stage, at least for us. Since Javy was here, he was bad for 1 half, the first half of 06. Lets be frank, most of the games in the first half aren't really on big stages. However, in the 2nd half of 06, when there was a whole lot more pressure on us and we were going for that playoff spot, Javy was our only pitcher worth a damn, and Javy was dealing against teams like Boston. He was bad either way. He had a ERA half a run better than the first half after the all-star break. But he was 2-8! Javy has shown to screw up when pitching in big games. He's no Freddy Garcia. Besides, Boston sucked that year. They were worse than us. Although, Javier was good against the Cubs last year. No record in 14 innings pitched with a 3.86 ERA and a .079 WHIP. Pretty good.
  10. Let's not lose our 9th straight on the road... Before game 2 of the TB series a couple of weeks back, we were one of MLB's best road teams at 17-14. Now, we're 17-22.
  11. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 11:03 PM) I remember exactly that HR. I had arguements with people who said "The umps gave the Sox the WS". I tried point out that the 2 plays that went our way did not directly score runs, but the insuing plays did. That HR DIRECTLY led to runs. The ball was below that line by a foot, and ruled a HR. No media brought that one to light either. It was Jason Lane actually.
  12. We had a 6.5 game lead 2 weeks ago. It's down to 2.5 now with Detroit and Cleveland right on our tail. The division is starting to gather up, never a good thing to see. Which is a main reason we need to win this game. 1.5 game leads are scary.
  13. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) 7-1 Twins in the 8th today Why are the Diamondbacks failing us??? WHY?
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) Theres no park in the majors that plays like Wrigley. When the wind goes out to left, these guys know what pitches can be hit out. Seriously, was there a fly ball that didn't leave the yard today? It seemed like that for both teams.
  15. Minnesota won again. We're 2.5 up, maybe this is a must-win...
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) No stories from today's game? Cmon give 'em up. It had to be torture for Sox fans in the 9 run inning. I hate being around Cubs fans period. I've avoided them all by not really going out of the house during these past two days.
  17. Javy needs to pitch a great game tomorrow. Like 7 innings 1 ER 8 Ks kind of good. Our bullpen got taxed today. We need to get a good, long start tomorrow. Not many teams have hit Dempster well, maybe this is will be the start of his demise.
  18. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 02:44 PM) Chan Ho Park, back in baseball and sporting a sub-3 era, has currently gone 3 innings against Cleveland and struck out 6, giving up only two hits and one walk, one of the hits a home run to CC Sabathia. Can you fathom how improbable that sentence is? The Cleveland offense is so bad, the pitcher has to support himself. ROFL.
  19. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 06:02 PM) Jerry Owens might not be a bad idea. By the way, anyone know the status on him? Is he still hurt? I'm actually confused why they brought in Dewayne Wise when Konerko went to the DL if they could have brought up Owens. Could the Sox live with him as the every day CF in the 9 spot? Maybe move Swisher over to 1B and platoon Konerko and Thome at DH (damn, that's an expensive platoon... and at DH, haha) and guarantee that Thome isn't back next year? I'm just trying to think outside the box here. Knowing Ozzie, he will put a healthy Owens in the leadoff role. Explanation: "The keed is fast".
  20. Are you afraid your Cubs buddies are gonna scream crap in your ears for a whole week? Are you going to stop listening to sports radio because they will be constantly praising the Cubs? There's a lot at stake on a personal bases if the Sox lose the game tomorrow. But also, think of these... 1. It's on ESPN, it's nationally televised. The Sox's reputation to the nation is on the line. 2. If the Twins continue to bull doze the D'Backs, we might only be 1.5 games up going out west. 3. A loss tomorrow will either mean our offense stunk it up, our bullpen faltered, or Javier Vazquez didn't have it. The first one is not surprising, but the latter could have me worried about our rotation. 4. Detroit is creeping up on us. This next game is pretty important, I don't know if it's a must-win. But for our personal sake and our personal safety, let's pretend it is.
  21. Anderson's a fourth OFer and the best one we have. Why are some you so mad at him? He plays great defense and hits .230, is that bad for a 4th OFer? Would you rather have Rob Mackowiak misjudge balls in Center all day? Would Jerry Owens be any better? Think of your other options here. Now, if we got Kenny Lofton, Anderson's the first one to go (Uribe's proven himself worthy lately). But as of now, with all the assets in the organization, Anderson deserves to be on this team.
  22. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 05:43 PM) Well, this season is over. Clearly. Yes, because losing a series to the Cubs at Wrigley means an end to it all.
  23. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 04:25 PM) Then get it done. He had a good run early in the season and is now back to being the BP pitcher he was all of last year. I'd like to deal him for sure. He had a bad day throwing the fork ball and when that happens, he's bad. Let's not forget that it's Wrigley Field and the wind was blowing out. Even Dewayne Wise hit a homer.
  24. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) Good to see Russell back Ramirez off the plate. I wanna see Russel hit him. Instill some fear into them, make them stop leaning over the plate.
  25. The Cubs have plenty to worry about. Like Carlos Marmol and Carlos Zambrano. They might of won this battle, but they can still lose the war.
