Golden Domers and more: CFB 2024/25 thread.
SexiAlexei replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Georgia won the NC 2 years ago, I think it's a bit early to call them average at best. Alabama just had a HC change and lost a bunch of players because of that, and Georgia lost their QB (who struggled most of the year). Alabama and Georgia are still at the very top of the recruiting rankings, so until that changes, they'll still be competing for championships every year. I do think the SEC has been very top heavy, and the rest of the conference rode their tails. -

I'm sure the Bears will move on from Fields, but I'll always wonder what he would have been under a different coaching staff. I'm sure we'll see it. I keep hearing Getsy is no good and has to go. I see all the awful calls, calling the same play back to back, running out of the shotgun with less than a yard to go, the team looking lost after the first scripted drive, just the same crap over and over. I wonder if Getsy's this awful at playcalling, is he any better coaching players up? I remember hearing multiple times that the focus was on defense and not turning the ball over. I even recall at the beginning of last year some pretty awful turnovers, Fields said he promised he would never make that mistake again. Then I wonder, are they driving it in to him to not take risks, not make turnovers? And so we're sitting back and seeing open receivers and his hesitation. He didn't have this hesitation when he first got here. Is he bad, or has this been drilled into him? Who knows, Either way, I'm not sure the current Fields is the future of this team, so we'll see if they make the right choice going forward. -

I don't understand why people keep saying the Bears passed up on CJ Stroud. No one was taking CJ Stroud #1 overall. It was Young and the rest. If I recall correctly, there were a lot of questions on whether CJ was even worth the #2 pick. So we passed up on Young, which I'm happy with. Would I rather have CJ? Yes, but that wasn't the choice. I am a Buckeye fan, and I can't say I saw this coming. Something flipped in that Georgia game and he's been different since then. -
A sobering thought for me is just how awful this team has been. I put up with the garbage "rebuilding" years, just to have a team that never truly competed, and now they're rebuilding yet again. What's the point of sitting through the garbage "rebuilding" years again with the same management, why should anyone assume they can actually field a competitive team. Sure it's fun to watch some young guys develop, but it gets tiring rooting for development just for the team to fail. I feel the same way with the Bulls. We had the "baby bulls" that could never get there, then the rebuild into the Derrick Rose bulls, that couldn't get there, into this new team that can't get there. At some point it's just not fun watching rebuild after rebuild with no trust that the team will actually compete. This year has really sucked a lot of joy out of the whitesox for me.

I believe it depends on if the games are carried locally. If they are, I'd suggest a digital antenna, but if that's not feasible, any of the YouTube TV, Sling, Fubo Tv work, and usually you can get a free trial with them. I like youtube tv, but it is a bit expensive. If they are not on locally, I believe the only legal way would be to sign up for NFL Sunday Ticket.

Guess there's still a game Guardians @ Sox 610 pm

First game I was going to go to since opening day, and it was mostly for the post game concert. However, this looks like at least a long rain delay. -
These are top tier, Kelce type stats. What has he done to show he's that good?

My god some of the takes on this website... I guess we should have traded the whole team last year for Mercedes hot start too. -
This team looks like they quit on the coach. Way too many mistakes, poor decisions, poor execution. I’m a buckeye and was so pumped for Fields. I’m really hoping a new coach can reduce some of these boneheaded decisions. He can look great on some plays and so bad on others.

They have been. As a partial season ticket holder, I've gotten 2 separate invites to purchase playoff tickets. 2nd one is tomorrow at 2pm. I assume after that they'll release them to the public.

It feels like this exact same thing just happened, but I guess it was 13 years ago... time flies. -
Aren’t they literally doing that by trading Madrigal?
-
Hate this move. I felt like Nick was really turning it on before he got hurt. I get that he didn’t have power, but he didn’t strike out and got on base.

I am not a fan of this new realignment at all. I felt like college football was already losing some of what made it special, and it was becoming a focus on just the playoffs. Now, when we turn to 2-3 mega conferences, that will be even more evident. I also wonder, if you're a bottom half college football team in one of these conferences, especially one that moves to a new conference, what are you looking forward to? And I really don't understand Texas' motivation. They have been struggling to return to their glory. How is being a midlevel SEC team going to make that any easier?
-
I assume they still seat you, they just won't let you order?

I think this has the potential to help out some of the "smaller" schools in a large market. If a kid was looking to make money, choosing a school like Northwestern or DePaul would provide quite the opportunity, if he was good enough. But I do agree, this will definitely help the top schools the most, as they can offer national attention. I was originally against paying college kids, but when I look around and see everything that the NCAA is doing to make money off these kids, I think it's about time the kids got some of the action.

Au Cheval is one of the best burger joints in the city. Just be aware that they don't have much food beyond burgers. And they don't take reservations, so the earlier the better if you don't want to wait.

I live right off the metra, so this would make going to a Bears game a lot easier for me. However, something about an indoor stadium out in the burbs doesn't excite me. -
I just got an email this morning that they are assigning seats to ticket holders. Everyone has until Saturday at noon to accept or reject the seat assignments. I assume after that point they'll know what's available and start offering tickets to others.
-
I bet they’re just waiting for capacity to increase. My understanding is that should happen in the next home stand. They probably don’t have enough capacity to honor everyone’s season tickets and all the smaller plans right now. I bought the 20 game pass and had some horrible communication with the team, but when I finally got a ticket rep, communication got a lot better.

I wasn’t happy with the hire, and he continues to find ways to keep disappointing. This team is full of exciting young players and he shows he doesn’t belong with these comments.
-
Thanks, I have definitely seen it around, but wasn't sure what it was, I'll check it out for sure.

I’m going to have to try to find this. I loved the juicy craze for a bit but I think it’s gotten old. Everything is a DDH IPA, it seems like the old regular IPA and west coast IPA is hard to find these days.

Us fans put up with all of the garbage of rebuilding, only to get this far and then have this be the hire? I feel like this team was building strong momentum and then they kick us in the nuts with this.
