QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 12:36 PM) Okay so make it 26 roster spots. It's dumb this isn't a thing already. Bigger roster = better product on the field.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2017 -> 11:22 AM) The “build equity” quote was terrible. Anyone should listen to that and try and explain to me why I should give this team one minute of my attention WTF does it even mean? -
QUOTE (Quin @ Oct 18, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Yeah, but Jim Thome and Frank Thomas are more fun to watch hit. Yeah I would 10000% want to watch some dudes who can't catch a ball to save their lives mash dingers vs. some pitcher who barely knows how to hold a bat get a hold of one 3x a year.

Yankees having effectively 4 closers on most other teams in the same bullpen is crazy.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Oct 17, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) I'd be shocked if Kopech isn't up by mid season and I'm guessing Eloy is up before September as well. Hansen I can definitely see being a September call up too. Yep, no chance Kopech & Eloy stay down much longer than the extra-year-of-control-cutoff point if they both stay on pace from where they ended this year.

I don't see them ever giving up games, let alone that + other massive changes all at once. Also what happens to the DH rule?

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) Right but we've long ago established that he already decided to do exactly that. My point is that if he was going to come over already and accept $4mm instead of hold out for $200mm, then the fact that he is having ankle surgery shouldn't make it any less likely. He isn't going to get lower offers this year because of the injury. His earning potential is already capped at 5-10% of his market value -- no team is going to be like "well we were going to give you $5mm, but now that you're hurt, we're only gonna go to $2mm." How long is the recovery time from the surgery? If he's going to end up missing most of next season why not just wait it out at that point? -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 12, 2017 -> 09:19 AM) Please explain why you purposely ignored the bolded in your response to TheFutureIsNear. It's pretty clear you ignored that part and used the idea as an excuse to complain, again. The OP suggested NOT trading top pitching prospects to acquire the young 22 year old 3B in Franco. You do realize the Sox traded Gio Gonzalez not once but twice to bolster their hitting, right? Once for Thome and a second time for Swisher. Sometimes teams trade from a strength to bolster a weakness. Call the whaaaambulance. Greg can't name a single player in the minor leagues and therefore views them all on the same level. To him there is 0 difference between say Kopech and Puckett because both were traded for from a "despicable tanking team"
-
Yankees Timeline: -Trade 2 relievers in a lost season for for 2 top prospects (neither of which even played in the series) -Resign 1 of those relievers anyway -Trade for 2 more shutdown relievers -Beat the other reliever you traded last year and move on to the ALCS after a 6 month rebuild I hate it

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 11, 2017 -> 03:19 PM) Can't imagine it'll affect his decision much. He doesn't stand to lose any money from posting after surgery. If he doesn't wait till he's 25 we're talking tens of millions in lost money. -
QUOTE (ron883 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 11:57 PM) It's a shame we decided to trade Chris Sale and rebuild. Some of us fans hate losing this much and would rather see a fringe playoff team that may get to the wild card game and then get beaten down when Sale starts it Define "fringe playoff team". Do you mean

QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 10:15 PM) He absolutely lacks the composure of Randy Johnson - imagine if he could develop that poise and maturity... Mercy!! I was browsing for prop bets on the odds he would bean someone after the 3rd dinger
-
Helps accept dealing away the best pitcher in modern franchise history. Also, all his dumb antics over the years made me not really like him in a way like say Buehrle
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 05:25 PM) Sale is gassed. Read some story this year that Sale went away from the White Sox plan the last couple years of keeping his effort lower so he'd last longer into the season.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 04:51 PM) Yeah I think this is the compromise. Bryce Harper: 10y/400m with option to opt out annually
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 05:18 PM) Think that may be a tad-premature, but certainly not an impressive debut for Sale. Baseball is a brutal game. Have an incredible season and Sale will mostly be remembered for this start. 1st post-season jitters for sure, but I always quietly thought he would get way too amped up for the playoffs and get torched. But hey, Kershaw has been trash in most of his playoff starts too.
-
Been saying for months that Sale will get lit up in October, seems to be the case.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 11:29 AM) He'll be 29 when he hits free agency so he can still be in line for another great pay day from a contender (assuming he doesn't completely fall off a cliff). For sure, he'll still get 200+...but he coulda been a FA right now as a 25 year old and wrote his own contract. Imagine a 15 year 500m deal with opt outs every year or 2 so he could escape a s*** team if needed.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 4, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) I read that the Phillies only have like $7 mill committed to next year's payroll with very few arbitration guys. They will be players in that 18/19 class (unless they hold off and wait for Philly sports fan Mike Trout to be a free agent). Trout really "screwed" (quotes because he still made 100m) himself with that extension. Stuck on a garbage team that will never make it out of the ALDS whenever they manage to stumble into the playoffs. Wasted almost entire prime of the best player in a generation.
-
I don't think it ever gets topped in terms of talent + contract, unprecedented. Also part of the reason its so hard to judge the trade because you could argue he was worth even more than what we got technically...but no team would pay that much. Johan Santana is the most recent one I can think of but he didn't have anywhere close to the contract Sale did.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 07:10 PM) If teams like the Dodgers and Yankees get beneath the cap this offseason so that they're not paying the multi-year offender tax in 2019, I think you're underestimating how many there will be. Then they're not gonna resign their own guys that will be up for 300+ deals a couple years later?

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 03:38 PM) Jason Goff on the WSCR right now claiming the Bulls are talking about extending Gar but also Paxson possibly firing him? Even Bernstein doesn’t know what to make of Goff’s comments. Regardless, the thought of Gar getting an extension is beyond terrifying. Such a terrible franchise. Crazy I hope FS1 does a marketing campaign here like they did in NYC
