  1. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:06 PM) Those of you who are pining for a firesale-for-prospects while 3 games out in late July have poor memories. Like the last couple years when we were in the same position and collapsed in August/September?
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) 1.) I hope you are ready for a long rebuild. Are you going to follow the Sox if they get rid of everybody and suck like the Royals for 5-6 years? Quentin is our second best hitter. 2.) This. CQ should be part of our future plans. Too bad our GM can't make creative trades or steal players of value once in a while. Trading Quentin leaves a gaping hole in the lineup for some time to come. Yeah cause KW has never "stole" anyone. Christ he stole the f***ing guy you're talking about I love Q, but you're not building around him. Massive injury risk, expensive, and streaky. No thanks.
  3. QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) I hope not interested at all, Figgins is f***ing terrible. I'd swap Rios for Chone in a heartbeat
  4. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:56 PM) I'm fine with that, but is that what we're looking at here? A full scale rebuild? When has KW ever done that? I for one doubt that's what is going on...it looks to me like KW has buyers remorse. He bought a car and it never starts, but the dealership has cashed the check and closed the doors. He has to know what he's working with. If he has to do a full out rebuild, it makes no sense to have Dunn's contract and thus would have to trade it along with dumping anyone else not named Konerko or Buehrle. If he does a "re-tooling" he can keep it and wait for Dunn to remember how to hit again. I don't see the issue really.
  5. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Then why is Kenny trying to move him? If Kenny THINKS he will actually become productive hitter again then why dangled him when his value is at the most absurdly low? This isn't about what I think...it's what the hell is Williams doing. He goes all out to get Dunn...tried to trade for him last year, finally bags him as a f-agent then watches Dunn look like a complete waste for four months of baseball and then gets the grand idea to DANGLE HIM.... I've seen more clever shenanigans in a hack fantasy league. Difference between dangle & dump salary. If the rumor was "KW tries to get any team to take Dunn's contract" I'd be worried. I think you're reading way too much into that. He can't truly "rebuild" with all of those contracts so I imagine he has to at least see what he can get.
  6. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:38 PM) LOL...hey guys, here is a guy who hits .160, can NOT hit left handers at all, nor can he play any field positions. But none of that is a problem, because he is making more money than most third world nations. Line up now...give me your best offer... Kenny is really starting to look foolish. He obtains a bunch of aging, overrated, overpaid, and generally useless hacks and then tries to pawn them off on someone else. Good luck moving this guy KW. Maybe someone would take him if you promised to never call them again with another boneheaded offer. Oh, unless your asking FOR a player like Dunn for a couple nice pitching prospects, then it's ok to call. So you believe Dunn, after 8+ years of steady production and at the age of 31 will never hit again?
  7. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) Obviously, the Sox would do their best to get something good in return. But, he's due to be an 8-10 million dollar player next year. In case you haven't noticed their trying to trim payroll as much as you can right now. Attendance has been miserable and the sox aren't performing. Why else would you trade away your second best hitter in the middle of a pennant race? Are we to assume once Viciedo comes to Chicago he will immediately put up the exact same or better production where we won't miss Q? You trade a streaky, injury risk player at the absolute peak of his value/market. You're most likely not going to match whatever obscene offer he gets in 2013, you pillage a top farm system, and plug in a comparable hitter...me thinks you don't understand what a "salary dump" is. Teahen was a salary dump, trading Q for a couple top-50 prospects is not.
  8. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) Trading Q would be an awful move and purely about salary and arbitration next year. He's our second best hitter and our offense is already pathetic. He's young also. I don't agree at all. If we somehow managed to get into the playoffs, our staff could carry us That's about the polar opposite of what it would be.
  9. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 12:04 PM) Hell no. That's a massively weak defensive OF, especially when pitching is supposed to be your strength and your ticket into the postseason and beyond. At best that's treading water I think. The massive upgrade of Dayan over Rios in the lineup balances out the slight downgrade of Rios to Pierre in center for me. And we aren't winning s*** if our staff needs a sub 2.00 ERA to win games.
  10. The only way I don't trade him now (assuming you get the "rape" package, which sounds painful btw) is if we go on a run this weekend and do an OF of Vic/Pierre/Q. I'll take the defensive downgrade of Pierre in CF (and honestly don't remember Rios's arm throwing anyone out) to have 2 mashers on the corners for the rest of this season.
  11. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) I like Brown, but Quentin is the kind of player you build around not trade off. He's had his injury issues but he's playing a pretty solid RF and is a yearly 30 HR/ 100 RBI threat. Brown has a long way to go show half of what Q has shown. They say he's maturing and not so hard on himself anymore. The guy was going to be league MVP if he doesn't hurt himself two yeasr ago. If De Aza shows anything, you have a young OF of him, Q, and Viciedo for years to come. I wouldn't be mad if they traded and recived Brown but I'd rather keep Quentin. He's all those things....if healthy and on a streak. I love Q, but if you can pillage a farm for them you have to do it. Someone will give him a massive deal in 2013 as a FA we wouldn't match anyhow.
  12. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:03 PM) Just some dudes twitter feed. Look back in the tread here for his account. Any name(s) of the studs we have to give up in order to dump him?
  13. I've tried to find it.....but where is this Rios to Brewers rumor at?
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) .555 OPS vs .733 It's not even close. Rios is utterly useless. Rios owed - 38 mil Sorryanal owed - 54 mil
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) I think its fairly safe to say that the Cards got less for Rasmus than we did for Hudson and Holmberg. A year ago I would have thought that was crazy talk. Eh, and H & H were fairly "unknowns" at the time. Looking back is fun and all, but I can at least see the reasoning behind the trade at the time.
  16. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:48 PM) Rasmus just brought EJax and a couple of relievers. Please stop. Rasmus makes minimum wage compared to Rios. For your sake, i hope you're just being sarcastic with the Rios trade talk.
  17. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) I think there's a shot. We'll likely have to eat at least a 12 million per season in salary, but I think Kenny would be open to all offers You forgot a 12 in your orginal post.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) Yeah...dunn is the only problem, isn't he. No, but he's the undisputed #1 problem and that is of no fault to KW. If we had a sub-par Dunn season we're easily in 1st place.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Yes, don't lash out at the person who put together the team. Yeah why would KW sign Dunn knowing full well he would hit .160 What an idiot!!!!!
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) As they certainly should be; LaRussa's done a fine job with that team, but the Rasmus situation has been a complete joke this year. His personal vendetta cost them a lot here. Secondly, the White Sox, had they prioritized winning baseball, could have had Rasmus for a similar sweetheart deal. There's no reason not to toss them Thornton and Reed and enjoy a future built around Colby Rasmus, Dayan Viciedo, Gordon Beckham, and even Carlos Quentin. I thought Gordon sucked and has a very low ceiling now?
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:27 AM) I believe this is a bagless vacuum we are using Like a Dyson?
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) Or that we lost out on Colby Rasmus due to lack of a farm system. I think that's where the main frustration comes from. And lol@it being even insinuated that Jackson/Thornton would be enough. Rasmus' potential is unlimited. They weren't going to give him away. So which is it? Rasmus is the next Ted Williams or the Cards can't wait to get rid of him? Can't be both.
  23. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) Haha. I have just had it with Kenny's horrible moves. Honestly, I put this all 100% on Adam Dunn. If we had even a slightly below career average Dunn, we're running away with the division and trading for upgrades. I just don't get the freaking out over KW. I don't expect him to rape every trade he does and honestly only disliked the 2nd Swisher trade because it was for stupid reasons. Took a gamble to fill a gaping whole in CF with a former all-star, traded garbage for a potential Ace, and traded a young pitcher who wasn't getting the job done for someone who could in a division race. So eh, whatever. Hindsight is a funny thing
  24. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) A minor leaguer with a career 1.34 WHIP is nothing to be happy about. Add that he is 24, f*** f*** f*** Are you angry or something?
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) Toronto is getting a could-be elite young outfielder for our f***ing property. I imagine a future built around Rasmus, Beckham, and Viciedo, and yeah, I'm f***ing angry. Your source please? If you honestly believe they're getting Rasmus for Jackson... WHY THE f*** would KW not just do that? You can play the hindsight game and forget all his awesome moves, fine. But thinking Toronto's not throwing in a top prospect (which we don't have other than Dayan) is stupid.
