  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) They'd rather face Juan Pierre. That's funny. And also sadly true.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 12:35 PM) Good call on the weather forecast. Really? I see forecasted highs for this weekend of only 91, 88 and 80.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) @joshtpm - BLAGOJEVICH JURY REACHES UNANIMOUS VERDICT ON 18 OF 20 COUNTS Thanks. Once again I learn of major breaking new from Soxtalk (I'm not sure what that says about me, or if its good or bad).
  4. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 24, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) If the deal is one for one, Stan Bowman deserves not only a mini giraffe, but also a mini elephant. "Apic When"

    2011 TV Thread

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) I love me some Louie, and I'll check out Wilfred or whatever it's called. What did y'all think? I thought Wilfred was amusing and that Elijah Wood and the dog guy were great (loved his accent). I hope the writing stays sharp, because I can see the novelty of the premise wearing off fast.

    2011 Films Thread

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 03:12 PM) When you think Scrosese, The Departed doesn't make the top 5 list of films he has made. I could care less if he won an Oscar for it. I disagree: 1. Raging Bull 2. Goodfellas 3. Taxi Driver [big drop] 4. The Departed
  7. Whitey Bulger, the 81 year-old Boston mobster who was on the FBIs 10 most wanted list for years and was the inspiration for Jack Nicholson's character in The Departed, got busted last night in LA. http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/06/23/califo....html?hpt=hp_t1
  8. Robin is one of my all time favs, but no way. Same with Paulie. Same with Baines. Omar will make it. Thome maybe, only because his will be a "clean" 500 HRs. Looking forward to going to see the Big Hurt's plaque. There was a feature in the Tribune Travel section Sunday on Cooperstown that got me psyched.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) Technically once you have been sworn in as a Congressperson you are able to keep the title for your entire life. It is accurate to refer to a former Congressman as "Congressman Foley" or "Congressman Weiner" regardless of the circumstances. Similarly, once they receive a promotion, they can accurately be referred to by that title. Once they have become a committee chairperson, you can refer to the person as "Chairman/Chairwoman" 20 years later. This continues up the chain..."President Carter..." etc. I always understood protocol to dictate that the title may be restored only after death, but that while alive it is "former-President Carter," "ex-Governor Romney," etc. I almost never hear that followed, though.
  10. I just realized that if the Bruins win tonight, Boston will have won championships in all four major sports within 7 years. After the Hawks won last year, I remember hearing that Chicago was the only city to have done that in the last 25. For a moment, I actually considered whether that obscure point of civic pride (combined with my disdain for New England fans in general) might be enough to warrant pulling for the Canucks. It isn't.
  11. I see some Cubs are wearing T-Shirts that say "f*** the Goat." http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-06...illy-goat-curse Personally, I'd just drink, but if playing for that franchise drives dudes to beastiality, who am I to judge?

    Watches

No Tag love here? I got mine as a gift. Probaby wouldn't have picked it myself, but I've come to really love it. They're a nice combination of sporty/dressy.
  13. Seating is first come-first serve, so if you want to sit right in front of the windows (there's a bar-like counter that runs the length of it where you can set your drinks or food) you either have to get there early, or be poised to move in quickly if someone leaves to go back in the park).
  14. Not surprisingly, Terrelle Pryor will no longer be speaking to the NCAA. http://content.usatoday.com/communities/ca...investigation/1
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2011 -> 12:41 PM) I was there too. About 20 rows high in the UD behind home plate. The next section over had one of the best chick fights I have ever seen during extras. Me 3
  16. Can't say its totally unwarranted, but the timing seems weird, considering all the injuries they've had of late.
  17. First game of the year tonight. Going with my 7 year old's Little League Team and a bunch of parents. I hope I can restrain myself when Dunn strands his usual quota.
  18. That's 5-5 on the "crucial" 10 game trip. Not too shabby, and considering we left Canada at 2-5 to face a Red Hot Red Sox team, kind of stellar. I feel like Michael Corleone in III: "Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in."
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 10:38 AM) I still think the guy who is 0-8 with an ERA over 5, and who the team is 1-10 in games he starts overall, should move to the bullpen. But, I like Jackson's team first attitude. I couldn't agree more.
  20. QUOTE (Cali @ May 31, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) This momentum will carry the BoSox to a win tomorrow I'm sure. I think that's a cliche that has nothing to do with what happens tomorrow. At least I hope so,
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 27, 2011 -> 10:39 AM) Mark Cuban is what I would be if I were super rich and owned a sports team. I love the guy. I think he's kind of a phony, though I'd probably be just like him too if I had his dough (and was his age). He just seems way too much the "look at me" media whore for my personal tastes. His whole "maybe I'll buy the Cubs" flirtation was just an attention-grabbing stroke of the sheep, no different than Trump's "maybe I'll run for president." Not saying its not smart, it just rubs me the wrong way.
