  1. I do not believe this is a move that will benefit the Sox. I really hope I eat my words, but there needs to be significant organizational change to have the best change of success. Naming a top lieutenant of the guys who failed does not scream success.   This also is not like having a really good offensive or defensive coordinator and making them head coach because they are probably better than the current head coach.

  2. The more I hear about Getz or any combination of internal guys as the single voice shows me that person in that role won’t actually be the decision-maker. Anyone from the outside we would want isn’t going to come in here and be handcuffed. They will want their successes to be with their own decisions, their own lieutenants, and their own manager. They’ll also want to know there is a checkbook to bring in FAs.

if it’s Getz, then there appears to be no serious commitment to change and Williams/Hahn were sacrificed to make it look like change will happen.

I don’t care who JR wants to keep on the payroll in whatever ambassador or advisor role as long as those people know they aren’t calling the shots and that they are not taking away from resources to scout/develop/coach talent.

Concerts? Events? Why have the stadium sitting for most of the year?

It’s utilized most of the year due to the long baseball stadium. The problem is that big-time entertainers want to go to Wrigley, and if they don’t play there, Soldier Field will host bigger events. I would have to look the last major concert hosted by the Sox.

The concert itself at Wrigley is nice but the amenities and just super cramped feeling is awful.

As far as the stadium itself, it seems solid the way it is. The concourses aren’t anything special but into the ballpark is nice.  It just needs to see good baseball because a few bad season takes a lot to come back from.

  4. I don’t think you’ll see most managers admit that they’re doing anything but trying to win games.  The same with an NFL HC playing the 3rd string QB, sitting its best wideout, and playing a back-up OL after the GM trades the teams’ best guys, but you know what their actual stance is.

Grifol’s future is likely tied into what happens with KW and Hahn. I can’t see a good GM coming in if that person has really no control.

  5. If we are not able to bring in FAs who can produce, it doesn’t matter who we would have traded away and received in return. It will probably take new ownership to do that though because our current ownership/front office has shown no serious efforts to do so. We may have made record offers for the Sox, but the key there is “for the Sox.”

Perhaps we could get the personnel to compete in the Central, but we are a long way from competing beyond the Central with our approach.

Well, we only got 2 can’t miss prospects in Cease/Giolito in hindsight because Moncada Jimenez Kopech and Lopez haven’t lived up to previous billing.

So that doesn’t provide much hope if the success rate on “can’t miss” is only 33%.

I should have defined someone as “can’t miss” as consensus being they’ll be in the big leagues and not just a call-up for a cup of coffee. For my definition, I see the guys you mentioned as can’t-miss prospects because they all made it to and stuck on the MLB roster. I personally view their performance once they make it to be separate from “can’t-miss” prospect status.

Ultimately, this was a huge payroll dump. It gives AA and AAA guys a chance to get MLB experience so we can see what we have going into 2024 because either these guys or veterans we bring in at cheap salaries are going to be needed to fill out the roster.

I like this move. Kid had a ton of potential few years back. Maybe he can become a cheap option for next season.

There are a lot of innings to eat next year, both as a starter and middle reliever. He gives us an option, along with other guys we picked up. If we aren’t going to sign guys to give us a roster to compete in 2024, there is going to be plenty of opportunities of all of these AA and AAA-level pitchers to get tried out.  There is very little risk in claiming Honeywell, so we’ll see what he could do for us.

By that argument, we only have one 2+ fWAR starting player in Robert, because it’s quite easy to find the flaws all across the roster.

If they’re not right on any of these pitchers, the rebuild is pretty much dead before it even got restarted.

I think a few of the prospects we got in return are decent and will play for us on the MLB roster soon, but I view the moves made to pare payroll. The hope is that a few of these guys could end up on the MLB roster soon. We weren’t dealing anyone that would return a can’t-miss prospect.

How do you trade a guy like this? The guy can hit. Man I hate my White Sox now. Worst outlook for a team ever. Moronic to trade him.

I like Burger as part of the clubhouse, but I struggle to find a place he can play long-term on defense. He can hit home runs, but slugging 30-35 of those won’t be a net positive with an OBP under .300, a BA in the 2-teens, and striking out more than 1 time per 3 AB.

He’ll be 28 next year and has a history of injuries.

  10. I liked the production from the middle of our line-up, but we have to hope for 2024+ that more guys come around. Kopech threw a lot better than his last time out vs the Indians. With our pitching line-up for next year, he’ll likely be a starter, but he just seems off.

  11. Softball..it's amazing to see some of the players my team has played against over the years in one of the biggest softball stages of them all. It also has the best in the game playing in it.

Basketball has gotten more competitive over the years, so you aren't watching 120-52 blowouts by the U.S. every game. Will be interesting to see how they do this year.

Can't argue with those watching women's beach volleyball though...

  12. Have relatives in Alaska that I'm planning to visit soon, so luckily they aren't that much across the state.

Stepbrothers seems like it will be a hilarious movie. It's on the list to watch when it comes out.

  13. Not a bad add. You have him for $600,000, so not a huge financial loss (in comparison to what NFL players are making) and only for one year. The only downside is if he produces really well then he's a free-agent the next year. However, maybe he would give the Bears a break because they "gave him a chance". Would have been interesting to see what his other offers were, if any.

    Pizza

I wish we had more Chicago style pizza down here in central IL. After going out, some people go to a place like Flingers (next to the bars) or they make the trek towards campus (ISU) and get Pokey Sticks from Gumby's pizza. I'm sure they aren't as good as they seem after you have had a few. However, neither are in a class anywhere close to Chicago-style pizza.

  14. Long time lurker, first time poster. I can definitely say I'm impressed by such a large contingent of Sox fans that talk some good baseball and just life matters in general…what better people could there be? I apologize for the long post, but I had to think of something during the 35 minute All-Star game introductions.

If I won the lottery, I would have to agree with others who could live comfortably off of say $100,000 a year. After taxes on the $300,000,000, I figure I’d be left taking about $120,000,000 or so in a lump sum payment or around $175,000,000 in installments.

First, I would make sure my Mom had top notch medical care. My parents move to Florida has done wonders for her health, but I still worry about her. My first plan would be to set up trust funds for my cousins and future kids and nieces and nephews so they would have college paid for ($75,000) and partial down payments ($25,000) on houses. With 10 younger cousins and approximately 4-6 children/nieces/nephews, I would put away $1,600,000 in a trust account that not even I could break. The interest earned on the bonds/cds would be donated to a children’s cancer charity.

I would fund 10 endowed scholarships at each of my parents’ alma maters as well as my sisters (so 20 for Illinois State and 10 for Lewis). I would fund an additional 10 for the Illinois State for athletics use. I would also set aside $5,000,000 to fund a new softball complex. I would also donate $5,000,000 to my church to do mission work and upgrade facilities.

My one “thrill purchase” would be to set aside money to buy and renew Sox tickets-12 per game. Four would be donated to charity, and the rest for family and friends to use. I would also buy tickets to every Sox game and follow them around the country for a season.

The rest I would put in safe and relatively safe investments. I would have more than enough money for my family and myself to live off of, so the interest earned could be donated to various charities.

Sorry for the long post, Go Sox!
