QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 01:46 PM) If people are saying its a huge crime that he was sent down, they are implying that he's near starting material. If we all agree he's a defensive replacement OF, then there should be no crime that a team would keep a PR instead of him. People are saying he should be starting somewhere else. Well we've had an opening at his position for awhile now. If he cant get it done here, it wont happen in the NL either. But we don't need just a PR. We need a f***ing defensive replacement for our disgrace of an outfield in the 8th/9th. And who fits the category of a decent runner and a rock solid defender? It aint Wise.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) Sorry BA, you've played everyday for long stretches and still couldnt produce, I dont think its playing time as much as its your approach, your swing and your strike zone judgement. Be happy you can have a career as a 4th OF'er in the majors. There in lies the problem...he should be a 4th OF.....the WHITE SOX 4th OF. He should not have been demoted over wise, that's really all there is to it.

"White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen felt that he could do more things with Wise, but the team also risked losing him because Wise was out of options. When asked Monday if he thought Anderson needed a change of scenery, Guillen responded that it was time for Anderson "to start playing better." Ah, I love you Oz, but this is ridiculous.

Black Jack McDowell on tonight's loss and closers

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) There's the very legit argument stating that pitchers are actually more fragile now because their arms get weaker and not as conditioned because they are babied through the minors and their first couple years in the bigs. Hell, now the vast majority of pitchers get babied no matter how proven they are. In high school and college, pitchers throw a ton, and I personally believe that builds up arm strength. Unless you have very poor mechanics that are conducive to arm injuries, a well trained and conditioned pitchers arm should have no problem throwing 130 pitches every 5th or 6th day. But once you start limiting them to only 70 pitches per outing their first year in rookie ball, and so on, I believe thats when you lose arm strength. Kerry Wood? And I don't buy that they were "more conditioned" in the past. The old guys would smoke, get drunk and eat s***ty food every night. Never worked out. Never had trainers. Minor injuries now were career ending back then. If anything, they just don't pitch through pain as much. There's no way the old timers could throw 150 pitches every couple days and not be hurting. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 12:17 AM) Bobby’s pitched erratically this entire month, he blew a game that we should have won yesterday, boos are absolutely understandable. From ignorant fans that don't follow the team, yes. Its funny talking to "fans" that watch 2-3 games a month then want to talk shop about the team. "Many Paulie is the most overrated player in the history of the Sox" etc.

he's in a slump just like every other player in the history of baseball gets into from time to time. Thats it. Nothing more, nothing less.

t-minus 15 minutes before this site goes into complete meltdown mode. Time to close it for a couple days -
GEOFF BLUM all we need.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 21, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) Wise is a decent runner and base stealer, a little better than BA in both categories, especially base stealing. With Q battling the PF, five of our nine regulars (JD, PK, JT, AJP, Q) need to be pinch run for in a game tying or game winning situation. He sucks, yes, but I think Wise's importance as a PR is being undervalued. Its more important to have a solid 4th OF than one who is slightly faster. Wise isn't Ricky F'n Henderson, being 2 steps faster than BA and 10 steps worse in every other facet of the game does not warrant a spot on the roster.

I'd do the Peavy deal, nothing more.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) that was a pitiful ass swing by bartlett Yeah, not like it was a nasty pitch on a full count or anything. -
I wanna keep a running total of how many outs/runs Pods/Wise will cost us in CF from the 8th inning on.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) I actually think Dotel can close games the rest of the year. If they really need to clear salary. I'm wondering if Jenks being involved in a deal to Toronto may work? Especially if we take on Rolens contract. Jenks, Ramirez, Poreda, Richard plus 2 more prospects for Halladay and Rolen. The Jays get there SS, an expeirenced successful closer and 2 young pitchers with high cielings while shedding about $20 million in payroll for next season. Good christ what a horrible trade that would be.

QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:05 PM) If you thought the Colon post was funny, then no, you wouldn't think I was funny in person. Thanks for clearing that up.

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 02:44 AM) I get what you're saying, but COME ON, man! Every season I watch it seems to get worse. Last year seeing Justin Morneau pitched to with 2 outs and first base open with a narrow lead had me rolling. Seeing Linebrink serve up 4 runs to the Cubs was just f***ing retarded. So I ask again, who cares? Or actually, who do you want instead? That's the whole point of the argument...you think Ozzie is a horrible manager but then refuse to answer who you'd want instead or even acknowledge the fact that every manager makes mistakes. In his 5 years, he's got 2 division titles, one ring, and only one bad season (that you can't blame him for anyway). That's more than enough for me, I'll take Ozzie any day over most managers who don't really seem to give a s*** how their team does.

QUOTE (JoeCredeYes @ Jul 20, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Was this post necessary? You must be quite the funny guy in person
-
QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) Ah! Changing the subject! What other managers could/would have done has NOTHING to do with Ozzie. I don't give a DAMN who else would have led us to 2005's WC title, much less even THOUGHT about it because it has NOTHING to do with the subject! Thanks for proving my point further. I stand corrected. I don't think he's really changing the subject....more of just pointing out how stupid it is to b**** about mistakes when there isn't a manager in the history of the game who hasn't made them. So he's made some mistakes, so has every player/coach/gm/etc in every sport in the history of mankind...at least Oz has a ring for his troubles. Who gives a f***.

Rosenthal says we could be interested in Rios.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) See, there's a difference between getting good Royals players and bad Royals players. It just so happens that we've acquired a lot of bad ones before. They were even bad on the Royals... You're telling me you wouldn't want Joakim Soria, Zack Greinke, Mark Teahen, or David DeJesus? Those are guys who were actually successful on the Royals. Didn't Macdoofus make the all-star team as a royal? -
Another good thing about Guillen, he doesn't abuse his starters

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) Dont they assume the remainder of the contract if they cut him? Sheff did not have near the contract Maggs has going for him right now Ah maybe, I assumed if they cut him then his vesting option doesn't kick in but knowing Boras, there is probably a clause where it automatically does if he's cut. -

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Boras is going to push the Tigers to trade him so that option gets vested, that guy freaks out when this stuff happens No idea why they don't just cut his ass at this point. They cut Shef...with 499 homers....really? You couldn't wait a week for him to hit 500? -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 01:33 AM) If... Let's see if the 2nd coming can survive the 2nd half this year first. Either way, I like our uber number 3 hitter for now, as well as hopefully the future. If....Dye has to keep it up too, which remains to be seen. I still would have rather had an extra 5 mil and Jackson cheap for the next few years.
-
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 01:19 AM) I'll take Dye myself. Abreu = Dye - HR + SB - 5 million$. If we could have gotten Jackson and signed Abreu, that would have been a monster move.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 03:34 PM) I think that if he can be had for a reasonable price it makes a lot of sense. He could immediately start at 3B and allow Beckham to move to 2B, pushing Getz into a UTIL role that he is well suited for. He can also spell PK, CQ, and JD, giving the Ozzie a lot more lineup flexibility. Teahen could be a solid run producer in this lineup. Teahen buys another year for Morel/Viciendo and adds more pop at 2B by putting Beckham there. How is Getz "well suited" to a UTIL role when he can only play 1 position? Thats what Nix is for.

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jul 13, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) (speculation) Teahan would play third when the Sox trade Ramirez for Halladay. Beckham to short. No thanks
