  1. Starts today. http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/...onds-trial-day/
  2. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Pretty pathethic, but anything can happen in the tournament. They were still by far the best conference to bottom this year, yet overrated at the same time.
  3. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) Tennessee absolutely quit. Worst 2nd half performance I've seen from this team, and that's saying something b/c we've had some really bad halves of basketball this year. They sure didn't do their coach any favors. If Hamilton was on the fence, that certainly didn't help.
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) Voluntarily. I would think they would actually like that to be in the news. Then they need new PR and SI people. Ones who know better than to break this on an absolutely HUGE sports day that also coincides with a drunk fest.
  5. I have to get one of those shirts that read "I (heart) Morehead"
  6. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 16, 2011 -> 11:15 PM) Pearl was definitely in the wrong regarding the Illinois situation. It was a low thing to do. But it was 20+ years ago. Let it go. It didn't affect the program like most Illinois fans claim it did. Illinois fans are pissed b/c they think the program would have been "Duke-esque" over the last 20 years if they hadn't gone on probation due to the NCAA investigation that stemmed from Pearl's allegations. Literally, I have been told by Illinois fans that you guys would have been as good as Duke if Pearl hadn't brought on the NCAA investigation. Well, guess what? If Illinois hadn't been cheating, they wouldn't have gotten in trouble. Pearl should not have brought light onto the program with the Deon Thomas accusations, but Illinois was still committing multiple NCAA violations and it's their fault for that. They deserved what they got.I do agree with you on one thing. Pearl should be suspended from coaching for at least a year (maybe two) for his violations. As has been said, this is flat wrong. Illinois (Mike White) had committed multiple, major violations with its football program several years before, but nothing major was ever found with respect to hoops. I was in law school there at the time and attended press conferences, read reports, followed everything very closely. The facts are, even after Pearl's illegal tape recording and his slandering of Jimmy Collins and Deon Thomas, the only things the NCAA ever found in its resulting investigation was improper use of complimentary tickets by former players; setting NCAA Tournament tickets aside for high school coaches to buy; some untimely recruiting contacts, and that preferential treatment was given to existing players on loan applications by a Decatur bank, wholly apart from the school. Rules violations? Yes, absolutely. But not "cheating" in the sense of lying, bribing recruits, or cover ups. I'm pretty orange and blue, but not one of those who can turn a blind eye and claim my school did no wrong. It clearly did in football, which is partly why it got punished as it did in basketball. And anyone who claims the Illlini would have won multiple championships but for Pearl's crap is as delusional as he is dirty (and he's filthy dirty).
  7. Jake sent home today with a stomach virus that may knock him off his schedule. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=6228463 Undoubtedly the most runs he's had all Spring.
  8. QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 17, 2011 -> 06:02 AM) As a Kappa Sigma member I can say that the national organization takes this stuff very seriously. This could cost them their charter. Unless the chapter has enough alumni to donate and change their mind, which is an unfortunate reality. But seeing as how this is public, I think that I the email is real, that chapter will be gone. Even if real, its possible that this is the just the boasting of one, misogynistic guy. Unless there are facts showing that the chapter followed the author's lead and that there was, in fact, a ratings "book" compiled by the house on campus women, I think a revocation of the entire charter might be extreme. If everything was done via private computers and personal email accounts, I wonder how the national fraternity could prove it without someone 'fessing up.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2011 -> 01:04 PM) So that chick smelled kinda funny, turns out she had a Rusty... Oh nevermind. Sometimes, when I’m feeling a bit randy and naughty, I like to put on a trenchcoat, get my Garth Iorg, and then find a crowded street corner where I can Rance Mulliniks right there in public, with no one even knowing! . . . . or have I misapprehended the purpose of this thread?
  10. Am I the only one who thinks Peavy looks a little bit like actor Jeremy Renner from The Hurt Locker and The Town? Maybe its just because both of those characters are badass.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 09:51 AM) The loose theory that I heard was based on the fact they could suspend Tressel or something to that end and it wouldnt affect the university as much as if the AD was involved. Like I said, a fan's theory. I honestly believe Smith knew as well. Well if Smith knew, too, its probably better for the univeristy in the long run if he just cops to it now. "The cover up is always worse than the crime."
  12. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 10, 2011 -> 09:29 AM) If you read all the emails, it was clear his first actions was to inform the players to stop any contact with this felon. It supports the timeline in his statement. In hindsight I think its clear that was the wrong reaction, and this is why he is being punished. However, the exact reasons above are why alot of OSU fans think he DID inform Gene Smith, and is taking the heat for him. Its hard to believe he would take a fall for Smith, or that anyone would want him to or let him. Tressel is much more valuable to the university than Smith, and has been there almost twice as long.
  13. "I will get on it ASAP" Or not. All he had to do was hit "forward" on that email, and send it to his AD and/or compliance team. That should have been done automatically, without any deliberation, decision or pause. He is a former AD himself and by no means an idiot. I like Jim Tressel, but that, my friends, is what they call a "smoking gun."
  14. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 9, 2011 -> 10:06 AM) I call this study bunk from total anecdotal and irrefutable evidence. Chinese people seem to live to be 105, and their women aren't known for toting around "boobs" like the ones in that picture. Perhaps the mamms are just one part of a healthy overall "diet," and must be ogled in combination with legs and butt?
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 8, 2011 -> 02:10 AM) Oh, and parity in the AL? Not happening. Indians won 111, Yankees finished 2nd at 103, Chicago finished 3rd with 94 wins, and Boston finished 4th with 69 wins. Yes, that is a 35 win differential between 3rd and 4th. Remember there were only 8 teams in the league then. It stands to reason that with 3 teams with those ridiculous win totals, the other 5 had to have lots o' losses.
  16. I attended an "overuse" seminar yesterday for little league coaches. There was a local scout there from the BoSox, who was instrumental in their drafting of Michael Bowden. He was demonstrating examples of commonly bad pitching mechanics, and somebody asked him for an example of good ones. He said, "Watch Gavin Floyd."
  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 01:21 PM) I'd rather just see Humber out there for 2-3 starts and hope he just keeps us in the game before we force Peavy to come back at 80-90% and risk ANOTHER injury. In the scheme of things, 3 of 34 starts or so is not a big deal at all. I agree if that's the case. But Ptac keeps saying that if he is "less than," it will merely be due to an issue of strength as his muscle rebuilds. If that's so, he might as well go, but we can't afford to be too greedy.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 4, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) Jon Heyman Jake peavy, who pitches vs angels today, telling friends he's shooting for may 1 to pitch for real. #chisox Time for the Phil Humber era to begin! I'll optimisticaly take this to mean that he can still fill the fifth starter spot beginning April 10th, but will be at less than 100% until May 1. Depending on his velocity, Jake at 90% may still be better than anybody else in that spot.
  19. I guess he forgot how well it worked out for Dan Quayle when he went after "Murphy Brown": http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/...an/#more-149072
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 09:24 PM) Magic/Heat, holy s***. Crazy
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 3, 2011 -> 10:27 AM) Charlie Sheen is pretty brilliant. How long until the book comes out? How long until the "Winning" appearance tour with incredibly high fees? He's transformed himself into a person of consequence by giving some stupid interviews and launching a Twitter account. "Winning: The Cologne" Kinda sorta funny http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7AS25hyiBI
  22. Jackass Xtreme Sports (snowboarding's cool) Running with the Bulls (wow, you're one brave and macho idiot)
  23. I'll add the Illini comeback against AZ to go to the 2005 Final Four, which was the most remarkable sports event I ever attended in person. Being at 05WSG4 in Houston was the "best" insofar as it made me the happiest, but the magnitude of the comeback and the volume within the building were astonishing. My hands and throat hurt for days. I'm sure if I had been at 05WSG2, that would be at the top of the list.
