  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 10:29 PM) I'm really surprised people don't understand my point about this. You have to consider this team's record in grading the rebuild. All seasons are equal. You have to take the bad with the good. Let's say half the prospects make it and the Sox never creep about .500 in this rebuild. In that case you have to balance that with the miserable seasons to see if it was worth it. Look ... all seasons count the same. This one is horrific to watch. Next season will be the same. The rebuild will remain a failure. If and when the team gets good with the prospects, the grade starts to improve. If the team makes the playoffs it improves more. If it makes the WS the rebuild becomes a 9. What is so controversial about what I am saying here? They said to rate the rebuild as it stands now. Well, as of now I'm sickened by this baseball team trotting Holland, Shields and Pelfrey out there. So the rebuild is a 2. Can it become an 8, 9 even a 10 at some point? Sure. All this really says is you don't understand the concept of a rebuild. You're not competing for a title 6 months into a rebuild. You're not going to be above .500 6 months into a rebuild. The first true piece of this rebuild just played his 2nd game for the MLB club and most of the others won't get a shot till mid 2018 at the earliest. The only way to completely judge this rebuild is after the majority of the 15+ guys acquired since the team picked + draft picks from a couple bad years a direction pan out, which won't be until at least 2019. All we're able to judge right now is the deals that were made, which look great on paper which is all you can really ask for at this stage. I should have grabbed the post but someone else said something similar along the lines of "I know we're rebuilding...but how are we going to win games & compete right now?" which is just a baffling lack of understanding for what is going on for the next couple years.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 04:42 PM) Why would the White Sox not offer the highest $? Because they're not the Yankees
  3. QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) Hansen Melky Abreu Avi Davidson Moncada (2B) Anderson Navarez Sanchez (DH) yesssssss. Bet marketing wishes they didn't call him on what I assume will already be a decent turnout for GoT night.
  4. Any official lineup announcement yet?
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:48 AM) What does that have to do with it? Q was a 6 year minor league free agent. Mark Buehrle was a 38th round draft pick. Kahnle averages 15 k per 9 innings in the major leagues this year. Rutherford has been ho hum in A ball. Yet Kahnle is sure to have a bad month and be worthless, while if Rutherford has a good month or 2, he's untouchable. I just hope some posters here are prepared when some of these guys (and not necessarily Rutherford) bust. It will happen, yet being ranked #1 on the farm seems to mean as much to some as winning the WS. Who cares what you are ranked. What matters is what these guys become. The Sox staff is on the clock. It's not that "#1 farm system is the same as a WS" it's that this team finally seems to have a direction after over a decade of mostly garbage. They failed for years to build around one of the best 1-2 SP's in the league and instead turned it into the best farm system in baseball with a ton of financial flexibility. There's not really any better outcome to hope for.
  6. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:27 AM) No shot for Harper. Yeah no chance. Won't match best offers and no player wants to come to the Sox for any reason other than cash. My hope is (obviously assuming we actually have a good young team) we get creative with Machado and do a massive short term deal
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:42 PM) Anyone pumped up about Goldberg coming back? No? Ok. Only if he spears someone
  8. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) Have you seem his splits? I mean, NO ONE can look @ those mediocre numbers (relative to his talent level), and say that he's ready without beig full of b.s. Also, when you don't have a $250MM payroll, you MUST get player development right. You simply can't rush it, because you can't out spend any developmental mistakes. Yeah, you get player development right....and then they leave in free agency or you have to give them 30% of your team's payroll. You get player development right AND sign these deals.
  9. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:34 PM) nothing unless you wanted to really piss the kid off and keep him down until next july. anybody thinking about control at this point is being myopic. they already avoided super 2; the kid is ready to play everyday under pro conditions with pro coaches. He isn't going to learn much more in AAA . Oh then it's fine, he was coming up this year at some point. If now or September are the same thing control wise then why not, even if it is a marketing move.
  10. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:29 PM) Ok, so what was the rush? I surely hope I'm wrong, but this feels stupidly premature. Par for the course for the org that just HAD TO give an extension to Anderson before he earned it as well. I hate this habit of "giving" contracts, promotions, etc... to players and members of this org before they earn it. Those are the EXACT type of moves you have to do to compete nowadays if you can't have a 250m payroll. Lock a young guy up who shows promise for pennies and you hit the lotto, if he busts it's not a franchise crippling deal.
  11. Whats this mean for service time & how long would he have had to stay down for another year of control?
  12. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:11 PM) Hahn said he would be in uniform tomorrow.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:09 PM) I appreciate it when you come back with data backing your claims instead of "psshhh yeah right bro, HIGH FIVE" At least I made an effort, eh? Data for what? He's been good for 36 innings. You are saying he is Miller/Jenks and upset he helped net us a top 30 prospect. I am not. If we held on to him and he repeated it for the rest of this year + 3 months next year? Sure, I'm all in. There's also a risk that he's a flash in the pan and we dump Frazier/Robo for scraps and get nothing for him next year. I'll trust Hahn's judgment for now.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:05 PM) There was no need to move him RIGHT NOW. If they love Rutherford and it was the only way to acquire him?
  15. Any chance he makes the lineup tomorrow?
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:53 PM) Nobody is up in arms. Seriously, the only people freaking out about the deal are the ones telling the people who don't love it that they're wrong. Not at all. Just the people putting unrealistic valuations on a guy who's pitched 30 great innings expecting to get Sale/Q level returns for 2 relievers and a below average rental 3b. 3 worthless guys to the Sox just netted another top 30 prospect and give them the clear best farm system in baseball. Hahn's last 8 months has earned my faith that this was his best offer.
  17. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:43 PM) Agreed. I'm shocked at the response here Way over-valuing of our 3 + the huge hauls the Yanks got last year for Chapman/Miller = thinking we got fleeced.
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) We just acquired another top 50 OF prospect, I think this signals Avi is as good as gone. I'd just keep Avi at this point unless you get blown away (which I doubt). If he somehow figured it out you can trade him at next years deadline for a bigger haul.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:30 PM) Thanks for your input. No prob, just responding to you calling him Miller/Jenks.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:09 PM) I guess Andrew Miller went from some bum who couldn't figure anything out to a guy who turned into the best reliever in the game overnight. Not like a slight mechanical tweak could make that difference. Oh, and Jake Arrieta, he was just some back of the rotation fodder to Cy Young winner with what amounted to a slight mechanical tweak. Hell, let's go back 12 years. The White Sox claimed a fireball pitcher off waivers named Bobby Jenks. He worked with Coop a bit in Spring Training, converted to a reliever, and closed out the most important game in White Sox history in 88 years. No, a slight mechanical tweak doesn't mean s***. Dang I didn't realize there was a 100% chance that we just traded away a prime Miller/Jenks/Thorton/Contreras and there's absolutely no possibility a guy with a 50 inning track record could end up being nothing 2 years from now. Damn you Hahhhhhnnnnnnnn
  21. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:04 PM) Highly disagree. Typically, you don't make these types of deals. You don't package your bullets like this. D-Rob is a high quality get for the Yankees for this year and next. Kahnle, as others have mentioned, has been absolutely fantastic and should cost the most. He is not simply an 'add' to this deal, he is the deal. Frazier is a big get as well, as he has a lot of power and stops the R'Sox from taking him on. We are getting Rutherford, who while being awesome and exciting, is 20 years old and just drafted last year. Clarkin's nice. But nothing else. Meh. Not too bad, don't get me wrong, but mehhhh. No, he's not And if a "slight mechanical change" is all Kahnle needed to become the best reliever in the game for the next 4 years then A) Cooper needs a 10 year contract extension. B) I'll eat my hat
  22. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:58 PM) This is an exciting loss of a trade I think. Rutherford is very exciting, and Clarkin is nice, but this is not a win by any means. We are giving up 3 quality pieces and taking on Clippards contract here. The one thing to note is how lackluster the other deals have been so far in the trade deadline in terms of prospects. So I can understand it from this point of view. One more quality piece added and I think it's a very even deal. 2 more quality pieces, I think we win. 0 quality pieces added to the 3 and we lose (slightly). Frazier is not a quality piece. He's a rental coming off 1.5 s*** years. Kahnle has be a "piece" for 3 months. People are crazy
  23. QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) 4th guy has to be good Kahnle has a stupid friendly contract, need another top prospect He also has a 3 month track record that could vanish next year
  24. QUOTE (MEANS @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) exactly, living in Indy, season tickets were never in the cards for myself, but after 2005 I bought an Ozzy plan (13 games) and drove up to see a ton of games. My family went a few years after 2005 with season tickets because "we wanted first dibs on the playoff tickets". That plan died pretty swiftly and we canceled them as there was no point.
