  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) I don't believe this is correct. Sale has over 6 years of service time as of right now, so if I understand this, 6 years = Free Agent. He came up in 2010 at the end of the year, and was on the big league team for 2011-2017, so 6+ full seasons of service time. He's still under team control for 2 years with options now, so if I'm counting this right the White Sox bought out 2 years of FA for him, not 1. Please someone tell me if I've done the math wrong. Ah yeah maybe. I used the link below and the way they phrased it seems like it was only 1 FA year...they did not count the 2 team option years as anything. In that case, yes he did leave a good chunk of money on the table. But I'd still argue 57m earned and a FA at 29 is still a good deal to make. He probably left about 40m on the table during for the length of that deal ultimately. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/42407922/whi...year-extension/
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) It takes two to tango and Kopech doesn't seem like a guy who is lacking in confidence in himself. Those guys tend to not be the ones worried about early money. They are looking to hit the powerball. In the Sale extension - which I'd assume is the prime example of this - all he really gave up was 2 arb years & 1 "cheap" FA year (13.5m when he could have been FA making 20+) and in return guaranteed himself 30+ million as a 24 year old vs. risking it he could have probably made ~20m more. To me those deals still seem like no brainers to for both sides.
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) I don't expect the 2018 White Sox to contend but I don't think they will be a 100 loss team either. If people want to use the pen as a crutch for the basis of their argument that the Sox will lose 100-120 games that fine but I'll go ahead and see what Hahn comes up with over the winter before making hilarious loss projections. Back to Kopech. Hoping he starts the '18 season in Charlotte. If he picks up from where left off this year, he won't be down their long. If anything, Kopech's walk rate is perfect reason to send him down to Charlotte towards the end of ST. Not a single person outside of Greg thinks 2018 Sox will be a 120 loss team because that is absurd. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 04:08 PM) Sale was in the big leagues wen he signed his extension. Unless you're talking about when he got his draft bonus? Yeah draft signing is what I meant. I know there's b****ing from the PA when guys are kept down in the minors just for extra control (Kris Bryant example) but wasn't sure if you could actually say "if you sign this contract you will be in the majors on April 1st 2018"
  4. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) Hahn is going to sign him to 9 year $60M contract this offseason and he will be in the 2018 opening day rotation and hit free agency at 29 years old. I would use green but I am not certain if I am joking. Is it 'legal' to use promotion to The Show as a negotiating factor? I think that was how we got Sale to sign so quickly
  5. 0 reason to rush him up if he has a good couple weeks in spring.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) 670 The Score‏Verified account @670TheScore 35m35 minutes ago Nick Hostetler says #WhiteSox fans shouldn't be concerned about whether they get No. 1, 3, 5, etc pick: "It's a deep 2018 draft." I'd prefer #2 please, thanks.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) Seems like Elliott is going to lose his appeal today. NFL really does suck. They mess up the Ray Rice and Greg Hardy stuff and those guys get off when they should have gotten punishments with far more severity (nevermind Rice's blackballing). They punish one of the most exciting players in Josh Gordon enough to ruin his career over pot. They punish Blackmon so much he ends his own career. Then Elliott, who seems like a pretty s***ty guy himself, gets screwed over because the NFL wants to restore their image. Why can't he get an independent arbitrator? What a joke. NFL has terrible football operations, a terrible union, an ugly image, and it is still by far, the best sport to watch. Just amazing that it could be so much better. And nothing will change while they're still printing money. NFLPA needs to have a real strike so badly.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 04:41 PM) I Have My Druthers‏ @chisox2727 3h3 hours ago FUN WITH SAMPLE SIZES OF LESS THAN 145 PA: Moncada: .192/.317.342 Rizzo: .126/.268/.235 Trout: .208/.273/.369 Donaldson: .169/.191/.279 All busts
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 02:08 PM) No, but this team is trash and Moncada didn't exactly force his way into the bigs. Make the young man earn it when all he is doing in the majors is blowing service time. And now here is blowing service time on the DL... I would have left him in AAA until next May. It is what it is. I totally understand the reasoning behind getting him to Chicago when they did. I just didn't love the decision. Service time is irrelevant unless we were planning on keeping him in the minors until mid-late 2018 which would be stupid.
  10. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 01:58 PM) Just another example of why calling him up this year was dumb. Do they play on a foam-pit field in the minors?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 01:26 PM) So yeah, the 10 day DL people are being serious about that right? And it's a "Bone contusion"? Is that going to fit under the realm of shin splints? Or did he get HBP there or something and make it worse? Leftover from the collision with Willy?
  12. They treated my shin splints in college by removing my ACL. Pretty standard protocol.
  13. QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 09:45 AM) I guess maybe we just disagree on what a build around guy is. To me it's the Abreu's, Rizzos of the world. A guy you can count on to consistently come to the plate and perform. Moncada has a real chance to figure it out and be a world beater, just nothing over the past 3 years makes me think it'll happen to extent we are hoping. If you have a core of: Top guys: Abreu 1B/DH Jimenez LF Arenado 3B Abv. Average: Moncada 2B Collins (in regards to others at Catcher -- offense, power, calling game) C Average: Rutherford CF Robert RF Avi DH/LF/RF Play a role on team: Anderson UTIL (SS, 3B, 2B, CF) L. Garcia UTIL (Same) Delmonico DH, 1B, 3B, etc. Basabe All OF defensively Burger - DH/1B Backup catcher Add in our strength of the team - Kopech, Rodon, Hansen, Dunning, Giolito -- bullpen of Cease, Lopez, Fulmer, Burdi, etc. etc. Plus a couple more draft picks? I think the point we are missing as a fan base sometimes is not all your prospects HAVE to hit the expectations we put on them. If just 1 or 2 turn into all stars we are the Astros or Cubs. If we somehow sign a guy - Arenado, Machado, or really solid FA we are in an even better spot (longshot) Right now, these are the tiers I am putting our prospects in. Obviously Robert and Moncada both have the talent according the scouts to be world beaters.. I slot them where they are out my own opinion currently. Also in this situation I'd love to sign or develop or trade for a defensive wizard at SS who can bat .240 and put the ball in play. I'd take up the middle defense over most anything on a future team. If that's how the rebuild turns out & they need to spend 200m on a free agent to complete a 3 person core, we're screwed.
  14. Cavs are old and have 0 payroll flexibility for the next 2 years (because of GM Lebron's moves). Lakers are young and have a mountain of money to spend...and are in LA not Cleveland. Warriors have the next 2 years on lock down assuming health & Durant keeps opting in. Year 3 gets dicey with Klay wanting to get paid potentially. I think the true elite guys are going to try and copy the Warriors and the Lakers are truly best built for that (money + location + young guys already on the team)
  15. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Well aware of that. As I said Russ is loyal to OKC, I don't think it's too likely he leaves, especially since LA is set at PG. I think it's more likely Cleveland S&T LBJ to OKC for Adams and 1st (PG and Russ re-signing of course) than him going to LA. I don't see that happening at all. Those 3 could just as easily go to LA and not be stuck in OKC + add Lonzo/Ingram/Randle.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) Rutherford though there's obviously questions if he can stay in center. And agreed on people who say give Nicky all the reps in left field for now. He hasn't played there a ton and who the hell knows maybe he becomes capable out there. Worth a shot at this moment. He seems to be athletic enough, couldn't be worse than Dayan or Avi out there at times.
  17. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) George's tone has changed since the trade. He's mentioned he's willing to stay in OKC if they are competitive next year. Russ is loyal to OKC, so we will see if he could convince him to stay. Even if PG goes to LA, would a core of him, Lonzo, Ingram, Clarkson, and Randle be definitively better in 2018 and 19 than Love, IT, Crowder, Porter Jr (or another top prospect), and Zizic? I think not. Not to mention now they have to play in the same conference as Warriors, Spurs, and Rockets. Westbrook has a player option after this year, he can leave too if he wants. From Cali, went to UCLA. (insert hmmm emoji)
  18. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 02:33 PM) I see the parallel and I don't mean to nitpick but that's unfair to Bonds. Bonds never technically got caught and everybody really was doing it (which is arguable for the first pop with Jones but not the latter). Bonds was a callous guy who the media brought the worst out of. Jones is a horrible guy who the media loved to cover and all he did was cheat, deceive, lie, hurt others, put people in danger and be as incredibly reckless an athlete could be to their career potential without actually killing themselves or getting themselves killed. He said "I don't do any drugs" in reference to recreational drugs because he elaborated the guy have cialis and pain killers. He's a liar. He probably forgets what he's actually done and what he tries to misrepresent or what/how he has mischaracterized in the past. His last sentence was shortened because he tested positive for a banned substance that wasn't steroid. It was a hormone blocker that guys use when they get off steroids. He also missed a drug test when USADA surprised him at his training camp. He took pictures on instagram and had his car in the lot when they showed up. He hid under the octagon at Jackson and even pissed on the floor there because USADA waited for hours for him to show up because they had good reason to believe he was there. Chael Sonnen and others have told the story. https://www.bloodyelbow.com/2017/8/22/16187...iel-cormier-mma - Great article describing Jones' drug test failure. The article explains how this time he can't make the tainted supplement claim because this steroid is totally outlawed. Most guys fail due to masking agents or actually tainted supplements. It's more common to get caught getting off steroids than being on steroids. When you get caught cycling off, like Jones did the last time, you can say tainted supplements because there are plenty of items that have hormone blockers, hormone peptides, and other stuff over my head. For instance, Chad Mendes failed for his egzcema cream. I imagine Jones had that excuse with the dick pill ready in the case he ever got caught. I am sure his "pharmacist" had it figured out. Then he gets popped for inadequate disclosure instead of steroids, gets a lesser sentence and can preserve his competitive image. Of course his personal image was already shattered. Now his competitive image is shattered too. He doesn't deny drug use - just pills/pain killer stuff and admits to partying/blacking out leading up to fights. He's still a complete idiot and your 2nd theory makes sense, but I could still buy it last time around at least.
  19. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 12:41 PM) A valid question that will never be answered. He's forever tainted. To me, he was best P4P talent and I think his resume is probably P4P best ever too. I watched him make some of his quotes from the last time he got popped and saw some of his tweets pertaining to his alleged steroid use and the guy just looks like more of an asshat than possible. He's such a terrible liar too. If I were him I'd be legitimately paranoid because it has to be so hard to keep up with all of the lies and inconsistencies that come out of his mouth. For those who don't know, he said he failed his last drug test because of a generic sex pill. The same substance in the sex pill would be indicative of use of a cycling agent to get off steroids. He's talking to Rogan and says, "I was with a guy and he told me he had some pills and I said, 'I don't do drugs' (this is after he was popped for cocaine) and the guy explained it was just generic cialis and it's a lot of fun." Within five minutes they start talking about gas station dick pills and Jones says he's been using them for a while. Unbelievable this guy. What a waste of talent. I give him the benefit of the doubt last time around as wasn't his sentence shortened because it was true? I also don't think he meant "I don't do drugs" as in he doesn't take steroids/pills, not "I don't do ANY drugs". All that felt legit to me. This time though? C'mon. He should have been so overly careful, chicken breast and flintstone vitamins. Even if it was a legit accident nobody is going to ever believe him and his MMA career is over. Stupid.
  20. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 12:15 PM) I think that would have happened by now. I have no problem with keeping him for the rebuild. Yep that was my point, he's worth more to the Sox as a leader/mentor during the rebuild vs. the return in a trade for a solid but aging DH. Perfectly fine keeping him around.
  21. Complete jackass. Unreal Brock vs. Bones gonna have to be a gd Hell in a Cell or some s*** in WWE now.
  22. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 10:42 PM) Because we did not know those 3 guys were going to be good and 90% of the league didn't pick them to win ROY. Just as we do not know Markelle Fultz is the most NBA ready rookie this year. What? That's not the story. And how many years of Lebron's career will it take off for Lonzo/Ingram to be real difference makers on a championship team? I purposely did not mention Ingram because he looked BAD last year, and he's also a bad fit on the floor at the same time as Lebron. Lonzo/Ingram aren't the primary reason to go to LA. Its the 60-80m they'd have to spend on him (who will take a team friendly deal) + whoever else he wants.
  23. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 10:38 PM) How did we not get more for Butler #GarPax
  24. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 10:31 PM) Lonzo, Ingram (pretty big one to skip) and Randle are in the league already. That's a big difference. He's also likely not going alone. It's obviously a concern for the Cavs, otherwise Kyrie wouldn't have been so anxious to get out of there. Lakers have 41m committed for 2018. Find a way to dump Deng and they have 22m. Ball/Ingram/Randle + Potential free agents: Lebron George Boogie Westbrook
  25. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 10:09 PM) I like how you speak with a absolute certainty about the future. What are you doing on a forum then? IT does not in fact have to sign a team friendly deal, Cavs can afford him on any deal by moving Thompson or JR. But it was more of a suggestion since he gets to stay with a contender. And if you think Lebron is "100%" going to LA you're wrong. League is already onto them for tampering with George and possibly Lebron. And who exactly is on that LA super team? Lonzo and Lavar? Not to mention leaving East for West is just dumb. Yep cause superstars have never in the history of the NBA left for LA and aging injury prone non-superstars like IT always take team friendly deals vs. the absolute max offer out from any team. Lebron has a couple years left of elite-ness and isn't going to waste it on the dysfunctional mess that he's left Cleveland. If Lebron was staying in Cleveland he would have signed more than a 1 year deal with them to show everyone else "hey I'm staying - lets do this". Instead he signed 1 year deals so that he can leave at any time he wants and go to a situation like LA with a ton of money to spend and a promising young PG.
