QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) Smartest move the Marlins ever made. Sox are close to being irrelevant in this town of Chicago, losing a headline stealer like Ozzie. If you think that's not important in this Cubbie-town I believe u are mistaken. KW better make some significant changes cause the manager wasn't the problem with this poorly built team. Ozzie's better off in Florida. I hope the Sox make significant player changes for the Buddy Bell era. It's no fun being on the downslide. The Royals are coming and we are sliding personnel-wise. Good luck, Ozzie. You are the best manager in Sox history. Good luck, Ozzie successor. This season sucked and we fans want to have something to cheer about during the season as well as the postseason. KW won't make the same mistake again. He'll hire a Williams puppet. Hope he picks a good man. I wanna win. From the espn.com story "Only Jimmy Dykes and Al Lopez have won more games as White Sox manager than Guillen, who led the club to the World Series title in 2005. Now in his eighth year at the helm, Guillen said he never expected to ride the coattails of that championship forever." hahahahahahahahahahahahahahah........hahahahahahahahahahahaah

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 09:10 PM) @jonmorosi Jon Morosi Reinsdorf said to hold Joey Cora, Buddy Bell, and Tony La Russa in high regard. Three names to keep in mind as #WhiteSox prepare for search. 53 seconds ago via web Why doesn't JR just name himself as GM since he knows it all? f***

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) There's still some trouble though...you also can believe that Paul Konerko might finally start showing his age, AJ Pierzynski could have a more 2010 like season, Mark Buehrle could either not return or not have the caliber of season he just had, John Danks and Carlos Quentin could be traded, Phil Humber might not carry this team for 2 months, Santos could fail to repeat his success this year. Not all of those will happen, but a number of them are somewhat likely. I guess...but I'll ignore those I'm just thinking best case, which means "on paper" they shouldn't be bad, just like "on paper" they shouldn't have been this bad this year. I see no point in trading Q, at least not until the deadline. His value was the highest it would ever be this past July, so you might as well hope for a stacked OF next year with him and DV on the corners. I also believe Dunn will come around to 35hr/100rbi next year and pray to god Beckham remembers how to hit. GB/Q/PK/Dun/DV as the heart of your lineup all at their career norms would be scary I think. -

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) That's why I have such doomsday feeling about 2012 that I can't remember having before. I feel like I've been watching the same result for three years but this time it seems to be a foregone result for next year because we can't get rid of Rios or Dunn. And here we have KW drinking some home-brewed Koolaid. So even the wait-till-next-year optimism that usually sets in right about now is already snuffed. If you think next year could be any worse then you have to believe that: Morel will never hit Beckham will never hit again Dunn will never go back to the form from the last 8 years Rios will never hit again Peavy will never sniff his old SD days De Aza/Vicedo will be worse than Pierre Now I don't see all those things as turning around, but I can't imagine them ALL failing again. 1 or 2 of those options going the other way and its a different season really. -
QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) I really hope it doesn't come to that. Regular Ozzie is hard enough, I can't even imagine what Lame Duck Ozzie would do. He'd probably do something crazy like play guys hitting

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Well, someone still said it. It's not like no one saw a disappointing season coming from him. I certainly didn't see it coming, but some apparently did. I attribute that more to dumb-luck from people who just plain disliked Dunn...not anyone being intelligent about it. -

Awesome tickets can be had for $13 haha...may have to lift my ban on sox games to go. I was at the game before the deadline a few years ago when everyone thought he would be traded. Re-sign Buehrle chant with KW in the skybox was awesome.

a "successful season" in the major leagues
jenksycat replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) I agree, but the Wild Card play-in wouldn't really be adding another team to the playoffs. It'd make two teams work a little harder to get there, and put them at a disadvantage that they deserve for having to get in via the Wild Card. Exactly. As it is now, the Wild Card is a benefit really, you don't have to play the Yankees. If the Tigers or something scratched away next year and won the WC, they should be punished for being the "worst" playoff team by having to burn Verlander in in a play-in game. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) I like the Skeptical tone Heyman strikes at the end here. Uhh ok Heyman...pretty sure the Marlins want him to make patrons at local restaurants smile and to win a couple championships.

jenksycat replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd like to see a 1 or 3 game "wild card playoff" I don't know how you could argue that a 1/3 game series between Boston and TB at the end of the regular season would be a bad thing. Then the wild card team actually has a disadvantage going into the playoffs like they should. -
Sergio pegged someone earlier this year as retaliation, Thornton as well if I remember.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) But that doesn't matter. It's about being smiled at in a restaurant, speaking your mind, and being one of a kind. Besides, once Ozzie goes to Florida, he's got at least two WS titles in the bag. Well to be fair, he's only going to win 1-2 more titles in his career then get a HOF nod.
