I read in the Sox news that Ozzie wore a "Paws Up" shirt during an interview. Anyone have a picture of it?

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 10:15 PM) Because it's a question that has no exact answer. If you think that OC was the only player we could have gotten for Garland, and that there were no other players available to get for our 3 minor league package, then there's no point in even discussing the situation. Unless you work in the Sox front office, or the FO of any baseball team, you don't know s*** either. No point. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) You could look up the meaning of the word "most." Because according to you, its one or two people out of many. ah, well that was a pretty weak comeback. Didn't make much sense. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:09 PM) Fixed and Yes, plenty of times actually. And I smell an 8th inning rally for us. The first part was sarcasm since most want him to be our closer. And Id argue the second part as I don't remember any situation where Thorn came in with runners on and -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) Great victory with the wild new lineup. My question to you though is ... Is Dotel worth the money?? The bad Dotel is quite annoying; the good Dotel is a delight. I would gladly take a moderatly decent Dotel over what he currently is: Lights out, "nintendo" stuff or the worst pitcher ever. Find some god damned middle ground man.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) Well Thornton has never been a guy who is way worse against righties though. The SLG is a bit high against righties, i will say that. OBP near the same for R and L batters Also righties SLG is higher against Jenks than Thornton, for whatever its worth. Everyone keeps arguing this about how good Bobby is. I dont disagree w/ that. But no one is addressing my point that he would have so much trade value that he'd allow us to retool. Instead we'll just get older, when we should be building more around youngsters CQ,ARam,Gavin,Danks. To win now and later. Who else do we move, unless it's all to be solved with FA spending? Why can't Bobby be part of that "re-tooling"? Why do you get rid of what a majority of teams are in desperate need of? What happened to the Mets, Tigers, Indians, and on and on and on that lost/never had a good closer? They lose games that they should win. You don't trade the f***ing anchor of your bullpen just to say "hey we aren't old anymore!!!" We have 4 decently reliable starters. A future all-star 2b/SS, an MVP in LF, Thorton as a setup guy, a bright future for another good 2b/SS guy, Swish at 1B, etc. The thing I see this team doing is trading BA in the offseason since they seem to despise him for whatever reason. Signing a middle infield guy and looking for a veteran 5th starter.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 09:53 PM) It's time to acknowledge Thornton as the best guy in this pen, and I wouldnt putting him at the top of a short list of in house potential closer candidates. This isnt knee jerk b/c i have past posts suggesting a Jenks move. You get good value for this guy while he comes off a year like this w/ great ERA but poor K stats. And if we dont get value thru this, I dont know how else we'd do it thru trade. I suppose Dye would be a possibility but i think he's too much to give up for what we'd get back. Yeah, Thorndog has never given up a hit/run in a big situation or a big HR late in the game. So your option is to trade on of the better closers in the game and move thorton there....and then what? Bring up the Booner to get out tough lefties? Maybe we can get Cotts and Ardsama back too.

well, i guess its the s***ty OD not the Cy Young. Its one or the other, nothing in the middle.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 10, 2008 -> 08:59 PM) I just opened my White Sox season ticket holder box-o-stuff. There is a Nick Swisher bobblehead in there. I handed it to my wife and said "get this f***ing thing away from me". Her response, "big Swisher fan ah." wait, do you like swisher?

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) We can't depend on other teams to follow out demands. We're a game ahead, and if we blow it no one is to blame but ourselves. With that series in Minnesota, even if this team was completely healthy you know they'd enter with a "Minnesota is unstoppable at home" mindset that has been manifested time and time again by Hawk/Guillen/media. It's almost as if they want to make sure that series matter. And hey, what better way to assure that then losing 1 1/2 games in the standings in one day! Missed the point of my post. We were going to need help regardless, no matter what anyone says. We just will need more than originally planned. I think the biggest series won't be the Twins one, but the one before it. We have 3 vs. KC and they have 4 against the Rays on the road (who should also be in a tight race). If we can do what we should, sweep KC and TB does what it should and take at least 3 at home, the we can go into that Twins series a few up (if we hang in until then)
-
ehh it'll definitely be tougher now. We just need more help now than we would have before. Tampa Bay needs to get their s*** together, Lee needs to pitch in the Cle series, and we need to not choke in the s***tra-dome. That TB series is huge. It should be big for both teams and the Rays need to do f***ing work and get 3 of 4.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 04:52 PM) Based on the fact that Thome, Konerko, Dye and Cabrerra can be blasted on this board and all have out produced Nick Swisher this year and in their career. Yet everyone loves Nick Swisher. What exactly has he done this year other than sing and dance and get Hawk all giddy when he does have nice day. Swish is blasted right along with them, but since he doesn't have the personality of a piece of wood, he gets some leniency. It might not have a huge impact, but having a guy around that seems to actualy enjoy playing baseball for a living is a good thing to have on the team. It would be hard to watch a team of PK's sitting on the bench golf-clapping for a walk-off grand slam. Again, I'm not saying he is the greatest man alive, but would still take him over the others who could have been in his place. Oh and what about the weeks PK was out? Who fills in for him and actually produces? Thome? Ozuna? Ross Gload? -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 04:42 PM) He is hitting .228 I suppose the fact that he hit the walk off home run in the extra inning game and had a nice game Saturday alleviates the .228 average becasue he does draw the timely walk. Nick Swisher is not a good hitter. To get called out on strikes like he has tells me he is not a good hitting. I suppose the singing and the dancing make up for it though. The line Hawk uses "Don't tell me what you do, tell me when you do it," could be the dumbest line ever. A .330 hitter is more useful than a .230 hitter no matter when they get the big hit. Sorry to hurt your feelings by thinking Nick Swisher sucks because I really think he does and the .228 batting average and below average defense back me up. So basing the "he is the most overrated player in white sox history" off of the last 2 games is somehow different than saying he is the best after 2 walkoffs/game tieing? Right, sounds good. I'm not saying he is the savior of this team, but to overreact after every big K is retarded. I'd still take him any day over any of the other OF options we pursued in the off season based on age/contract and ability. -

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) Nick Swisher could be the most over rated player in White Sox history. In the last two games he has looked at strike three ala Scott Podsednik three times. With runners in scoring position in huge situation. To call him a run producer is sickening. Oh for sure. He struck out 2x in the bot 9th in the last 2 games. If only he could tie games up with homers or get on base for homers or hit walkoff homers he wouldn't suck so badly. hahah, this place is comical after a loss, makes the rest of work go by faster. -

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) OK, I was using "hitter" as a generic term for person who produces offensively. Swisher has a track record for producing offensively in MLB But but but, he was supposed to hit .265 and 40 hr's!!!!! He's and absolute failure -

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) It's a tough call, but his superior defense and great start this season is likely more valuable than what Swisher's done this year. And 2x as much money, 1/2 the HR's, equivalent obp, less RBI's. I'm still taking swish over that clown. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 03:10 PM) For the most part, we CRUSH average and mediocre pitching and are dominated by good pitching. There are exceptions (Saturday against Lackey, for example), but usually, that is how it works. Ehh, we're just streaky. We light up Verlander, CC, etc and get shut out by others. Depends on the guy and how the team is feeling that day.
