  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 12:07 AM) Yes. I wanted them to buy free agents the way they did in the past. They've never given the 7 year mega mega deal but they have acquired some free agents. For instance, Dye signed a two year deal. I forget what Rios signed, but I didn't like him. Dye worked out; guys like him. I mean I still don't care about Jerry's money, but even I don't like the 7 year deals. David Robertson signed a 4 year deal with the Sox. There are nuff of those kind of signings that I wanted to keep us competitive rather than a total rebuild. Dunn signed a four-year deal; that would have been good but he had that one historially bad season before he got his act together. Now if we could sign Hosmer for 4 years, he's young enough. But I don't want 7-8 years. But do you see what I am saying? I see no need for Jerry baby to have a 50 million dollar payroll next year, even if he did sign Robert. Yep I see what you're saying: "I don't understand how any of this stuff works"
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 09:46 PM) I just read the awesome future sox report and Rutherford has been struggling. Avi and Abreu need to be part of our next WS team, folks. You can't win with all new guys. Why can't everybody see that? Why would you want to trade Avi when you've got that potential outfield of Eloy, Robert and Avi with either Rutherford at DH or one of the other Sox outfielders we have in the minors. I like what I've seen out of Liriano. Right now I guess you could (reluctantly) trade Avi this offseason and give Liriano 580 at bats and see what you've got there. If Liriano blows, Rutherford will be ready the following year. I hate to see Avi go, though, as I'd like he and Abreu to be the leaders of our WS teams. It's scary that Cleveland's future looks bright for a long time to come. At least Detroit and the Royals will be sucking. Twins figure to be pretty good but probably won't have the $$ to fill in the gaps. GO SOX! lol
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Sep 3, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) Games like today are good rebuilding wins. Much better than last night's win. Yeah these are the only games I want on the W side. I don't want Shields to win a game 8-7.
  4. Gonna be hard to stack these L's if Rodon/Gio & potentially ReyLo pitching well.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) They're trying to calm down his motion. To me, he looks like a guy thinking too much. Just let him go out there and do his thing. Yep, let him work with Coop for a month. Next year it sinks in that he's probably not a SP & the pressure is off and to just go out there and mow 3 guys down at a time.
  6. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) The problem is that he is the same pitcher. He really has not progressed as a starter aside from learning the cutter. He still struggles to throw strikes but the repertoire is still there. If the Sox can get Fulmer to throw strikes with his fastball and cutter as a reliever, his knuckle curve will be absolutely devastating with two strikes. There's alot of potential in Fulmer as a reliever. I'm gonna keep saying it until it becomes reality: Fulmer/Burdi will be the lockdown setup & closer for the 2019 playoff run
  7. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 01:37 PM) That's the thing. By all accounts, his stuff just isn't what it used to be. He isn't the same pitcher any more. Did his arm fall off? Did he have TJ? He's not a 40 year old, you don't "lose" 1st round stuff as a 23 year old with no injuries.
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Well he is certainly not alone in his opinion, Fulmer hasn't show very much to date so if your choice is bust or not the odds favor him being right and that is all some people want to be . Like you I always hope for the best and never like to say someone is a bust after a short period of time to develop especially being yo-yo ed up and down without any reason to do that to him. You absolutely cannot call a guy drafted in the first round 2 years ago a bust unless his arm physically fell off. Hell, look at the RF'er on this team right now or the relievers we traded to see guys who looked like crap for years before seemingly putting it together They took a gamble that he could remain a starter but now seems destined to the bullpen. Let him get his feet wet more there with Coop to finish out this meaningless year then he can spend the off season re-focusing on that. I think he settles in as a reliever where he can let his goofy mechanics fly at max effort knowing he only has to get 3 guys out.
  9. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) The dude is a lost cause. They are just bringing him up to bomb and get the #1 pick. You and Greg should have a cage match
  10. QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 11:56 AM) Fulmer? The sox are propelling the tank at ludicrous speed. Fulmer is straight up awful. I have absolutely no hope in him. His stuff is so mediocre and he has no control. Cutting a top 10 pick 2 years into his career is not a move. Get him up to work with Coop daily out of the pen and prep to make him a reliever. Kind of a no brainer
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 10:07 AM) I'd sign some players who we think we can spin at the deadline. We don't have enough arms in the minors ready to sit in bullpen roles. Not to mention, I just don't think it is good for a team's morale to go into the season with hot garbage everywhere. You want to close out the games you are leading (even if there aren't a lot of them) and you can spin those players for assets. Find a vet closer on a 1yr deal or take a flyer on a few guys. Every spot on the roster not taken up by someone with a future in the org should be filled with a scrap heap/reclamation project pickup that we try to flip at the deadline.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 10:02 AM) The Bulls don't own their own 2018 or 2019 2nd round pick. They are eating Pondexter's contract in order to obtain New Orleans' 2018 2nd rounder. This is a good deal. It's ironic though that they traded their 2017 2nd for $3 million and now are eating $3 million plus on Pondexter's deal to acquire a 2nd round pick. The original post said "Bulls trade 2nd rounder to acquire Pondexter" which sounded absurd. If they didn't give up anything then it's fine. Still stupid as s*** to trade the 2nd rounder to GSW like they did.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:02 PM) You wait. Kopech and Gio will not be in the bigs til September next year. Sox will not rush guys in a wasted season. I know I've been up and down on Lopez. I'm not THAT high on him yet. Do you guys think he's a lock to be a No. 2, 3 stud or are u like me and not convinced? I do worship Rodon. I'm convinced he'll be a stud, health permitting. I know he's a free agent, but I figure he's one of those guys you could just sign for pennies w/out much competition. He has to be happy with Coop and nobody's offering him much dough this offseason. I feel like he could be a moderately acceptable starter if we're trying to win. He's certainly LIGHT YEARS better than Shields or the two guys who are not as good as Fathom: Holland and Pelfrey. I figure MiGo is the kinda guy who after the season ended woulda agreed to a cheap contract and stay on the south side with Coop. Gio is already in the big leagues. As is Lopez. Rodon appears to have turned a corner. But yes, because we lost an average starter it's full blown tankathon. DAMN YOU JERRRRY I really gotta stop getting sucked into your logic blackhole. Within the same hour you will post that the Sox have 7 guaranteed superstars in their farm system, that they will lose 125 games because they don't have a closer, the rotation will be horrific because Shields is the 5th starter, and Gonzo is an incredible talent who will save the Sox from tanking but also will have no suitors in the free agent market.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:54 PM) I wish we could develop hitters like Coop does pitchers. Cause this is another intriguing guy, Forbes. 6-3, 180? Wow. A tall third baseman. ... A second round pick who has done nothing so far in the minors. Only 21. Obviously has talent. But will he ever sniff the majors? I know I've ripped MiGo in the past but he actually had some good starts. Do u think this moves means we truly are tanking again next year? We've pretty much dealt every MLB pitcher who possibly could get anybody out this year. Nobody's taken Holland or Pelfrey so far cause they are off the charts lousy. Me thinks our staff is gonna be putrid next year cause cooler heads will prevail and Sox won't rush the prospects. Yeah Rodon/Gio/Lopez and Kopech a couple months in is gonna be a garbage rotation
  15. Weird, can't be for more than a bag of balls at this point to a team barely hanging on the wild card race that traded a top starter earlier in the year. At least this helps prevent slipping out of the top 3 pick
  16. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 08:19 PM) I wonder about the confidence levels of young players, especially pitchers at the big league level who throw quality starts, just to have the bullpen blow it. I imagine they couldn't possibly care at all. They're aware the team will struggle.
  17. Not sure if any Sox players are in the closet. 2018 will be a rough bullpen. 2019 Fulmer/Burdi 8/9 lockdown time
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:37 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/08/31/rep...-from-pelicans/ [ So they went from what would have been a high 2nd round pick to a mid-range 2nd round pick + a useless player? Sweet moves Garpax
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) I don't think my opinion is any more valid than yours. It could go either way. That being said, given that he's a bat, and more time is needed for them typically, I think it'll take a bit longer. Jimenez will start next year in Birmingham with 20ish games of experience. If comes out hot, he can be in AAA by the end of May. I'd imagine if he hits in Charlotte from the go then he can move right on up. A.) Sox aren't going to compete next year in all likelihood. B.) Jimenez would have to jump two levels in ~3 months to get to get to the MLB as is. C.) If they're going to suck and have a bad history of rushing players, why not let him beat up the minors for a little bit longer than fans would like if it saves some $$ later on when you need it. Whats the super 2 deadline? I would think that's the only reason he'd stay down if guys like Kopech and Collins are coming up.
  20. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) Machado will be 26 when he hits FA. A 10 year deal would pay for his age 26-35 seasons. That's unlikely to be a crippling deal. Harper is an even better candidate, but the numbers on him are going to be insane. I want the Sox to try huge front loaded deal + opt out so you get a guy like Machado (no chance at Harper) for 3-4 years of his prime then let him walk for some other dumb team to sign him at 29-30
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 02:14 PM) When i had shin splints from 18-22 years old, it certainly wasnt because of bulk. The arch of my foot caused it, I had to wear inserts to support the arch when I played ball. And yea, that s*** hurt bad Exact same issue for me. Finding the inserts that fixed it was life changing.
  22. For Collins, maybe they want to see if he can stick at catcher with the actual future rotation since by the time he comes up it would be Rodon/Kopech/Lopez/Gio? If he flops then back to AAA to solidify the bat & a future at 1b?
  23. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:54 AM) Why do you assume there is no plan yet? Greg lives on a week by week basis with the team. So right now, a bad bullpen = 100+ losses guaranteed because you see that all the time in the MLB.
  24. Kopech would be up at some point in 2018 regardless so as long as the extra year is secured then it's fine. Hoping Collins can stick at catcher and turn into a Flowers type defender.
