I don't think there's anything wrong with having Javy as 4 or 5. He will eat innings and, during the regular season, give you at least a 50/50 shot at winning. He costs a lot of money, but the Sox are a big payroll team and it's a done deal anyway, so try and get some value out of it

I'm a Javy hater (because I foolishly keep expecting so much more from him), but I'm also good with keeping him as an expensive 4 or 5. The White Sox know that he is not a top of the rotation guy, but were forced by circumstances to pitch him in Game 1. Sure he crapped back the lead, but he kept us in the game. Unfortunately, that's all you can hope for from the guy, or for that matter, any 4 or 5.

  2. I only saw the latter half, but Biden was clearly stronger. I've heard Palin was better early on, but based on what I saw, I can't imagine even the most diehard McCain supporter being proud of how she did. I was far more impressed with her convention performance than by what I saw tonite.

    Athomeboy,

McClellan was a Civil War General.

Thats how I caught it because I know much more about US history than I do about current US foreign policy.

She probably got it confused because shes been spending so much time with all those teachers in her life.

I have a feeling he whiffed on the name too, but was smart enough not to venture a guess.

Javy is the Sox 4th starter, due to having to play the last few weeks we could not set the rotation.

Badger has a point. Running out our worst starter in Game 1 is the price we have to pay for having dicked around the last few weeks. It still sucks though, as does Javy.

  5. Normally, streaming audio of Sox radio broadcasts is "blacked out" on the WSCR website. However, I heard that ESPN 1000 will be airing the national playoff broadcasts locally. Does anyone know if you can listen to the latter on the web without purchasing mlb audio or anything like that? I have crappy AM radio reception at work.

  6. Cool like Fonzie. To me, everything from this point on is absolute gravy. Although I was always hopeful, I really didn't expect us to be here. Not in the Spring, not after Quentin and Contreras went down, not after the Sweep, and not after we got shelled on Friday and Saturday while the Twinkies lost. We manned up and won a tough race and are back in the playoffs 3 years after winning it all. That's good enough for me.

But I'm sure I'd feel much worse if I weren't under such heavy sedation.

  7. I think I'm probably one of the older posters on here so I don't know if a lot of you can identify with this yet, but I definitely felt old when I realized that all of the players on the professional teams I followed were significantly younger. You grow up idolizing and looking up to your sports heroes as gods, and then one day it hits you that all of them (to use an Ozzie-ism) are "kids." Its a little depressing to think that John Danks was an infant when I was in college.

I thought it was awesome and it looked great on TV. I just thought it was interesting the Sox came out in the white unis...I expected they would have had the black jerseys.

The Black ones hadn't been working too well lately, and they'd won the last two games wearing White. I'd have been seriously pissed if they'd went back to Black just to match the theme. Like Crash said, "Never f*** with a winning streak."
