QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Maybe Swisher just needed.... 1) To be surrounded by All-Stars at every position so his offensive game would pass by unnoticed 2) Not to be forced into the leadoff spot, which is at least 50% KW's fault because Cabrera wasn't a protypical leadoff hitter and Jerry Owens was doomed to fail...at least to objective scouts who had been following him since his Expos/Nationals days 3) A wind tunnel to the RF bleachers In the end, it's still far from clear the Yankees will retain his services. We'll see. What All-Stars surrounded him in Oakland? Didn't he carry the Yanks for a while in the begining of 09 too?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:25 PM) Well, Marty "The Genius" 34. We finished 9-10 games back of the Twins in 2004. Clearly they were more talented, they'd crushed the White Sox in 2003 and won three consecutive division championships. So tearing apart the entire organization and dumping everyone to rebuild at that point in time would have been the prudent move from a financial standpoint in order to protect JR's pocketbook. Oooops, they did that, well, sort of....getting rid of Ordonez, Lee and Valentin. But KW clearly didn't trade away every talented player left for "prospects/suspects," like you're suggesting with Ramirez and Santos. And we actually won the World Series the following year. What do you know? A clever retort besides we finished 15 games behind the Tigers would be nice, but I'm not expecting much...thanks in advance for your time and consideration. So Marty, how his 2011-12 any different for this organization with KW in charge than 2004-2005? Because we finished 9-10 GB instead of 15 and were OH SO CLOSE (seemingly) to the juggernaut Twins? Well if Marty were running the team, think of what we could have gotten for Crede, Rowand, Buehrle, PK, Garland, and Garcia after '04!!! That 2007 team would have been STACKED

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) Well, sometimes it works. Surely, it will end up with a brief, pithy one or two sentence deflection about Kenny "The Genius" Williams. You called that one. Although thats a pretty easy call to make

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) So if you were a fan of the Braves or Red Sox, you'd argue they have no talent either, right? Because since the White Sox young talent failed, they still didn't do as poorly as the more-hyped young talent in Atlanta or the 2nd most expensive roster in the majors. If you remember, we'd dumped Edwin Jackson and shut down Peavy. 1/3rd of our starting rotation was completely different. If the pitching staff put up the same numbers in August and September as the first four months, you'd have a more valid point. Yes, Viciedo was disappointing, but it seems he wasn't 100% healed from his wrist problems. He was expected to be the biggest contributor, and it actually turned out to be DeAza instead, along with Flowers and Morel showing some encouraging pop as well. You're also discounting the nearly historic run that the Tigers put on for six weeks, the presence of Justin Verlander and Miguel Cabrera (2 of the 5 best players in baseball and true superstars) and the fact that our manager was more concerned with money and Miami and his next contract or his trip to Spain. How would that inspire the team? Finally, you keep arguing we should trade one of our cheapest and highest ROI players in Santos because of two blown saves to the Tigers. If we finished 11 games out instead of 15, would that have meant you would still have wanted to keep him and the White Sox young talent wasn't as bad as you're arguing? I'm personally offended by your use of logic
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Ended 15 games back after young talent given chance to play. Thanks for reminding me why I shouldn't bother with you.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) So you want Alejandro as the 4th of? Trading Quentin makes way too much sense, him and Danks will be gone. I want De Aza as the starting CF as of June 1 if Rios still can't hit.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) In it? You're going to be very disappointed if you think the plan for 2012 is to compete for a division title. How many games back were we in mid August with 2 of the worst every day players in MLB history, blackholes at 2b, 3b, and LF for months on end? I know you don't use logic, but give it a shot one time.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 03:27 PM) According to Fangraphs Player Value, Crawford was $1.6 million this year, while Adam Dunn was -$13.1 million (you read that right). That means Adam Dunn underperformed his contract in the Fangraphs world by $27 million, Crawford by $19 million. Defense taken into consideration I assume? Although CC's defense might have cost them a playoff spot last night.

just remember that either way, Theo Epstien is still a genius and KW is the worst GM in baseball

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 03:03 PM) Can it be argued the second Swisher trade was Ozzie's fault because he forced Williams hand? Yep, I put that one on Ozzie cause he couldn't handle him. Swisher's doing fine in big bad New York I put the need for signing Dunn on Ozzie as well cause he had to get speed and defense out of his DH. If we have Thome in 2010 maybe we don't panic and realize you can't have f***ing Kotsay as your DH so we have to make a big move.
-
I see no point in trading Quentin in the off season. Him and Dayan are your starting corner OF, if the team is in it you keep him, if not you trade him at the deadline (which we should have done this season any way)
-
QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) Huh, I always assumed a team's relevancy was dependent on you know the PLAYERS, not the manager... Talkin to the wrong guy about that. I want whatever the polar opposite of Ozzie is

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) You should not be so defensive. Must stop breaking own rule http://www.ukcia.org/images/troll-web.jpg

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) I don't remember when Kenny said it, but I'm going to assume it was when Quentin was tearing it up. Ah, so he must have been lying then, right? http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=cws
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) He did. No one expected Quentin to be the monster he was. But that is what slid Swisher to be the center fielder, was that Quentin came out of nowhere. Isn't his nickname TCQ because KW wanted "THE Carlos Quentin, not a player like him"?
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 29, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) If Dunn is hitting .159 again on June 1st, do you really think that he wouldn't retire? So wait, are you actually banking on Dunn retiring? Not a chance on earth that happens
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 09:36 PM) If Adam Dunn hit 40 to 50 home runs and Rios hit .320 with 110 RBIs and Peavy won 18 games, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Ozzie would be a great manager. If he played them yes, he would. If on the other hand Dunn was hitting .159 or Rios was hitting .203 for hypothetical example, and he played them almost daily for 80% of the season, then he would be a f***ing terrible manager. But again, hypothetical situation here.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 04:54 PM) But that article was filled with tons of one-sided misinformation. Right up Greg's alley then, no?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) Then so does the guy from yahoo who wrote that column tonight. I agree with everything he wrote. As far as respect. The people that hate me probably hate anybody that disagrees with them even though they won't admit that. What was so wrong about what I said? People blast me for not having stats to back up everything and 90 percent of the time they do the same thing right back in response to me. Ozzie Guillen is not and was not the devil. You are the one who said he had nothing to do with the title in 05. How can anybody "respect" that statement? Give me a break. Your statements are as 'ridiculous' as mine. good god man just stop, stoppppppp.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:01 AM) I'm actually kind of impressed. Click on "'Duk" the author and you'll see that all this person does is blog about baseball all day and all night. He's really working for his money, gotta respect that. When the total amount of new content is deemed to be of greater value than the content itself, this is exactly what you get. Now time to go back to piling on Kenny for not knowing Dunn & Peavy would be busts when it was so painfully obvious to all astute fans from the very get-go, and also for not selling high on Rios after last season when he could have dumped the whole contract and picked up a piece or two as well. Sadly this is about 90% of what this board will consist of till April 2012 with the handful of trolls s***ting in every thread

ridiculous If you identify with a baseball team because of the manager you should just stop watching all together.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 04:56 PM) It's obvious it's Alomar. Steve Stone says so on the score website. I would agree. So the question is, will Sandy be good? My answer: Yes. If the players perform. It's a players game. Then why the f*** do you care so damn much about ozzie? Jesus
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Not at all. I can't stand either one of them. You're making a late push to the neck and neck race between Victory and Greg
-
QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) oh, and Victory - on that Beckham front: Lillibomb? Why didn't ozzie start lilli over becks? Who the f*** would have been our utility guy then? Cmon, this is too easy
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) 1)Show me and everyone else concrete numbers that he was declining at this fast of a rate, or at all. Please, you'll have the floor on that one. 2)I agree with Rios and cannot defend that move. KW simply threw money at that position and it backfired big time. 3)No...faking No. Many people believed the Sox had three closers, 2 in training. Are you telling me Santos didn't do a good job for his rookie year? Tell me how Soriano has worked out for the Yankees. Fact is, proven closers are usually old washed up guys who have serious injury concerns or just now, plain suck. 4)Kenny got a CF to replace Rios, and Ozzie kept playing him and batting him 2-5 when the guy showed no effort. Beckham was a #2 overall pick who had a very good rookie year, and average 2nd year(though he turned it on later in that year). So you're telling me, you predicted that Beckham was going to suck even though there was not nearly enough a sample size to predict such a thing? Wow, mindreader. Can we please, please stop replying to him? Please. He is clearly, 100% without a doubt, a troll. No question about at this point.
