2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
chw42 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's not too far off the extension Lynn got. If Lynn's option gets picked up, it's only like $7 million less than this. -
For real. All these teams are spending boatloads of money on FAs because they don't want to make trades. Then one of the biggest guys on the trade market gets moved for a package of meh. The most valuable guy in the deal, Contreras, then gets flipped for a guy whose best tool is speed without much of a power profile. Please make it make sense.
-
Seriously, how did Cleveland not beat this deal? It's not like Atlanta has a good system.
-
I'm pretty sure the Braves wanted to trade Contreras to Oakland. But Oakland didn't want him and wanted Ruiz instead so they basically flipped him to Milwaukee with Payamps. I'm not sure what the A's see in Ruiz to make them trade a guy like Contreras for him.

Toronto seems to have signed 2 of the best value contracts these last 2 off-seasons. Gausman and Bassitt seem like they're on very reasonable deals. -
Yeah what the f*** is this s%*#? There has to be more to this right? How badly are teams overvaluing Ruiz when it's basically a 1 for 1 for Contreras.
-
Holy robbery Batman The Brewers made out like bandits. They basically got Contreras for Ruiz. Even Baseball Trade Values wouldn't validate this trade...
-
That return for the A's is not good so far. If that's it, then they got swindled.
-
At least it wasn't Cleveland

Manaea wasn't even in the starting rotation for the Padres in the playoffs. His stuff decreased a lot as the season went on. Similar to what happened with Clevinger. The difference was that Clevinger was coming off TJS and Manaea wasn't. Him wearing down as the season goes on has kind of been a theme with him. -
With those numbers and his defense Kepler is easily a 3 WAR player. And that's if he doesn't get his power back.

Does that take them out of Brantley and Conforto? -

Seems like the Sox and Blue Jays are after the same players. -
I was surprised at how bad his numbers were last year. I saw he had decent numbers when they played the Sox. He must have really struggled in September.
-
McCarthy reminds me a little bit of Adam Eaton
-
The AAV seems pretty fair but I don't think a lot of people saw a 30 year old Nimmo getting 8 years given his injury history.
-
I need Cohen to offend JR enough that he pulls another Albert Belle signing.
-
Cohen is singlehandedly inflating the FA market lmao

I went over Gallo's line drives/grounders last year that had a xBA of .500 or more that ended up being outs . I found 5 outs that probably will be hits with the exaggerated shift being banned. That would improve his .160/.280/.357 slash line from last year to .174/.293/.371. The shift alone isn't gonna save Gallo. I also found out that Max Kepler would have had an extra 11 hits without the exaggerated shift. That would have improved his line from .227/.318/.348 to .255/.344/.376.

Pulisic's crosses and set pieces were god awful this tournament.

I think LA takes that deal, especially if they don't end up with Correa. -

With these contracts, Boston got an absolute bargain in Story last year. Even when he didn't play that well. -

he's really no different than Victor Reyes at this point. Although he might be better defensively. -

I guess we're gonna have to get used to Elvis Andrus at SS next year won't we? -
White Sox interested in Athletics Catcher Sean Murphy

Seby had a .404 BABIP last year and his expected numbers were 40 points lower than his actual numbers. I think he'd be fine as a part time catcher, but I wouldn't expect him to hit as well as he did last year. He also had the benefit of getting a few easy hits off position players last year.
