  1. The Doors are now closed for Ray Manzarek.
  2. Watching the bland Total Recall remake this weekend a question came to mind: Has a hotter woman ever kicked more ass on film than Kate Beckinsale? I think not.
  3. ESPN Chicago ‏@ESPNChiHawks Stalberg remains in the white jersey for today's practice
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ May 17, 2013 -> 12:40 AM) Sox won a bases loaded walk by Keppinger...just think about that sentence. You gotta be bleepin' me.

    2012 Book Thread

    QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 15, 2013 -> 12:23 PM) Anyone planning to read Inferno by Dan Brown? In looking at some of the reviews, I didn't realize there was so much love/hate for him and his books. I won't buy it until it's under $10 for the Kindle, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it like I've enjoyed all of his other books. I probably will. His books are fun, quick reads. I read the first 50 pages of "Wool" today and am ready for more.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 15, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) Now that was a fun time. That game stayed tied a little too late for my taste, but Howard could only save the day for so long. Yeah, Howard really played well, and kept it a game for much longer than it could have been. I was the fortunate and extremely grateful recipient of a skybox invite last night, for my only game this season (I had tickets to several cancelled locked-out games). Not a bad night at all. The noon Saturday start still blows.
  7. 17-21. Same record as last year after 38 games.
  8. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 14, 2013 -> 05:29 PM) It's really something to explain to bandwagon jumpers that home games weren't on TV. Hell, even back in high school, if a Hawks game came up and they would ask what channel it's on or hey maybe I'll watch, I just had the "uh, it's a home game" response, which most people were just like, "OK and?" I spent many a nights doing homework with headphones plugged into the stereo downstairs. That was...normal. We became so used to it. Remember being excited when Fox would be able to grab a game in the spring? You'd stop your life to watch that game. OMG THIS IS THE BEST THING EVER, I CAN SEE THE UNITED CENTER ICE. SEASON RESERVATIONISTS FTW At the risk of sounding like an AT&T U-Verse commercial, "back in my day" you couldn't even listen to the first period of home games on the radio. They'd start the broadcast with the second.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 14, 2013 -> 03:52 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6888792.story I misread this the first time through as a five hour drill. If only. . .
  10. Can't wait for the start of the Norris Division Finals. I can imagine a f***ed up Bob Probert toothlessly smiling up at us.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 10, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) are deng, hinrich or rose playing? No. In other news, Generalissimo Francisco Franco isn't healthy either.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 9, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) I'm so old and responsible now. Three years ago I'd have been blackout drunk excited for as many overtimes as possible. Last night? Sleeping like a baby. Wait 'til you're my age. Without a drop of grog, I have trouble making it to the end of the 8:30 starts. I hope like hell we don't play any West Coast teams further on. And yes, I am truly ashamed of myself.

  15. It's weird to speak of "pride" with respect to something I don't have a personal stake in, but that word keeps coming to mind when I think about this Bulls team. They have a huge heart and huge stones. No matter what happens from here, I feel proud of them.
  16. QUOTE (Jake @ May 2, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) First article of mine to be featured on Yahoo! main page: Top 10 Kentucky Derby Horses Names of All Time Congratulations!
  17. Some Pennsylvania woman who'd been missing for 11 years and declared dead showed up the other day: http://www.cnn.com/2013/05/01/us/pennsylva....html?hpt=hp_t1 I imagine the husband, who was once a suspect in her disappearance, is grateful that Nancy Grace didn't have a show back then.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 30, 2013 -> 02:12 PM) How far west? Naperville-ish
  19. Can anyone recommend a fun place to watch Friday night's Hawks game close to the Western burbs? Ideally one that won't be a huge sausage fest? Thanks
  20. Minny is just the type of team you don't want in the first round; a really talented, veteran team that took a while to gel with new additions, underachieved most of the year, and is probably a lot better than its record suggests. I'm not particularly worried, but I remember when the PT "curse" was alive and well, and am still smarting from the Hawks ouster in the early '90s. Its silly, I know, but I think I'd prefer this to be a 2-7 matchup than a 1-8.
  21. QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 11:21 PM) I have no problems with the Long pick. I'm not one who usually plays the generalization card, but the Bears have been given so much crap about not being able to put together an offensive line that I can't criticize them for identifying somebody they liked and drafting them in the first round. You know, trying to solve the atrocity that has been killing the offense and Jay Cutler for the last several years. It wasn't the sexy pick, but I can't say it's the wrong pick either, considering our circumstances. I certainly can't fault them for addressing the OLine, but like others I question the value of that pick at that spot. Everything I've heard and read screams "reach," and for the second year in a row. I don't buy at all that they "identified" and "targeted" Long as their guy at 20 all along. That's typical draft day PR, and if true, seems cause for serious concern after they said and did the same thing last year and got limited contributions from McClellin. This looks like a bit of a panic pick after an unusual bypass on skill players in favor of a run on linemen. I hope I'm wrong. By all accounts he's extremely talented and athletic, but raw and comes with some personal baggage. Fingers are crossed.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 12:33 PM) Because he's from Notre Dame and hating Notre Dame is way more important than, you know, football reasons and stuff. You may disagree with them, but there are plenty of legitmate reasons to want to pass on Teo beyond that. The Bears have greater needs and TE would be a luxury pick at #20, but I certainly wouldn't hate Tyler Eifert.
  23. Six championships did not erase the stain of "The Migraine" and "The 1.8 Seconds" from Scottie Pippen's legacy with many Chicago fans. I hope Derrick Rose knows what he's doing, because rightly or wrongly, this is going to follow him his whole career here. I guess this makes me a "meatball," but seeing Noah completely gut it out on one leg while Rose sits there and watches make me want to call him a p**** to his face.
  24. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) Mike Mayock did his mock on NFLN last night and he has the Bears taking Te'o at 20. Sweet Jesus in heaven, don't let this be true. I can't remember what its like to be thrilled with a Bears' first-round pick (maybe Benson, but who could have known?). Usually I'm either pissed or completely bewildered.
  25. I too fear a very long Summer. Its still early and anything can happen, but it really has that vibe so far. By the time the Stanley Cup playoffs are over, this baseball season could be too.
