  1. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Well, I think him and I have seen eye-to-eye on a lot of things. I think he and fathom are the two guys who's views I generally agree with more than anyone else's. Super depressing and the sky falls with every hit given up?
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) Or struck out and pretended he didn't... That isn't cheating. If it is, then OFers who pretend they will catch a fly-ball to freeze a runner is cheating. Faking to 3rd and throwing to 1st is cheating. A 2B/SS pretending a ball went into the OF on a steal throw is cheating. AJ wasn't tagged, so he ran to first. The catcher did not tag or throw the ball to first and it was ruled it hit the dirt. How you can even call that cheating is ridiculous. Cheating would be hitting the ball out of a guys glove, not running out a dropped 3rd strike.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 04:29 PM) What soapbox? I'm stating my opinion that I don't want the cheater. You say you want him. You save your win at all costs soapbox for yourself and your family. He's not a cheater if he plays for the white sox. Again, throw out all your WS gear and stop watching baseball if you don't want cheaters.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) That's where we differ, chw. Win and do it with class. As far as Jenks post. Take your ball and go home. That's such an easy argument. It's not that simple. I said I'd boo him once, then grudgingly root for him helping us win and feel dirty doing so. He wouldn't be the reason we won it all if we did win it all; it would take a lot more than Manny. He'll be embraced early; who in LA is talking about Mannywood now? They want that bum long gone! Just as we will if he's here long enough. I've been a Sox fan a long time. Just because they add one bum doesn't mean I have to burn my jersey and hat. Then don't call it a f***ing disgrace to the team. If you honestly think only a handful of guys were juicing and none were Sox players then you're naive as s***, the entire era is tainted and you can't really argue against that. They aren't talking about mannywood because he's been hurt. If he was hitting 350 and taking them to the playoffs, they'd be talking about him. They aren't going to the playoffs and he hasn't played much this year.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) If Manny is beyond criticism, why did somebody say Farmer always blasts him? My position is not unique. I'd prefer to not have the bum on my team. I personally would want to boo him in his first plate appearance then cheer for him because he is only one player on a team. I don't like what he stands for. He flaunts his me-first attitude more than most players. Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko equal great hitters and class. Manny? Great hitter and a bum. None of that has to do with steroids which appears to be what you're freaking out about. And again, if you are so opposed to it, then burn all your Sox gear and stop watching the team and baseball in general. So many players used it that its stupid to hate the 1 or 2 that got caught and not the hundreds more that are still playing and did it too.
  6. Also, he isn't on steroids right now....so what difference does it make what he did 2 years ago?
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) I think I'm like Balta. I love the White Sox. If I cheer for him, I will feel dirty doing so. He worded it best. This is a disgrace. I just hope we have him one month. And if we fall out of the race, which seems inevitable, how the f*** are you gonna feel about Manny when he's not into playing for the White Sox with us 7 back?? Manny is a cheater. I don't want him. So you turning in your WS gear from 05 then? Bout at 99% chance at least 1 if not more on that team were on the juice at some point.
  8. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:50 PM) How did the media know anything? Kenny and Co are the masters of controlled leaks. The same way they KNEW LBJ was coming to Chicago - "sources" making it up.
  9. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:36 PM) l #Dodgers 5 back in WC race; might have prompted claim, or claims. Teams daring Ned Colletti to give up Manny while in race. #WhiteSox #MLB half a minute ago via web That doesn't make sense. If an NL team claimed him, then they wouldn't get rid of him, if the wanted him to get traded nobody should have put in a claim.
  10. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) I've said for a while I dont think the Sox need to add a bat. What gave that away? Consistently losing close games because we can't hit?
  11. Linebrink + Hoffmen!!! Lets get the band back together
  12. I figured this shist team out. Just get drunk and barely watch. I feel fine right now
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) You are either being intentionally pedantic to make some sort of point, or you actually believe that all things in baseball can be directly and clearly demonstrated statistically. Which is it? But how can you claim he's a "slacker" when he's one of the best hitters in the game still? If he didn't "slack" would he hit 60 homers and 200 RBIs every year?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) You're right, you and greg and others NEVER speak in absolutes. Bunting with a runner on first, no outs just is not working at all. I cannot believe there is anyone still trying to argue otherwise. I just try to have a wee bit of common sense and not have a coronary every time ozzie speaks. How is having a runner in scoring position with
  15. So just wondering....since most seem to speak in absolutes around here (as long as its negative of course), what happens when Alexei gets the bunt down and then Teahen hits a double? Or does that only work the other way around where anytime a sac bunt is called the hitter would 100% have gotten a base hit?
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) There is zero chance that anyone risks him accepting arbitration. Yeah not a chance in hell he gets arbitration. Doesn't he have a clause where its blocked anyway?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) 3 separate innings, with the top of the innings taking probably 20 minutes each = time for a new reliever. Something clearly was not right with Thornton in that last inning, as his first fastball was only 92 mph. It was a bad decision at the time, and now with Thornton being unavailable, it's an even worse decision. Which he had done before. Is it written somewhere that he'll spontaneously combust at 3 innings? I'll ask again, who should have pitched? Linebrink? I wouldn't trust Linebrink to pitch in my softball league. At that point, it was a huge game. You leave your best (and at the only time only decent) reliever in there. Starters go on 3 days rest in big games, sometimes a reliever has to step up and go. I'm just sick of the absolutes on this forum. "well if he took him out before, he doesn't get injured" "if he pinch hits there we win the game". Buncha bulls***. If Thornton doesn't throw those extra 3 devastating pitches he doesn't get hurt? Stupid. If Putz doesn't throw 2 more pitches his knee doesn't get hurt? Bulls***. Normal injuries don't f***ing work like that. If he got hit in the head with a line drive, then you could maybe say that, not if its a normal "wear and tear" injury that would have happened the next time out.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 03:18 PM) Sweet Lou would look awesome as our skipper next season. Hoping thats green, cause that is comical
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:58 PM) Get him an MRI, and then place him on the DL. Hopefully Threets is ready to return. That decision to pitch him 3 separate innings on Tuesday is absolutely ridiculous. I love it. Who the f*** would have pitched? Who did you trust in the pen THEN (i.e. not Sale). Who? Linebrink? He was going for the win and it failed, I'd take Thornton with 15 pitches going into the inning over anyone else in the 'pen that night. Thornton threw 18 pitches and it didn't even sniff his longest outing of the season. Please find some other random occurrence to b**** about with Ozzie.
  20. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:55 AM) The guy drove in 6 freaking runs tonight. PUT HIM ON OZZIE YOU IDIOT. ah, there it is. Was waiting to see the first post blaming ozzie instead of the pitchers who can't pitch
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) Is it just me or is the WGN feed coming in as SD? Same here. Just got my new TV too and was looking forward to some HD sox. Bastards
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) Because the results of this one particular season is a direct correlation to which one is the better manager. or how stupid it is to stress out so much about the manager. Either one
  23. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) I'm amazed by how many people who still think the Angels are any good. They're not. Bu bu bu but they have Mike f***ing Sciocia and we have stupid ol' Ozzie!!!! They have to be good, he's such an incredible manager!!
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) I'm sorry, but in the first game, there were two terrible managerial decisions made. Letting Kotsay hit vs a LHP in the 5th, and keeping Thornton in for a 3rd inning. Yeah Kotsay def cost us that game since guys like PK and Rios certainly didn't kill us in RISP situations. And with the depth of our bullpen, I can't believe he left the only guy we have left who A. can get people out and B. wasn't playing college ball 4 weeks ago in there. What an idiot
