QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) As happy as I would be Q going down in a meaningless spring training game. And one more thing, why do we follow teams? Why do baseball players play? As fans, the ultimate prize in any sport is the championship tropy/banner. What do we get out of that? We certainly don't receive money from it. We don't receive a ring, or anything. All a championship, in any sport, any league, is is a symbol of pride. The same goes for a ring. Are you saying, a local team's pride is more important than pride on a worldwide basis? Yes, I am. I don't care about this WBCrap. Will A-rod play for USA or Dominican, OMG!!!! Will he won't he will he won't he?!!! Who cares, I sure as hell don't. As was stated earlier, save for a few Japan players who have contracts equivalent to being chained in a basement, we already have the WBC....every damn October. The best players are all already in the MLB, I don't need to see a guy who can't even speak his country's language running around with a Dominican/Mexican/Venezuelan/etc flag on his back like he's some hero to his "country". The difference between the WBC meaningless games and ST meaningless games is that the WBC is not necessarily while ST is. I want the players on my team to play as few meaningless games as possible, not more.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Again, I am happy guys like Danks, Quentin, etc are getting recognition as among the best baseball players. Would you still be happy if Q goes down with an injury during a meaningless "pride" exhibition game?

QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Jan 19, 2009 -> 09:04 PM) I, uh... respectfully disagree. By...ignoring statistics? Whatever floats your boat I guess, but I'd rather have a 95mph Bobby with lower stats in every category but SO and S's than the 100mph version.

Freddy Garcia speculation (Closed - Garcia Signs W/Mets)

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 11, 2009 -> 11:33 AM) How pitiful is our rotation that you trust Garcia as a 4th over Marquez ? Now imagine going into the season that way . Hello 100 losses. really? I didn't think losing Big-Game Javi would cost us26 wins. News to me. -
hey, makes for a better "sell" than promoting it as "Awesome team destroys all competition and wins championship"

bobble heads, bobble heads, bobble heads. Pretty sad that they only had 1 last year.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) Isn't he busy enough? God, Cooper has become quite the tired cliche. Pff yeah, tell me about it. People talk like he helped develop an ace and a 17 game winner or something. What a loser. -
Angels May Consider Trading For Dye or Paulie
jenksycat replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
since when has PK's trade value sky rocketed? Last time I checked he was a slow 1B coming off 2 bad years with a large contract and a no-trade-clause -
No long-term extension talks for Bobby Jenks

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 08:49 AM) The wisest decision this team could make would be to move Bobby for a couple of prospects or find the most interested suitor. If Kenny wants to win me over again this winter, he will trade Jenks for a decent return that some will label not enough. I like Bobby, but he's a 1-inning closer. He's one of the best closers in the game, cheap, young.....why trade him? Think the Twins would trade us Nathan for a couple measly prospects? Maybe we coulda got Rivera a couple years ago the same way. I'll never understand why people think the closer is pointless. When playoff bids come down to a 163rd game, I want a guy with the ability to get 3 outs in the 9th all year. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 09:56 PM) I never said stats are meaningless. I said I wouldn't pass judgement on a players ability and project his future performance based on numbers alone. Also, he said that he saw him multiple times not just once. But if you want to make extreme arguement while calling me irrational, I would take someone seeing a player once in the minors over versus looking only at the numbers. If i had only those two choices. Heres why. By watching someones mechanics and how he carries himself I can get a better idea of his future projection. Looking at numbers I can't see his mechanics, confidence and projectability. He can go 0-4 and have hit the ball hard or see that he has the confidence to overcome the adversity. You don't see that in numbers. If I am going to make a judgement on a player I watch them multiple times and look at the numbers but lean more towards what I see. What team are you the scout for? -
QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 11:32 PM) There is some truth to that. Imagine the other side. The Sox boppers are going through their .180 slumps with more strike outs than hits going into the Metrodome. Gomez slaps a ball that hops 20 feet over Cabrera's head. He steals second on our staff's inability to hold a runner and AJ's arm not being able to work a miracle. Piranha number two hitter {name not required, twinkies are interchangeable) advances the runner somehow. The Sox battle to get Mauer out somehow and they are almost out of the inning and work Morneau to a full count. He singles just out of the reach of somebody making it one to nothing. There has to be a psychological "here we go again" effect. Meanwhile our guys grip that bat tighter an hope for a homerun (thereby making it much less likely) because it is unlikely that they will be able to string together the FOUR hits it's going to require to get somebody's load around the bases. KW, all I want for Christmas is a major league lead off hitter. Yeah they did all that.....and finished 1 game behind the lowly Sox anyway. For whatever reason, when the twins suck ass for a month or strikeout 400 times in a game it doesn't mean the same thing as it does for the Sox

QUOTE (Ron @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) Comcast just played a clip of Ozzie from Vegas and he addressed Swish: Yep, so instead of giving him a legit shot we got Betemit and future cy-young Marquez. Pretty awesome.

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:40 AM) I have no problem trading an older guy, saving money, and signing a FA with the money saved. I don't even have a big problem trading an older guy, getting young talent, and not spending all that much. But we should get more than a former (keyword there is former) #1 prospect whose stuff has died the last two seasons. "should" being the key word there. I'm about 99% positive K-dubbs wouldn't turn down a better deal. And "former" was also a term associated with Floyd....who pitched more MLB innings than HB. And earlier posts said is fastball lost about 1 mph while he was hurt + working on secondary stuff. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:16 AM) It's a salary dump for a young guy whose stuff has deteriorated drastically the last two years, and his hits and k/9 ratios reflect that. I have no problem trading Dye, but to get only this in return is simply inexcuseable. And whats wrong with trading an older guy in his last year for a former #1 prospect in baseball who we have been proven to 'fix' + signing a FA with the money saved? -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) I have given Kenny my fair (and unfair) share of criticism, but one thing I have always done is defend his trades. This trade, however, would be absolutely indefensible. How so? We get 11+ mil off the books (which hopefully = signing a FA) and a fixer-upper top pitching prospect for 6 years. You can effectively replace most of Dye's production with a cheaper FA. Dye also isn't getting any younger and I honestly don't know how much longer his legs will last him. I'm all for this trade as long as it also means we sign (one of) Abreu, Furcal, Dunn, etc. -

QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:34 PM) Twins rotation right now is at top of divsion due the consistency they have and it showed last season. I didnt think twins rotation at begining was all that great. But, they got some good looking kids in that rotation. Detriot right now is a mess. But positive for them they will have gallaraga, verlander and hopefully for them bonderman. Royals still devloping but davies and greinke are real deal. Clev looks to try and develop young starters with westbrook and lee. The feeling that the Twins are some godly team is only felt by us because we have to hear over and over how "grindy and piranha like" they are. They played like crap down the stretch and had a ridiculously (ie lucky) high BA with RISP and 2 outs. I will still say the "kids" in our rotation/system are better than theirs. -

QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:23 PM) With confidence, I could say that the Twins are better than us. They don't have any questions in their rotation like we do. They also have a better outfield of Cuddyer/Young, Gomez, and Span compared to Quentin, Owens/Anderson, and ??? (if Dye is in fact traded). really? The twins are solid 1-5 rotation, huh? Thats news to me, I'll put our 1-3 against theirs any day of the week. -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 06:08 PM) Second base is not a place of need for us right now, we have plenty of options. So we don't need a $10 million second baseman when we have cheap options that are solid. Who? The 5 guys who have about 15 MLB AB's between them?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) Since when did 3.5 years become the lifespan of an all-star caliber closer? Last time I checked Bobby wasn't 35. The decreasing velocity piece has been beaten to death. Seems like Bobby is the only pitcher in baseball that is required to throw 100 MPH to get guys out. 92 or 93 MPH and getting guys out just isn't sexy enough. Again, Bobby isn't untouchable. If you can get a good return for him I say go for it. But to say trade him because he might break down (when he's showed absolutely no signs of breaking down) or because his velocity is down (when he's more than proven he can get the job done without hitting triple digits) are not legitimate reasons. As far as the big raise goes, and? You don't trade guys just because you might have to eventually pay them. Yeah, if TCQ has another stellar season we should really explore the market for him. I mean he showed signs of breaking down with that wrist, and he will get a ton of money in a few years.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 04:43 PM) I'd rather have Charlie Villanueva. Bulls need that post up offense and Skiles doesn't seem to want to use it. The bulls got everything they need: A ROY PG Ben "Chucker" Gordan Tyrus "18ft Jumper" Thomas

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 07:38 PM) Who plays 1b? Swisher

Honestly, even if KW doesn't make any more moves/signings, we didn't really lose much. -Swisher did nothing last year (although I still disagree with the trade) -Javy blows and it shouldn't be impossible to get something near his productivity

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) Abreu wants three years. I for one don't want to pay him $15M for his Age 35-Age 37 seasons, not when Dunn (29 next year) is available. I also want 1 million a year working part time, doesn't mean I'll get it. 2 years 16-18 mill for Abreu would be a good deal. Who knows with KW, maybe he's developing a plan for a Furcal + Abreu, thatd be solid
