  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) I'm not sure its legal to go around dry humping people. It is if the guy can kill you with his bare hands and is insane
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) I think this is a big part of not hating the deal, but seriously, Pena is mediocre. Allen could have been in a bigger package or certainly netted you a better overall player than a 27-year-old reliever with average numbers. and you know this......how?
  3. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Don't be a Cub fan - you have to give talent to get talent. Why would the Jays trade Halladay for an unproven starter (Richard) and a minor-league hitter (Allen)? They have to compete with the Yanks and Red Sox. If I'm Ricciardi, I want a major league starter in return that isn't some team's rookie 5th starter........ that's all I'm saying..... Then you'd be the GM who couldn't trade Holladay. Yes, you trade talent for talent, but 23 yo talent and 33 yo talent are not equal. There are other factors involved than just pure talent, and trading a future ace @ 1/10 the salary and under control for years for an aging ace with about 10,000,000 IP and a sizeable salary + extenstion would be stupid as s***. This is about money for the BJ's. They are bleeding money and will not be able to resign him anyway, so why not dump his salary for a couple good prospects while you still can.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) I really think an offer giving the Jays two major league ready starting pitchers might be enough to tempt them if we include some potential from the minor league level. I know they want to ditch Wells or Rios, but they need to cut cash in a hurry, and no one will want those player without the Jays kicking in some cash, which they won't do. Richard + Allen = Wells + Halliday + little money
  5. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) he's the best pitcher in baseball - wouldn't they want one of our STARTERS that isnt Richard, ie Danks or Floyd? Allen and Danks? not a chance in hell you trade a 23 yo Danks for a 33 yo Halladay. I wouldn't even do that straight up, let alone with Allen.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 6, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) If we don't want to give up Hudson, Beckham, Flowers, Danks, or Viciedo, we have no chance. I hope you don't mean all together, that would be the dumbest trade in the history of sports.
  7. Wrong side of 30 + huge IP every year. I wouldn't be comfortable selling the farm for him
  8. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 07:56 PM) Also, it's really nice to see Quentin back in the dugout. Been in the dugout for weeks
  9. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 10:59 PM) I understand the point, but I don't buy this argument for ONE SECOND. He was good enough to play April 6th and proved it in ST. So you'd be willing to sacrifice a cheap year of him so he could have been in the lineup 2 months earlier? Thats genius!! I want you as GM!
  10. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) You all are missing the real J Dye. Listen to the baseball commentators and they will tell you also that Dye is a solid defender and has a great throwing arm Now I can't tell if you're being serious or not....I really hope not.
  11. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Qwerty I respectfully and totally disagree. Dye is avery good defensive RF'er and has shown it. Making a diving catch because you are 9 steps too slow to get to the ball in the first place does not make you a "very good" fielder. He has made some good plays crashing into the wall/robbing homers, but other than that he is slower than me.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 02:59 PM) Feel free to add something to the discussion. There has been plenty of Soxtalk discussion about where Beckham needs to be, 3B, SS, and 2B, and I agree with OKB, Gordon should be allowed to settle in to one position and unfortunately it knocked out another young player(Fields) from his natural position because he was slumping. What was it that you added? Nobody has ever said move Beckham this year. Every single post says "for the future" and they are all correct. My "addition" was that there is no point in arguing over something that doesn't exist (in this case, that Beckham should be moved NOW). Understand now?
  13. QUOTE (ObamaKnowsBest @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) Does anyone honestly think they would move Beckham in his rookie season, when he's already out of position, to another position that he's not used to. To me any discussion of Beckham moving from third base comes next season in spring training. We have Getz and Nix to play 2B this season and Fields had his shot for this year and didn't come through. I think for the rest of the season Beckham will stay and the left side of the infield and the other young guys who a have some experience at different positions will be moved around. Its funny how people think we brought Beckham up too early, but aren't afraid to put him in any position. I know he's god-like, but let the kid settle in Feel free to point out any post that said "OMG, move Beckham to 2b TONIGHT!!!!!"
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 01:54 PM) Depends on what JD is dealt for. You bring back a starting pitcher and suddenly Poreda/Richard become a lot more expendable. We also save a good chunk of money. A trade for Holliday becomes entirely reasonable before the deadline, and I'd imagine Oakland would take either of those guys for him right now if we paid the rest of his salary. Signing Holliday next offseason would work too. Josh Fields could be a legit outfield option right now if he can hit like he has the past week. Making a play for a 1 year rental, like Abreu, is plausible next offseason. Chone Figgins is available next offseason and you have to expect he's an option for the Sox. Podsednik on one corner, Q on the other, and a platoon in CF is passable if you get a good enough pitcher. This, of course, is why we're saying we're not sellers right now unless some other team offers the moon. Because its silly to screw with a team that is 4 games out at this point in the season. Josh fields is NOT an OF option.
  15. QUOTE (Special K @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 08:28 AM) What really bothers me though about this all, is that I think a good majority of us knew Anderson should play over Wise, that MacDougal, Lillibridge, and Broadway had no business on the roster, that Colon is finished, and that Josh Fields is not a starting 3rd baseman. My question is why is it so hard for Guillen to see all this. I know a couple of those guys cost us at least 1 or 2 wins. I know Pods has been a savior that no one and expected and you need to go through a little trial error, but if Guillen/KW realized all these things in the beginning of the year, like I think many people here saw, I think we would be sitting atop the division. You knew Fields wasn't a starter before this year? Really? The 25 homers in 100 games was just a fluke? Would you have started the year with Beckham on the team?
  16. I'd like to see one person actually man up and stop watching then. If you don't believe they have a chance, turn the tv off and stop coming to this site. What the hell is the point?
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) Pujols just hit an absolute bomb off of Randy Johnson. every god damn team in the league passed on him....401 times. I don't understand that one bit, did he gain 80lb's of muscle after being drafted? How did that happen?
  18. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) Getz plays a little third, so if we did move Bacon to 2B/SS and needed someone at the hot corner, Getz can play there What the hell would be the point of that? The point of moving Bacon to 2nd is to free up 3b for a power hitter who is sketchy defensively and make 2b a premium spot.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 03:25 PM) I think this is an issue that is till playing itself out. We have at least a couple more players in the Minors that may be here within a year or so and then we will be trying to figure out how they all fit in this line up. Danks in CF? Viciedo at 3B? Allen at 1B? Ramirez at SS? Getz at 2B? Beckham at 3B-SS or 2B? Maybe Getz becomes the super sub? To early to be sure on this yet. Maybe somebody gets traded? Any way you look at it, this is a FANTASTIC problem to have When was the last time, for any Chicago team, we had this type of a problem? I love it
  20. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) I'm so sick and tired of this argument. Fine, yeah, he'll be a premium hitter there. But how the f*** does that help the team if Getz is the better option to have in the lineup instead of Fields? I think Beckham will have to move eventually to the MI because I don't think he's a good enough 3B, but right now, you do what's best for the team. And honestly, with Getz being pretty clutch for us lately, having him in the lineup instead of Fields helps the team. And as i've said 10x before, I'm not talking about TONIGHTS f***ing game, I'm talking about the future. Getz is great and all, but Bacon at 2b = gold mine while Bacon at 3b = pretty solid player. Dayan, Allen, Danks2, TCQ, Mitchell (hopefully), Flowers (possibly)....where are they all going to play? They are mostly corner OF or corner IF, you don't keep a guy who can play a perfectly good 2B from blocking a power hitter with limited defensive options because Getz is "grindy". Now if Getz can start hitting .270+ and steal some bases, fine. But I don't see the point in slobbering over an 8th place hitter batting .240.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Goodell leaning towards indefinite suspensions for Vick, Burress. May be willing to act on suspending Plaxico before prosecutors get their acts together. Do not understand that at all. Vick served his time in jail and effectively an NFL ban for 2 years, I think thats about enough. And Burress was alredy suspended/cut by the Giants
  22. I'd prefer Beckham at 2b where he'd be at a premium position for the way he can hit. Let Fields/Nix toil at 3B until hopefully Vicedo figures it out or we get a deal done.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 09:06 PM) Great line. If Lexi is out, it might be worth doing it tomorrow though, just for grins. The pitch hit him in the head?? WTF. Concussion? He looked to be alright, just shaken up a bit. It did barley miss hitting him right in the neck which would have been bad news I imagine (caught all helmet)
  24. So you want to move Alexei, in a spot where he finally started hitting. And then move Gordon, in a spot where he is hitting finally and also sparking the bottom of our order? Why?
  25. QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) I've been away lately, and feel like I'm missing out on an inside joke. Can I assume that Beckham's walk-up music is that old song by The Outfield? If so, is there a particular story behind that, perhaps one in keeping with his "Slayer" nickname? Thanks Says he digs the song...and that the honey's would finish the verse/chorus when he stepped in the box, they would play it at bars he went to. I'm sure he owes a good amount of "action" he's gotten to The Outfield.
