  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:55 PM) I think I am going to plan a trip to Cooperstown in 2014 to see the Big hurt and Maddux inducted. I'm hoping to go then as well. I was there once before, but was too young to remember it all.
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Except that Larkin was ridiculously good, whereas Dewayne Wise was a bit player who made a great catch and was one of Ozzie Guillen's toys. Other than the year he won it, Larkin finished in the top 10 in MVP voting (7th) just one other time in his career. He was one of the greatest shortstops of his era, no doubt, and as I stated above, he's probably better than several SS's who are already in. However, for position players, I think the HOF should be reserved for guys who consistently dominated their league, regardless of position. He wouldn't get my vote.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) the 2012 ballot will be a suckfest, so it's possible that Larkin gets in. Probably. I consider him very good, but not great. However, his numbers best a lot of other just very good shortstops who are already in. I'm kind of a HOF hardass, though. I think it should be much more exclusive than it is.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:31 PM) I look forward to checking out the DeWayne Wise wing at Cooperstown. In a world where Barry Larkin gets 62% of the vote, that's not an impossibility.
  5. I'll put in a list, but in thinking about this, I realized that this year I listened to very few albums all the way through and even fewer repeatedly. I just don't have the time anymore. I used to buy CDs all the time, but I've probably become the poster child for the "just download a few singles" consumer that's hurting the music industry. Lord have mercy on my soul.
  6. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 10:48 AM) I thought he was way older than 64. I really liked him in just about everything he was in. I thought the same thing.
  7. Not again with the flesh eating.
  8. "Quietly so no one sees" is a strange thread.
  9. Rain's going to wash out this year's "Winter Classic."
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 31, 2010 -> 01:46 AM) It was a correct PF, but I don't think that was a catch. Tennessee is the unluckiest team. When the ref says 'the game is over' and you lose, wow. Also, woo Big 12. Though, I gotta say I loved Nebraska losing, the conference is stinking it up against inferior competition. If ever there was a game that proved how BS bowl games are it's the Holiday Bowl. Nebraska clearly was better and f***ed Washington in Washington this year and lost in the bowl. Bowl games are exhibitions. Don't evaluate teams on them. Some (most) are. Others clearly are not.
  11. QUOTE (since56 @ Dec 31, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) Would it be nuts to put Peavy in the pen? At least when he first comes back. let him get some innings in without having to throw 100 pitches. Imo, yes. Better that he get back in the rhythm of starting every 5th day in the minors, extending innnings and/or pitch count till he's ready.
  12. Cannibals can bite me (Balta may not).
  13. Anyone object if we change the subject from cannibalism this time through the alphabet?
  14. Yellow-ish hair and skin don't sound delicious at all.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) I've been reading Keith Richards' Life on and off for about a month now. Pretty interesting read for any Stones fan. I am shocked that he can remember as many details as he can...the guy is a lot brighter than I anticipated. I got it for Christmas and am looking forward to it. I also got Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, An Object of Beauty by Steve Martin, and A Visit From the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan.
  16. QUOTE (zenryan @ Dec 30, 2010 -> 12:57 AM) I dont think anyone can classify a team that is outside the top 10 as being a really good team anymore. The past few years it seems that 2 or 3 teams are "top tier" and then it gets jumbled. I'll put my 2 cents behind this.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) Every time it has been done, it has been to defend the organization. I don't disagree. I just think a lot of times the things he is "defending" don't need to be dignified with a response. Too oftern he just amplifies and draws more attention to the perceived criticism.
  18. I love Kenny, but I don't think I've ever heard any GM speak more negatively about ex-players. That's not to say it probably hasn't been deserved in a lot of cases because of loyalty or what have you, but at some point a high-ranking executive has to act the part and stay above the fray, even more so since his field manager has no verbal filter.
  19. Why on earth are Purdue and Michigan playing their Big Ten opener on a Tuesday afternoon?
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 02:09 PM) Pisani and Crawford are out. Just with the flu, though. Hopefully the injury bug is long gone.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 28, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Just like when Swisher, Thomas, and others left, I'm sure KW is going to have to bite his tongue about what he really wants to say. No doubt this is true, but I wish it wasn't. That's the dark side of KW's uber-competitiveness.
  22. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 26, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Bears Oline playing very well today. Both defenses look like crap. These defenses are awesome. ESPN told me so.
