  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 02:49 PM) This is a disgrace. I just hope we have him one month. And if we fall out of the race, which seems inevitable, how the f*** are you gonna feel about Manny when he's not into playing for the White Sox with us 7 back?? Manny is a cheater. I don't want him. Meh. After Tim Raines (sorry Rock), Wil Cordero, Albert Belle, and Jose Canseco, I'm not getting that worked up over Manny Ramirez. He cheated, got caught, and served his "punishment" (as ineffectual and hypocritical as it might be). He'll be punished again when he's shut out of Cooperstown. Its not like he's going to be shooting up or dosing in our clubhouse or locker room; we're not going to be the ones "looking the other way" as he actively does his stuff. I've rooted for plenty of assholes, cheaters, and lawbreakers. What's one more?
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) Statue ceremonies are pregame. I'd suggest getting there as they open the gates to make sure that you don't miss anything. I don't think there's a statue (yet). At least I haven't heard anything specific about one being unveiled. I believe its just the number being retired and put up on the wall. With both Baines and Fisk, the statues came later.
  3. Let's get a winning streak going! Games, Series, the whole shebang! GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!!
  4. With this pitcher's lefty/righty splits, I thought for sure Kotsay would play tonight. I'm surprised and actually slightly disappointed that he isn't. Is it wrong?
  5. I'm poppin' my cherry on Gamethreads. Lefties are hitting .324 against Arrieta; let's lock and load up. GO YOU WHITE SOX! Go Cliff Lee!
  6. I'll be there with my young son. Bought the tix as soon as they announced the occasion. I like to try go to all these player "days," and was there for Fisk and Harold, as well. I hope to be there in Cooperstown in five years, too.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 11:18 PM) 16th inning in Philly the Astros just scored 2 and are now up 4-2 on the Phils. Ryan Howard was ejected in the top of the 15th inning forcing the Phils to move LF Raul Ibanez to 1B and Roy Oswalt into LF, he's played 2 innings out there. Howard's ejection looked pretty bush. He got tossed by the 3rd base ump who had just rung him up for the second time that night on an appeal of a check. Howard did toss his bat in frustration, but his strike out ended the innning with the winning run in scoring position. Imo, a player has the right to show some emotion in that situation. The ump's quick trigger could have really affected that game, which is big given the race the Phils are in.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:11 PM) Was it a high towering, drifting shot, or a bomb? Or a linedrive I guess? Lots of drawers on that one.
  9. Dude who caught the big fly is a Chicago White Sox fan! LOL at him giving s*** to Pie.
  10. I hope every season that the team is no more than 5 games back by September 1. That's still striking distance, especially with 3 left against the leader. Although depressing, four consecutive one-run road losses don't change that for me.
  11. Mid-September 2003, starting with the infamous Jose Paniagua game and culminating with Loiaza laying an egg in the dome to cap off a three game sweep there, was much worse, and I think will forever remain my low point in a lifetime of White Sox fandom.
  12. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 04:22 PM) Conspiracy requires an active step. Problem is that they have no active steps taken by Blago. Thats why this is a huge clusterf*** of a prosecution. Maybe not for the Senate seat count(s), but I thought I heard about lots of active steps taken in other matters; e.g.; those pertaining to Children's Memorial Hospital and the Tribune. Those sounded like pretty specific shakedowns of specific targets, for pretty specific quid pro quo. I don't think its fair to brand the whole prosecution a clusterf*** because the feds may have been forced to jump the gun on the one most egregious, and the most highly publicized, alleged "sale."
  13. To quote The Most Interesting Man in the World: "I have no idea what this is."
  14. Is it wrong to delight in this? (other than the fact that it's an abuse charge, I mean). I hope not, because I am.
  15. A quarter of the season remains. 1/4 25% That's a lot.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 03:27 PM) Look at the evidence, why do you think the Prosecution barely went into who was buying the seat. In order to sell something you have to have a buyer. I cant sell cocaine if I have no one to buy it. In almost every transaction there is a buyer and seller, in criminal prosecutions you have facts of X was going to sell to Y. This case unraveled because you have no clear concrete facts. Either A) Blago was not really that close to selling the seat and did not commit a crime or B ) Blago was close to selling the seat and some one does not want collateral damage in terms of who the buyer was. The govt cant have it both ways. The sale of the seat could not have been imminent if there was not a specific buyer. From a conspiracy standpoint, I don't beleive it matters if the sale of the seat to a specific buyer was imminent or not. If I know cocaine is "golden" in that people like to pay a lot of money to snort it, and I take definite measures to take cash in on that, including acquiring some and making preparations to sell (buying a scale, cutting and dividing), I am guilty of possession with intent to distribute, regardless of whether I have identified any potential target buyers. Sure, I haven't "sold" until the coke exchanges hands for cash, but I am legally guilty of posession with intent to distribute and, if others are involved with me and more importantly for this analogy, conspiracy to distribute. I don't think you need to have a "buyer" as a predicate to conspiracy, although the Blago jury may have thought so, or at least preferred it.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 20, 2010 -> 07:54 AM) A talk radio icon is complaining about not having her 1A rights. Read that again. A talk radio icon is complaining about not having her 1A rights. Awesome. Really. "My First Amendment rights have been usurped by angry, hateful groups." Yeah, none of which involve official, government actors, and thus, you know, implicate the First Amendment.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 09:08 PM) Was that HBP intentional? nah
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) 0-10 career vs. Pavano, & .192/.276/.378 split on the road this season. They need him to win the division, but I think I understand why he's not in there. I saw that, but since when does our manager ever look at or care about stuff like that? Besides, that just means he's due.
