QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 28, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) So you are going back to the line of thinking that he is the same pitcher that was a starter in the Angels organization over 4 years ago? (FYI his last healthy season in the minors as a starter has him going 7-2 with a 2.17 ERA) He has already taken his foot off the gas and actually has added several pitches that work well with the batters making contact. This is pretty evident in his k/9 dropping consistenly over the last few seasons 11.44-10.34-7.75-5.20 He arguably has the best stuff on our staff today. Closers are fairly easy to find these days and we may have one in waiting in Aaron Poreda. And the KROD argument doesnt make any sense at all, not really sure why you put it in there. Why is it that nobody can think outside of the box on this site anymore? Closers are easy to find huh? Hahahaha, ask the cards, mets, tigers, clevland, etc. You don't take an elite closer and gamble him in the rotation. You keep him as a lights out closer and worry about the other 8 innings. Dumpster made the transistion because it was a no lose situation. He was a s***ty closer, and if he was a s***ty starter, what do you lose?

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:26 PM) what happens if its a 3-way tie? Say the White Sox and Twins finish with 92 wins for a division tie. And the Red Sox finish with 92 wins for a 3-way tie for the wild card. How does that work? All 3 teams play simultaneously in the first ever 27 man baseball game.

QUOTE (SpringfieldFan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) You know, if there needs to be an award for "guy that makes the difference and gets his team a ring", that's fine and dandy. However, and I don't care what they call it, but I also want to see an award for the player who's simply the flat out best in the league that year. Is that too much to ask? SFF Then that would be called "The Best Player Award". Most valuable implies that he had the most impact on his team's success.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 01:20 PM) sent an email, probably won't get a response but I had to give it a shot. just asked if we'll see more leadoff at-bats for Alexei this year 4-5 yesterday ;o Its a fine line....do you want a guy who bats .300 leading off, but swings at the first pitch ~99.9% of the time, or just a guy with decent OBP who sees alot of pitches.

QUOTE (oralsoxpodcast @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Nice article. CQ is a GOD, and like I said before...I'd blow him. That being said...anyone else think that he'd be a drag to hang out with? Find and tape the episode of "The Show" that follows him. He seems like cool guy.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 20, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) 16th time this year we scored ten runs or more. We are 15-1 in those games. Thats actually a very sad stat. There is no way in hell you should lose a game where you scored 10+

where do you buy Quentin Tshirt jerseys?
jenksycat replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in Pale Hose Talk
got a white one for $20 off ebay. Dick's has the 'normal' black ones for $18 -
You can say they might blow some games down the stretch, but in reality we wouldn't even be in a race without them all being godly in the first half of the season. You'd obviously want them to be stellar all year round, but I'd rather be in first place in August with a shaky bullpen than 8 games back with a solid one.

QUOTE (RME JICO @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) It is a great day when you can get a win while using Broadway, Ramirez, Carrasco, and Russell as your pitchers. Haha yeah. Not one of those guys was on the team opening day and none are our "big name" pitchers. Nice

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) At least we can all agree Lance deserves handshakes after that win. Nice job. Can somebody copy and paste all the posts during the 4 homer stretch? That would be cool to read in one area. You don't need to copy the posts in the first inning when some were already giving up. Do those "some" include you? -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Not to bag on Thome, but he talks about wanting to win a WS before he's done. You got to come through in situations he failed in on his last at bat if he truly wants a WS. He needed to drive in those 2 runs and didn't. Dye and CQ can't do it all. well....he got those 2 runs in. haha -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 02:22 PM) Dye has blown it many a time in those same situations. In fact, statistically speaking, virtually all players will a majority of the time. It happens. That is all I was saying. To freak out over one bad AB is a bit stupid, and in the grand scheme of things, Thome not getting those runs in is not going to cost us a WS. -

Gordon "Slayer" Beckham Signs for 2.6 Million

QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) he's gonna get two worthless weeks at Kanny...CWS ended june 25....so he coulda gotten all of july and all of august...so 2 months...if he started at Kanny he conceivably could have been to W-S and maybe even Bham at the end of this year with BHam likely a start next year....now he prolly will start in A ball next year...its not a huge deal, but it woulda been nice for the kid to play....we are a bit short on prospects, and i for one would have been happier if he was playin ball rather than sitting at home for the past 8 weeks I can gurantee he hasn't been sitting on his couch eating ice cream since the CWS ended. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 04:35 PM) bout time ....kid lost alot of development time Like a month or so? This isn't the NFL where not signing basically benches you for your rookie year. -
QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) Given that Uribe is making $4.5 million this year and is more than defensively competent at three infield positions, there's about a snowball's chance in hell that he'll take a massive paycut. If I were Kenny, I'd probably offer him a $10 million over two years. Assuming that Alexei moves to SS, Getz would be our only ML-ready in-house option at 2B and we'd be relying on signing a FA to play 3B. It might be worth over-paying for Juan (like Kenny did earlier this year) as an insurance policy. I can't see paying a utility bench player 10 mil "just in case". We have a butt load of SS/2B type guys, and even though Uribe is godly right now, I'd rather put that money somewhere else

Anyone know where to get lineups for the game tonight? I'm going and hoping that my Swisher shirt will not be riding the bench -
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 04:02 PM) That's what pisses me off when posters slurp other teams young players/farm system. Danks is INCREDIBLY underrated on this board. I was at work thinking about it last night. If Danks was on a division rival, could you imagine the posts about him?(some of which would probably come from you ) Imagine Danks on the BoCrox or Yankdeez. The coverage Joba the hutt got would have been 10x more for Danks.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) Who said he was horrible...Garland along with Vazquez are mediocre pitchers. I would never put those 2 together. Garland had back to back 18 win seasons and pitched complete games in the post season. Vaz seems to s*** his pants in even remotely big games and tops out at 16 wins (I know wins don't mean that much, but back to back 18 is no fluke). As for this topic: -I had all the faith in the world for Danks, not so much for Floyd, and none in Count. -Was unsure on our bullpen, and in disbelief that macdougal made the ML roster -Psyched to see Swisher on our team, and still can't wait for him to be the everyday 1B'man.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) Twins are in great position to win 7 or 8 of their next 9 games. Kinda like how they destroyed the worst team in baseball up in Seatle. The Twins are unstopable.
