  1. QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 10:52 AM) If I had it my way. The Sox would trade Danks, Floyd, Peavy, Thornton, AJ, Rios, PK, Dunn, Quentin, Crain, Frasor and Ohman. I would start over and get some great top prospects into this organzation, so we can compete for many years to come and not just be a middle of the road team. A team next year full of young hungry prospects couldn't do any worse, then what we have seen this year. Not even remotely possible. You'd have to take the "top prospects" you get from Danks/Quentin and give them right back (along with massive $$) to have anyone take the rest of those contracts.
  2. Love the freak out over him talking positive....as if he's calling a press conference to announce this s***, rather than it (shockingly) being a reporter asking a question.
  3. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Dunn has been a one-trick pony who has played on crappy, losing teams for a long, long time. they couldn't wait to get him out of Cincinnati because he doesn't have enough pride in his craft to get in shape. You can believe in the fairy tale that he'll bounce back next season. But he's putting up the worst season in 100 years because he's lost it. As bad as he was in the first half of the season, he's bee WORSE the second half. he'd done. Finished. An embarrassment. Props to Konerko.Sox would be lost without him. I'll always take a 35HR & 100RBI "one trick pony"
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 23, 2011 -> 09:13 AM) That's very interesting. They think an AL team with a .500 or worse record is going to claim him? Any team would claim him, he's owed basically nothing.
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 12:25 PM) Jensky, do you only show up to mock other posters when the Sox win? Because I never see you around otherwise. As I've said before, only to mock the upper-echelon of stupid posts. This site has been pretty much unbearable otherwise for most of the season, so there's no point in posting unless you somehow work in how much ozzie/kw/dunn/rios/pierre all suck ass. And really, you're upset because I mocked a post about how the Sox winning the division would be terrible in a SOX WINNER thread for one of the biggest games of the season? Really?
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) But if we win the division, we can't fire everyone...maybe we should fire everyone the day before we clinch the division, so we can fire everyone, AND win the division. Don't get greedy
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 11:56 AM) Hey, it's not like a goal is winning the division or anything. The goal is only to win the division if it's clear we won't, then fire everyone. If we do have a legit shot at winning, it doesn't really matter because the team sucks, it only counts if the Twins win and then get swept.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 11:40 AM) Seriously? Ignoring for the moment the whole "what kind of fan are you" thing, look at this team. They've tended to do better against higher levels of competition. They are very good on the pitching side. These are both things that would make them more dangerous in the playoffs than their record would indicate. They may get whomped in the playoffs, but I'll happily take those chances over staying home. But then we might be stuck with Ozzie for another season oh-mah-gah, i wish they'd just lose 90 games rather than run the risk of having our pitching dominate a playoff series.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Most would get applauded for saying something like... "I was in Denver, not a huge market, came to Chicago and haven't really [sought out] a lot of marketing opportunities because we haven't accomplished what I want to on the field yet. Until we get to the Super Bowl, win Super Bowls and are successful there, then I don't think it's right for me to go out there and venture into those other markets." Yet Cutler's a bad, bad boy. God I hope he dominates this year. And by that I mean, God I hope the O-Line resembles an O-Line more than Swiss cheese this year. And that's the exact reason people all hate him. High comedy. He needs to do some DirecTV commercials or something.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 03:23 PM) Yes, maybe 4 or 5 teams...not every team like Jenksy mentioned. What does he have, like 14 million left on his contract? Missing the point. The Sox aren't going to just dump him for nothing, and no s*** team will give up anything for him. So the Royals or whoever claim him, offer nothing, we pull him back. He'd never make it to a team willing to give up players, might as well keep him till the off season and get at least something for him.
  11. He'd be blocked by every s***ty team and never get the chance to get a return. Pointless
  12. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 9, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) If you have Mark Teahen signed for $5.5 million next season, doesn't that automatically disqualify you from discussion for best GM in the league? BUT HE'S GOT SO MANY PROSPECTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd say he's just gotten over some dumb moves by other GM's than really making anything happen. Nobody in their right mind should have taken Wells, let alone GIVE UP an able MLB player for him.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) I find it comical that someone makes fun of speech and has grammar errors all in the exact same statement. Classic, that's when you have to triple check before posting so you don't look like an idiot.
  14. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 05:19 PM) Neither Pierre or Carlos are going to play CF, thats a tragedy waiting to happen. Why? I don't think Rios has thrown out a single runner yet and is petrified of the wall. Not that much of a downgrade. Griffey Podsednik Macoviak all former CF who would be the same if not worse than Pierre.
  15. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 05:11 PM) Too bad that Ozzie's irrationally married to the idea of Pierre leading off. Quentin in LF, Viciedo in RF, and a platoon of Pierre and Rios in CF is probably the best option at this point. I don't even care about Rios at this point. The insane offensive upgrade of Vicedo over Rios is worth Pierre in center. Not like he's never played there before
  16. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 04:45 PM) I'm not sure how much veteran talent Quentin is worth. He's more likely worth a prospect or two in the off-season. Regarding all the talk of replacing Quentin with Viciedo in this thread, I'm still wondering why Viciedo isn't on the active roster right now. I realize that he's not that good defensively at 3B but, with this team struggling like mad to score runs, it seems to me that his bat in the lineup would be worth the defensive downgrade. And they'd still have the option of using Vizquel as a defensive replacement late in games. I'd rather have him in the OF where he's played all season and just suck it up and put Pierre in center.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) Shedding Rios' salary is not areason to trade Thornton for someone we probably can't use. I think Rios can be dealt by himself. Anything is possible. I was told sometime earlier no one would take Teahan either Can you ship me several pounds of whatever you're smoking?
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) That's nice. I still think we'd have no chance. One 3-game series in 4 months doesn't do a whole lot for me. Boston is 62-29 since that 2-10 start. And they still haven't gotten jack s*** from Carl Crawford yet. When we beat them earlier in the year, they had just won 13 out of 15
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 09:44 AM) I am confused about why we would seemingly have interest in trading two players on the major league roster - one a very good lefty reliever- for an infielder who has been up for short stints with Milwaikee in 4 seasons and failed to stick including this year. In 2009 the guy had 128 at bats and struck out 54 times. We have a high strike out guy now so why do we need another one? A contest maybe? Don't give me the line of shedding salary either thank you very much. Don't see any spot for him in the infield either. ...shedding Rios's contract
  20. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:54 PM) I call BS on this rumor. You don't trade a key component of your team ( thorrnton) who could get you a hell of a lot more talent just to salary dump Rios. And worst of all you trade him for a mark teahan type who you just dumped. If brewers are even remotely interested in Rios, just waive him and let them put in a claim and have him. You do when said salary dump has an enormous contract. And we dumped Teahen not only because he sucked, but because he was also due money. Gamel is cheap
  21. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:06 PM) Because he's going to be getting $$$ in the upper teens. What's our cap figure at? Thought we had a bunch to spend and they clearly don't give a s*** about the offense so why not try to to have the best D in the league.
  22. So I admit to know very little on this...but why can't the Bears get Asomugha and just have an insane defense since the offense will suck again?
  23. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) What don't you guys understand about playing to win? When you've invested almost $130M in a team, you're only 3 games out with two full months left to play, and the rest of the division sucks, you don't put your tail between your legs and quit on the season because a few of your big-money players have been underachieving so far. What don't you guys understand about the situations of Jackson and Quentin? If you get a ton for Quentin now, you do it and trust Vicedo to take his place. We're not resigning him in 2013. He'll make a ton next year. He can get hurt at any waking moment. This the absolute max his value will ever be and the perfect market. How does that not make sense? I'd want him to make that trade if we were 5 GB or 5 ahead. And he deals a guy who was walking at the end of the year and was also streaky, frees up some payroll to possibly make other moves, and makes a solid pen even better + gets a former top prospect.
  24. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) Was Kenny selling veteran starters for middle relievers and prospects back then? If Kenny had 6 starters, 1 of which was walking at the end of the year, and the option to dump a bad contract and get a reliever to help this year and a former high round SP too I think he'd do it.
