QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 11:07 AM) I just looked at the Lakers salary situation, WOW! If a hard cap was put in below $80m they are really screwed. Quick update (from Feb 20th): The NBA is pushing to implement a hard salary cap that could also include rollbacks on current contracts. The rollbacks would help implement a hard cap easier and faster What would the rollbacks mean? NBA pays the remainder of the salary and the team cuts the player?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 23, 2011 -> 09:21 AM) Mayo would be a risk, but one would think that it would be a risk worth taking at this point if he comes relatively cheap. Gotta wonder how he would respond to Thibs, because Thibs is a tough love type of coach. He'd also have a former teammate in Taj here to hopefully keep him in line

Albert Pujols' extension - Cards fail to extend by deadline
jenksycat replied to chisoxfan09's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) He attended Maple Woods Community College in the Kansas City area in spring of 1999. In his only college season, Pujols hit a grand slam and turned an unassisted triple play in his first game.[9] He batted .461 for the year. Was there ever a reason why he was passed by every team 604 times in the draft? I'll never understand that -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) I still think the Griffey trade was the worst ever. He had nothing left. Swisher was at least defensible at the time it happened, but Griff never made sense. Imagine where this team would be right now if we had Danny Richar. God dammit, brings a tear to my eye.

Peavy, Danks, Jackson, Buehrle, Floyd....backed up by Sanots, Crain, Thorton, Sale.....on opening day. Woooo man that'd be nice.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 03:43 PM) Why is that something that is laughable? Because I refuse to agree with you? The fact that I would disagree with your weak argument means mine must be wrong by default? He was laughing at you saying a pro athlete "wants it more". I'd bet pretty much anything a QB in the biggest game of his life "wants it". -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 12:26 PM) Because this whole controversy allows Bears fans a period of denial whereby they can avoid thinking about losing the game to a better team, especially a better Packers team. We honestly might have been blessed by what happened, because Hanie coming in, whether it was him or some other effect occurring, certainly seemed to give us a better chance to win that game. It hurts more that they weren't the "better team". We held their highly nutsac-sucked offense to 14 f***ing points and the lord and savior arodge to a 50 QB rating....all we needed was a pedestrian showing by the offense and its a Superbowl trip. But since we have a horrific and stubborn coaching staff, we got nothing from the O. In my book, this loss is 100% on the coaching staff. They all should have been immediately fired after that 3rd down play with the season on the line coming out of a timeout. You can't win with a coaching staff like that. -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 24, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) I'm talking about what Urlacher said about the fans and other players watching at home, added to things he's done in the past. Defending the QB is great. He didn't say the fans....they asked him about other players tweeting about it and he said something along the lines of "players at home who's seasons are over? those jelous guys?" I haven't been a big fan of Urlacher since his hold-out for more money after a s***ty/injured season a couple years ago, but I liked what he did yesterday. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 22, 2011 -> 08:35 PM) Byron Scott has to be thinking, "WHat the hell have I gotten myself into?" or "hey I'm making several million dollars to do this and will probably get fired AND paid before my contract is up"

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 02:37 PM) Doubt it. The A's are not exactly lacking in the SP department. Just more B.S. from that pathetic site. You realize that site doesn't write any material right? It just compiles it all into one place.

Sox agree to 1 year deals with Danks, TCQ, and Pena

QUOTE (gatnom @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) Oh please, the last contract they offered him was a joke. I bet if they offered a Lester type deal he'd turn it down, is that unfair? And I also bet you TCQ wishes he took that same offer as well. -

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 12:50 PM) Must be something to be a team's best pitcher and see all these multiyear contracts get handed out left and right. Not at all saying that we aren't doing the right thing, just wondering how it's sitting with him. Player point of view is notoriously shortsighted of course. He shouldn't be thinking anything considering he's probably turned down a handful of multi-year offers already. -

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) Any one has an idea where does the payroll sit after those two signings? 7.6 million higher. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 17, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Today was the most impressed I've been with Deng all season. He was just absolutely terrific overall today. Anywho, I just want this damn team to get fully healthy. I can't wait to see our actual team out there at some point. You mean the 4-5 healthy games together weren't enough for you?

I taped that stupid countdown cause I knew Uribe's catch wouldn't be on there. I bet Jeter's less impressive but similar play was though.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 06:25 AM) It's not as if Bears fans haven't overreacted to a late season performance by a fresh player before. Remember all the talk about Aromashodu before the season? I still like a tall, fast WR....not sure if he was hurt or they just don't like him anymore. He had a couple catches the first couple games then never saw him again.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 11:49 PM) I wonder if the people saying Sale needs to be in the bullpen were on board with having Flowers on the team last year as our backup C and DH rotation instead of letting him develop and grow in AAA. yep, cause thats definitely a fair comparison. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 02:59 PM) There has to be some sort of a balance there. You can't just act like the other years don't matter. Its not like if we win the Series in 2011, everyone would accept a 50 win season the next season. The thing is, even if Sale starts the season as a starter, he can always go back to the pen. Going from the pen to the rotation in midseason is a much more impossible task, and it could really screw up other things that are fine, by putting demands on other players past their roles. Thing of the dominos that fell apart last year just when Jenks was out. Oh, that's what I've meant all along. I want to see him in the rotation till Peavy gets back, then immediately to the bullpen. And I'd take a 50 win season (which is a gross gross exaggeration, Sale isn't Cy Young here and we're talking about a SP not a Pujols-like heart of the team) if it meant another WS ring. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) It will retard his growth towards being a 200 inning pitcher. There are pretty clear studies that show how the growth of a pitchers arm needs to be done. Forget 2014, we don't have starters for 2012. If Sale hasn't pushed into the 160 to 170 inning range this year, he won't be ready to be a 6 inning pitcher for 2012 when we need him as a starter. 2012 doesn't matter either. 2011 is the only thing that matters. I'd rather say at the end of the year "well, it'll take Sale half a season in the minors to stretch out in 2012 but at least we tried" than "man if we just had 1 more lights out bullpen guy in 2011 we could have won it all" -

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 12:40 PM) Exactly. EDIT: Glad to finally agree with you on something, lol That was the point of my whole argument, we're going for it in 2011 so you don't care "what about Sale in 2014??????". I also don't buy that 1 year in the bullpen will hurt his arm or any of that bs. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 03:02 AM) And nothing says "stunting a career" like throwing your 1st RD draft pick into a career in the bullpen before he ever gets a fair shot at starting. Drafting a reliever in the 1st RD is an awful way to draft. Yep, 1 year out of the bullpen so the team has a chance at greater things will cripple him beyond repair. You got me there, I think we should just keep him in AAA for the whole season then, juts to be safe.
