Pedro Grifol named White Sox manager; Katz asked to return per Rosey
chw42 replied to Harry Chappas's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I got offered that in Chicago about 10 years ago as someone fresh out of college. I'd imagine the pay is way better now. I was more or less referring working on the west coast (Bay Area/Seattle) where starting salaries out there are easily 100k+. Chicago is cheaper, but 65k is still low even when you factor in cost of living. -

Moncada and Grandal were the biggest problems last year. They put together maybe 1 WAR last year when the projections expected 7-8 out of them. That's a 7 win difference alone right there. -

That is painfully low unless they're asking for entry level people. Even then, that's like half of what people can make out of college these days in the software industry. -

Not a bad guy to have around for a first time manager. He lost the clubhouse in Toronto, but he won't have to worry about that as bench coach. -

Kenny's been harping on the lack of minority hires in baseball. Bob including that last part makes me think this was also KW's choice. Not Hahn's alone. -

All the leaks about the Sox hiring former players or retreads worked. I am relieved it wasn't them even though this Griftol hire would have been very meh to me had you told me this would have been the result of the managerial search a month ago. -

Katz is the only guy who deserves to keep his job. McEwing sucks. Menechino sucks even more. -

As long as he is on board with analytics, I'm on board, cause I don't think we've had a manager that has ever embraced analytics. Hopefully he can navigate the toxic clubhouse politics we seem to have on the team. Maybe him being Latino can help win over all the Cubans on the team. I would have liked Espada, who has been on winning teams, but thank god it wasn't Ozzie, Jim Thome, or Chris Getz. -
Moncada would get destroyed by the media in NYC. If we think Sox fans criticize Yoan for being lazy or looking disinterested, wait till Yankees fans get to watch him all year.

I'm in software engineering and actually have some experience with what they listed in the requirements. But everything I've read about the industry says they don't pay enough for how much they work you. Personally, I'd probably love to work on this stuff since I'm into analytics, but I'm not sure how much I'll like it when it's my livelihood and I'm forced to work weekends.

There really is no better feeling in sports than your team winning in the postseason when you didn't expect them to. I'm glad I got to experience it in 05 and it seems like there's always one team doing that every postseason. This Phillies team, last year's Braves, 2019 Nationals, etc.

Are we sure Cueto's success can be attributed to Katz? Seems like he just finally got healthy this year.

Who is going to give Manaea a long term deal after his stuff degraded later in the season?
-
I can already say that about Rick Hahn before he signs any of them. Remember when we were linked to both through trade? This is just making it easier for Hahn to sign them.
-
I don't think the Phillies are all that good but they sure are fun.
-
Brad Hand really sucks
-
Clevinger might not get an out
-
Maybe he'll cost less to sign next year at this rate lol
-
Is there a reason why the Phillies didn't go with Syndergaard for this game?
-
Looks like you can't believe anyone regarding who the Sox are hiring. I guess we'll have to wait until the big name reporters or the Sox themselves announce it.

Yup. I just want someone who has been getting prep'd in a successful organization like Houston. He's obviously qualified with how long he's paid his dues as bench coach. Along with the interviews he's gotten as manager before. Hopefully Dusty hasn't rubbed off on him too much, but I'm sure he's analytics friendly and won't pull the s%*# Tony would. Him being a first time manager also means the FO and analytics department will have more influence on lineup and in-game decisions. No more Leury batting 3rd. I would also be ok with Matt Quataro since he also fits a lot of the stuff I mentioned above.

Rodriguez is legit, but he also has some questionable sources (aka Hector Gomez).
