  1. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 12:32 AM) For anyone else who's still confused by flavum's Elimination Number shindig... 2.5 GB of the Giants for the 1st 2 GB of Detroit for the 2nd pick 2 GB of the Phillies for the 3rd pick Thank you...check this thread daily and still cannot understand the other ranking
  2. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) The solution to the Thursday Night Football issue is to add another week to the season and give each team two bye weeks. Therefore, the NFL could set it up so each team has a bye before their TNF game. This would also get rid of the Super Bowl bye week, which everyone hates. No chance they give up a week of endless hype & marketing
  3. THERE WE GO. Starting to take this tank seriously. Sign Holland back for 10mil and have him pitch complete games for the rest of the season.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) Look at the moneyball A's. That was the entire team and part of the downfall in the playoffs. But....they got on base!
  5. 2020 Sox are going to have a log jam at 1B/DH if we keep drafting guys who can't play any defense
  6. This sucks Need about 9 guys to go on the DL asap
  7. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Sep 25, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) If you get caught 20 times and you steal 200, are you still hurting the team? Can you link to the number of guys who have stolen 200 at 90% success?
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 24, 2017 -> 10:24 PM) Very soon. Loved the win and the defense, online, and backfield, but man Glennon is bad. Not that we didn't know that, but I hope Trubisky is ready cause his time is extremely near. I wouldn't be shocked if we went to him this week even (Glennon was that bad). But alas, this is less about Glennon at this point and more about when they are ready to turn to Trubisky. Too bad the Packers came back. He got 14 million dollars. Still blows my mind. I don't think he would have had an offer over 5 million from any other team.
  9. QUOTE (hi8is @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) I wouldn't say "complete" so fast there and it would mean that only 1 of the 3 didn't pan out... unless I'm misunderstanding you. ( I never misunderstand anyone ) To clarify - I'm hopeful that those 3 are the outfield, but realistic me is saying none of stick in CF and we get 2 legit corners out of them. Needing to pay big bucks for a corner OF means only 1 of them panned out
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 06:08 PM) If we're going to spend that money and it winds up being on a corner OF there will be equal or comparable options at the appropriate time. I'll stand by that one. If we have to spend money on a corner OF in a couple years then the rebuild was a complete failure as it means 2 of Eloy/Roberts/Rutherford failed. Avi has 2 arb years left for relatively cheap. You have to keep him till the deadline next year, if he maintains this you might get a real return vs. what you would get his off season when it's still risking that this wasn't just a random good year in a sea of s***ty ones.
  11. Gonna be fun reading 8 months of people b****ing the sox didn't make a "Lester" move this offseason despite: A) There not being a single FA available worth a s*** other than the Royals trio who we're not signing for multiple reasons B) The incredibly high level of stupidity it would be to blow our payroll wad before knowing what the new core vs. holes are before a massive FA class after 2018
  12. Picking 5th will guarantee picks 1-4 are future stars. Hate this win
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 22, 2017 -> 11:24 AM) These moves make sense from the statements by hostetler that the Sox FO has increased the budget to expand the scouting and minor league aspect of the organization. The fact that this needed to be done is crazy to me. For the cost of 1 s***ty reliever you could pay for an entire scouting team.
  14. Do the Sox get sneaky creative and shut anyone else down? Potentially the 5th pick in whats likely the only true tanking season absolutely sucks.
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 11:00 PM) At this point, I'd be happy if the Tigers go 3-6 and the Sox go 4-6. That would get the 3rd pick. But deep down, you know the Sox are dropping to 4th. If that happens the Tigers should get some sort of trophy for that accomplishment in tanking so quickly.
  16. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 02:48 PM) The good thing with Turang is he's probably major league ready by the time Anderson's contract is up. If we draft someone in 2018 that isn't ready till 2024 that would suck.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) Exactly. It's good business for the team. The decisions the politicians make for the taxpayers is a whole different issue. Yeah you can't blame the teams at all for robbing cities with these stadium deals. It's 100% on the s***ty governments that allow it to happen.
  18. QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Sep 21, 2017 -> 10:45 AM) I still really love Seth Beer. He fits exactly what we've been drafting recently too. Powerful bats with great walk/K's ratios but lack defensively. Despite is shortcomings I wouldn't think he is for sure a non-option anywhere for us from any pick we have Still need these guys to play somewhere in the field eventually, we may end up with 5 DH/1b by the time we're contending.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 20, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/2074499...home-run-hitter Fun article. This year is so weird. I think Matt has a lot to be proud of himself for after the career he has had, but for him to be a big leaguer past this season he has to get his walk totals up to what they were in the minors. He's a better looking Adam Dunn who hits less homers and gets hurt more.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) He was called up when the bullpen was in shambles. I still believe it was #3 of Rick Hahn's desperation moves - James Shields (and a freebie in Miguel Gonzalez) to save his competitive rotation, Tim Anderson to save his competitive infield, and we need bullpen help and we're a competitive team so why not? They might have had the other part cross their minds, but Rick Hahn spent a full month making desperation moves and we're still wishing we had 1 of them back. The one time I use Greg-logic is here. I think those were all JR/KW "WE MUST GO FOR IT NOW" moves then they finally let Rick rebuild this past off season when it all fell apart yet again.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) I'm still always surprised by Moncada's speed. Speed is something where sometimes its kind of like a tier, where you are either fast, or acceptable, or paul konerko. And then some players just hit you with how much faster than "fast" you can be. When Yoan rounds third sometimes I think it's going to be like a cartoon, where he's running so fast the ground is going to start rolling up like a carpet behind him. If they could get TA to walk some more....TA/Yoan 1 & 2 on the basepaths would be awesome.
  22. I'd still need to see the first half of 2018 repeat this performance + health before doing anything - trade or sign.
  23. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 15, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) Goes to show you how fickle this all is. There are Sox fans on Twitter who berate other fans for wanting guys like Beer instead of Kelenic or Turang, which is also pretty foolish IMO- what if Beer has a huge 2018 for Clemson and raises his stock again? So much can change between now and draft day. I don't think it was a "WE NEED BEER" campaign. It was more "we want the #1 pick and as of 1.5 years before the draft it looks like Beer is the #1 pick and has a funny name" campaign.
  24. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Sep 14, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) It would really suck to fall back to 4 or even 5, there often is a big drop off in quality after the top3 picks and the bonus money also gets worse. Really 4 or 10 isn't that big of a difference, the biggest gaps in talent you find at the top. Doesn't mean you cant find a star at 4 but generally the expectation shifts from star to average regular when you go back to the mid part of the top10. ....what?
