QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) He wasn't fired he quit.....and he hasn't been beloved in a few years other than in his own mind time to replace the batteries on sarcasm meter

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 17, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) I don't understand why people keep saying stuff like this. You can't trade Rios, Peavy, or Dunn because no one wants them. Being a GM isn't as easy as 'keep all the good players and trade the bad ones.' Well then the GM should be fired and not the beloved manager if that's the case.

We're actually downgrading from Pierre in LF. Ah so sad

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Yes, but you have only ended half the fiasco The fiasco was the bickering between the coach and GM. Unless you are expecting the bickering to continue with Robin, that particular fiasco is gone.

What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks
jenksycat replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 10:47 AM) Rockies are potential trading partner for Danks. They need a starter just like Danks and are under pressure to win. They made a busload of money in 2011 and can afford it. They offered to take on Wandy Rodriguez from Houston at $12 Million salary, but the Astros pulled him off waiver list. Danks is even better than anyone named Wandy. Rockettes have several really good prospects plus a pretty good outfielder in Seth Smith who would be available. They just traded a much cheaper and better pitcher in Jimenez -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) Whoever Cowley talked to felt that was the case. He said none of the Guillen's were his sources. I'm guessing some of them were the departed coaches. I'd like to know who his source is in the front office. you're a f***ing lunatic or Cowley at this point. I'm not sure which is worse

Is Carlos Quentin going to be on this team in 2012?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) There is always a point where you go over budget. Even if it is by a dollar. Not in the case of a guy like Buehrle or PK imo. As long as the contracts are reasonable and close to fair market, you keep guys like that around as they mean more than just what they provide on the field. I mean, think of all the smiles they'll put on faces for instance. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) It wouldnt be because then those prospects will be at their peak value and you would want to then trade them for 2020 I think in an ideal situation, we keep the Barons stocked and start a dynasty there. -

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:42 AM) No. If a team goes over budget to keep Quentin there are bigger problems. Coming from a guy who wants to trade every single player on the 40 man roster so our 2016 team is legit -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) these statements make me laugh a dash of hyperbole yes...but Buehrle is the rare case of re-sign no matter what imo, even if its a couple extra million. So if you're saying we can't re-sign a guy like Buehrle because his contract would put us 5 mil over budget, then there are bigger problems. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:31 AM) Because we have a cheaper replacement that he would be stealing playing time from and Q+Thornton may = Buehrle. If JR can't resign Buehrle because of the 5 or so mil more Q will cost next year then he should sell the team. And he wouldn't be stealing time if him and Vic play the corners with Rios/Aza in CF. Edit- And please don't confuse my stance on this as some sort of retarded "he makes people smile in restaurants". I wanted Q traded last deadline, but now I'd rather just ride it out and hope Dunn, Peavy, and Beckham remember how to not suck and our lineup becomes Aza/Beckham/Q/Dunn/PK/Dayan/Alexei/C/Morel. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 10:00 AM) I'm not expecting anything remotely close to "awesome talent in return". I just don't see the point. I don't see his trade value at the beginning of the season coming off an injured shoulder being vastly different than if he produces and gets traded at the deadline if we still suck. We already missed out his peak value last deadline, so why not ride it out, hope he has a monster 1st half and either: we're in the race, or we suck and we can dump him to someone truly desperate. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:45 AM) Have you even looked at Carlos Quentin's statistics? He's had one outlier season, the rest is highly-replaceable. So it's one of those deals. We'll get some awesome talent in return cause he's an awesome power bat...but he's really just an average player and we're the only ones who know it? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) And Hell...he might not even be healthy at the time of the trade. Any GM trading for him better demand a physical on that shoulder, with a full MRI and everything else that is allowed. The haul we'll get for him is shaping up to be epic. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) So that we don't have 5 people in the OF next year who need to be starting is the best answer I can give. Q/Rios/Dayan with Rios benched for Aza if he blows ass again. Who's the 5th starter? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 08:09 AM) I might pay the $7 mil or so in arbitration he'd get...but if I'm paying that you're not getting my top prospect. Or even a good one. If he performed exactly as he did last year, in the fangraphs world, he'd generate $11 million worth of WAR. I'd be paying $7 million for that, and probably wind up with a sandwich pick out of it assuming the rules don't change with this CBA (Which they're likely to do anyway). But he's shown no sign of the 2008 dominance since that year, and the last 2 years he was a negative value player...so I'm gambling $7 million on a guy who for 2 of the last 3 seasons has been almost useless. The only way you're getting me as a GM to give up a legit player for him is to pay some of the salary yourself so that I don't have to risk paying him to be on the DL. So....why again are we trading him then? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 04:02 PM) The sad thing is...his trade value really doesn't increase all that much...because he goes from being a full season participant to a 1/2 season rental. He comes out with a 1.000 OPS in the first half next year and his trade value only nudges up because that might push him to be a type A Free agent...he'd just be a 2 month rental you can't count on to stay healthy. there's that and then his trade value coming off an injured shoulder. Cancel each other out IMO. I'd rather roll the dice and keep him, then hope the guys making 100 mil perform like it. -
Chris Sale to be Moved to the Rotation in 2012
jenksycat replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Also, he only has to worry about endurance now. Rather than having to learn how to pitch pro ball....he's already proven that he can be dominant, just has to build up endurance so he can last 6 instead of 2 -
Chris Sale to be Moved to the Rotation in 2012
jenksycat replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Still don't understand the "sacrificing the future" argument with Sale. In hindsight, sure, it was a mistake. But if we had won the division it would have been worth it 100% to have one of the best relievers in the league in our pen. And if the answer to that is "we wouldn't have won the division no matter what"....then we shouldn't have resigned PK, shouldn't have signed Dunn, and traded Q, Danks, and Jackson before 2011 even started. -
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 30, 2011 -> 10:30 PM) About a month ago there was an article on MSN about celebrities who went broke. One of them was Willie Nelson. It's very easy for us who are not millionaires to be very judgmental with someone's money. It's easy cause its f***ing stupid. I don't feel bad for 1 second if a person who's made millions lost it all because of their own stupidity. Living within your means applies to those making 35k or 3.5mil

I'd be more worried about CC honestly. -Massive contract -Can't use the "He's never seen these pitchers before" excuse -He's not a 300 pounder So really the only thing you can call it is he can't handle the pressure. At lease with Dunn we have the hope that all he needs is a boot-camp like off season to get in shape, and learn all the AL pitchers....and we don't owe him a quarter billion.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 06:30 PM) We'd all be happy. If Dunn starts hitting the ball over the outfield walls regularly and Rios hits .300 and slugs like he did 2 years ago, our new manager likely will be the face of the franchise quickly. Hope that was sarcasm

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 05:46 PM) I was just playing Devil's Advocate back. Guillen and KW are equally responsible for Swisher, IMO. It was never a good fit, with Ozzie, or the entire veteran-led clubhouse. KW knew bringing in both Cabrera and Swisher would lead to some volatility. If he didn't anticipate it, he's not as smart as he thinks he is. And it was up to Ozzie to steer the ship, but the importance of his ego trumps all.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) We've had some pretty good hitters ourselves. He had PK, Dye, Thome, TCQ, Alexei in his one year here before we dumped him for nothing cause his sparkiness couldn't be handled.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:38 PM) Exactly. Next season a few people might wait a few games before leveling the new manager, cause it'll seem like they are praising Ozzie or something, but the second guessing will be strong if the team stinks. Or maybe everybody will turn on Kenny and he'll be the whipping boy. I'll be able to take part in that as I despise him even though I give him credit for 05. I have a feeling you're gonna be 10x more unbearable next year if they suck with a new manager.
