  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) Again - neither of you is disagreeing with me. My whole point is that the reactions to every negative post tend to be just as worthless sometimes. Hell I could start a thread saying "this team really needs to tighten up its bad defense lately" (which is absolutely true) and I would bet next month's paycheck someone would say something like "quit whining, this team is in first place" I wouldn't argue with that as it is a valid (and important) argument. But things like what this thread was about are pointless. Complaints that we should cut/trade/dfa people after a bad game are pointless (and make up far too many threads).
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) Oh. Well in that case I agree. But if we can't talk about negatives as well as positives, what's the point of coming to a message board? But there's a difference between arguing pos/negs and holding every single AB/loss/pitch under a microscope. IMO, complaining about anything that we are obviously not going to do well in (SB, GIDP, etc) is pointless.
  3. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 07:18 PM) I don't get what your argument is supposed to be here. What are you telling me? It looks like you're trying to give me more counterpoints but they're not going against anything I said. I was pointing out the stupidity of having a heart attack over ever flaw and loss
  4. are these actual....runs....while danks is pitching? Did the offense forget who was pitching?
  5. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 26, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) If that's what was being said in response, then fine. But it isn't. See post #2 and post #9 in this thread for some typical responses (I'm not meaning to call out the posters, so I'm not quoting them). "We won." or "We're in first place, why are you finding things to complain about?" or some variation thereof. That's a really, really weak response to somebody pointing out a potential flaw. If someone brings up a legit reason that the flaw is a non-issue, they should say so instead of just going with the lazy responses. By the way, "hypersensitive" was aimed at the posters who jump all over a player for striking out twice in a game or giving up a run in a relief appearance. So if we started posting after every win that "This team will win the world series 100%" there wouldn't be any argument then right? The legit response is that despite hitting into 10000000 dp's, we're still in first place and are tops in other offensive categories. Honestly, did anyone expect this team to NOT hit into a million dp's? Is this somehow surprising? I have no problem with complaining, but the b****ing about things that should have been obvious before the season even started and b****ing that this.team.is.dead after every damn loss is getting stupid. I feel most people are complaining due to fear of not winning this division. That way, if we do manage to blow it, you can say "see I knew all along this team blew ass." Enjoy your team being in first place for the majority of the season or just stop watching since it appears to be too stressful for most people.
  6. So if Fields goes 0-4 with for K's, will this board implode on itself?
  7. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 01:00 PM) Eh, this is true, I just highly doubt that Kenny is going to trade a key kog from our major league team even for someone like Halladay. if it were possible to bring a cy young candidate here for floyd + fields 2 others, KW would do it in a second.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 10:36 AM) DaBearSox, this isnt directed just at you, yours is just the last the last I read, but this attitude some of you have about Hamilton and the "he did drugs omg hate hate hate" blah blah blah whatever is annoying. I'd be willing to bet a vast majority of people on this board who are over 18 have at least tried some drug at some point in their life one time. Do you really think Hamilton went out to get himself addicted? Do you believe thats what he was trying to do? Do you think he said to himself the first time he tried something "Yes, i cant wait to begin the downward spiral and ruin my life"? No, he didnt. Of course I am not advocating what he did, but it is very commendable the way he has been able to pick his life up and get his act together. Many people are not able to do that. It is admirable the way he has come back and gotten over his addiction. What he is doing now hopefully prevents some kids from making similar mistakes in the future. That being said and off my chest, to respond to the actual point o fthe thread, CQ has a good shot, but his lack of exposure will hurt him. Plus, if JD stays hot and get those RBI numbers up, teammates sometimes can have a negative affect on each other (splitting votes). And, you can never count out ARod when it comes to these types of things. The problem with that logic is you freely choose to do drugs, and unless you're mentally handicapped, you know that drugs are bad. If you choose to shoot up heroin or smoke crack: you're an idiot and I will not feel sorry for you. If you choose to blow millions of dollars and almost blow a shot to get super rich play a game: you're an even bigger idiot. Good for him, he somehow found the strength to overcome addiction and start making millions hitting homeruns, what an amazing story! Now all the crackheads in the world can realize all they need to do is get clean and get a tryout at spring training. The only credit i will give him is he is not telling his sob story to every media outlet available.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) I agree with all the above (I recall a rant from a poster I won't name about how Dye is done earlier in the year). But I see nothing wrong with talking about how awful our defense has been lately, the bullpen's recent collapses, the team consistently getting owned by soft-tossing lefties, etc. Whenever somebody does that there are 2-3 snarky "we're in first place, kwitcherbichin" posts. Its more about looking back on this season. Even if we don't make the playoffs, I would rather enjoy being in first place for months rather than b****ing about every single thing wrong with the team. How people can complain about this team after what happend last year is beyond me.
  10. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 03:13 PM) yep - no point in discussing anything as long as they won today mods, plz shut the whole board down k thx Yep, I don't know what i would do if there wasn't something to b**** about a first place team coming off a monster win.
  11. QUOTE (VAfan @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 03:59 PM) I see little hope of us staying ahead of the Twins in the second half. Anyone noticed that our pitching sucks? 5, 9, and 8 runs at home to the Royals? How many games in a row is it giving up 5+ runs now? The Twins' pitching has righted itself, and they have Liriano sitting in AAA ready to go. Plus, the Twins offense is perfect for their park, and we have 7 more games there, with none against them here. Then there is our own hot and cold offense. We just aren't consistent enough. I think we have to hope for Boston and the Rays to keep losing so the wild card is an option. So the twins are going to keep playing .700+ baseball for the rest of the season? And Liriano, the same 0-3 11+ERA Liriano, is going to come up and be an ace instantly? Danks gave up 7 runs in his second start of the season, he's sucked pretty hard since then right? The twins lost 1-0 today, by the logic most people show here, their season is over, the team is dead. For everyone who declares the season/team/franchise over after every loss: stop watching games now and really any sports in general, whats the point?
  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 11:11 AM) Here's my biggest problem with the "Maybe Coop will help him" line of thinking. Chicago 54 40 .574 - Minnesota 53 42 .558 1.5 Last year, we were a disgrace and we were out of it early. It didn't hurt us to give starts to guys like Danks and Floyd who were going to struggle for a while before hopefully figuring things out. Ditto even guys like Broadway. Or, if you go back to when we got Jose, we were out of it pretty quick in the 2nd half of 04 after Frank and Ordonez went down, so there was an opportunity there as well to give starts to Jose without costing us a season. Are we willing to finish behind the Twins this year so that we might be able to develop someone like Cabrera for next year? So you trust the contrerass is going to have a magic turn around and not give up 8 runs per game? I'd say even if the confidence levels were = between Count and DC for the 2nd half, I'll still take DC since he's not 50 years old and isn't missing a few screws.
  13. QUOTE (DBAH0 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) There's no doubt that Longoria should have been in automatically, and Dye should have gotten the nomination. But at least we've got 2 guys in there I guess. I would have gladly removed Crede if they gave us Dye, and at least 1 pitcher from the best staff in baseball. Although they do owe Crede a couple ASG appearances and some GG's that went to Chavez The MLB should be embarrassed that Marmol is in that game, i don't care how many votes he got, he hasn't thrown a strike in a month.
  14. So you want them to spend their money wisely, while at the same time go after soon to be vastly overpaid guys like Tex or Dunn? Doesn't make much sense. Considering how some other teams in our 'league' spend, i'd say the sox are fine: Tigers (Cabrera, Dontrell, Shef) Yankees (almost entire roster) etc. -Swish, a guy comparable to and higher priced/younger Hunter and Rowand, for pennies. -Q - pennies, many years of service -Alexi - dirt cheap, 4 years -2 top 3 starters in Danks and Floyd for nothing -Guys waiting in the wings like Fields, Owens (a trade chip), Getz, Beckam. Based on that, I'd say we have much more "deals" than overpaid guys.
  15. yeah I saw El Los giving them the stink-eye. I was waiting for them to say something about it.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:56 PM) let this thread be exhibit number 1 as to why its important to invest in the draft and to have a fruitful minor league system....the cubs and brewers were able to make themselves better very easily, while we are gonna have a very difficult time getting anything of any type of substance done you realize how we got Swisher, Javy, Q, etc. correct? edit* damn, beat me to it.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) Instead of just posting negatively about everyones' posts, why don't you post what you think they'd want? well its pretty safe to assume that not a team on the planet will take Contrerass or PK. The sox aren't gonna move OC which they are renting for this season anyway. The only way this gets done is gutting whats left of the farm system.
  18. we should worry about him like we did for : Swisher, Buerhle, Thome, OC, etc etc. Standard route: come up with who we should trade/replace him with, consider cutting him, and just standard complaining.
  19. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) So all that love and knob slobbering of PK yesterday....he sure looks great today eh? I can't stand Contreras anymore...too bad we have nothing to offer for a top notch starter. yeah a line shot that would have scored 2 if not for the shading of the CF is the worst thing he could have done.
  20. In other retarded news, Marmol replaced Wood on the NL all star team. hahahah terrible
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) What plays are these? Every 3rd baseman makes diving stops during the season. His defense has been pathetic this season, end of story. Fine, he is the worst 3b in the league i suppose. Until someone shows me a list of how many runs he has saved vs. cost, its all BS. There's no stat for "saving runs" and if you honestly can't remember any plays he has made that very few 3b make, then you can't really argue anything.
