QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Dec 9, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) Who is beating out Giolito and Lopez for the #4 and #5 SP spots? Shields and Fulmer? Also, didn't Boston already start Moncada's clock last season? If so, what's the gain to starting him in the minors? They all start in the minors for at least 5-6 weeks to gain an extra year of control. None of them are close to a year of service time.

While I agree that we haven't developed a ton of talent, we haven't had this level of talent to work with probably ever. Much easier to develop talent when it's actually good to start with. Better drafting, a deep minors system, and what seems to finally be a belief that "hey, this s*** isn't working anymore" has me looking forward to them in a few years. ...That is until the first time we're a few games up in June and they're tempted to trade away a bunch of prospects for an old guy.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 1m1 minute ago The #Nationals tried to get #WhiteSox to expand the Adam Eaton trade to include closer Todd Frazier, but Sox refused, will deal separately Nice, didn't know Todd could pitch. Maybe that will increase his value.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:42 AM) Guys...the Sox aren't a lock to pick #1 next year. Don't get your hopes up. Assuming no call ups of the youngins and everyone else sold off, they're gonna be baaadddddd.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) I'm probably overreacting, but I feel like if Hahn deals Quintana and Abreu OR Frazier, this team may not win 55 games. You say that like its a bad thing. I would gladly take 55 wins vs 75

To those worried about the glutten of pitching prospects
jenksycat replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No point in even freaking out anyway with Q/Abreu/Jones/Melky/Frazier/Robo still on the table. We're going to get 8-10 more players back for that group + a couple top 3 draft picks in the next couple years + have a mountain of money to spend on FA in 2019-2020. So pumped that they appear to finally not be half in half out 78 win team. -
QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:22 PM) If I am the Dodgers I am calling the White Sox up riight now. Jansen would cost 80/5 million dollars and a supplemental pick. Robertson- 25/2 million dollars. Probably 2 top prospects in a loaded system. The White Sox would probably do Lux and and Barnes. Wouldn't cost the Dodgers a pick

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) I think with Moncada now here, Abreu will be staying as an elder statesman and assume a Konerko role. Could help with recruiting if he produces. By the time we're ready to recruit anyone he will be a FA. If we can get a decent return, gonzo -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:41 PM) I'm with you, it's just Sox baseball is about to get weird so I'm not willing to rule anything out going forward. I'm not sure what value precedence holds when it's currently being disrupted. Assuming there are no stupid signings in the next couple years...they might realistically have 70-90 million to spend on free agents in 2019/2020. A 7-9 year mega deal for a 26 year old prime Machado might end up fitting perfectly if a good chuck of these guys pan out. -
QUOTE (ventura_abreu @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:28 PM) I love the first 2 rebuilding trades and the 7 prospects that we got back for Sale and Eaton; however, even in a re-build, how many prospects do we need to change the general course of the club. Along with some of our own under the radar prospects (including Latin American youngsters) as well as some of our better known prospects, do we already have enough of a core group of young players to go forward? In saying slow down on the re-build, I am presuming that we will still get a few more young players when we presumably will trade Robertson, Frazier, and Cabrera. In short, unless someone really is ready to give us an outstanding package of players, should we leave Abreu and Quintana alone? If you get the package of players you want for Q or Abreu, they should be traded.

QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:50 PM) Need position players including outfielders, Right now 2017 outfield is Melky/Shuck/Avi G. We're not trading for the 2017 team. -
Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
jenksycat replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:40 PM) Yep. Couple things to add: 1) Like has been mentioned here previously, we all assume that Q moves for position player headliners; 2) Part of the problem last year, at a minimum, is that the rotation was brutal after the top 3 with not a lot of immediate help in the system after Fulmer. The depth of pitching in the system today is great. 3) There are two very early picks coming. It's hard to imagine the Sox aren't going to be picking in the top 3 in the '18 draft. Bats are going to be a priority in those drafts. The fact that people are complaining about Eaton for a top 5 prospect, a top 40 prospect, and a first round pick in the '16 draft is baffling to me. + a ton of (real) money to spend on any remaining holes once all these guys come up -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) We HAD to get position players. That is what got us into this mess in the first place. Was Q in this trade? Or do they still have the best available SP on the market available to trade for a slew of positional players? We're trading away 2 aces. They need pitching to refill. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) You're absolutely nuts if you don't think Heyward was signed because of his defense in right field. Sure, the Cubs were probably hoping for some increased offensive production due to his tools but if he wasn't thought of as the best defensive right fielder in the league then he's not making anywhere near that type of money. ...Cubs signed him to be a CFer before Fowler came back. -

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:51 PM) Lets not lose our minds here Heyward had a down year, but had been a considerably better player than Eaton Although given the contract he signed I would much rather have Eaton the next five years than Heyward Considerably better? No, not at all. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) George Ofman @georgeofman 4m4 minutes ago Sox and Nats talking Quintana/Eaton package. Let's we where this goes. Would have to have either Turner or their entire farm system right? -
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 06:05 PM) Wondering if Bautista will go for biggest deal or reasonable deal + contender. Last big contract, "only" made 85mil in his career...I'd bet he goes for the cash.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) I think we should hold off on trading Abreu. He ended last season hot, maybe he can up his stock with a nice first half in 2017. Gotta hope EE/Bautista/Trumbo don't sign for peanuts and tank Abreu's value
