  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) Pierre7 Viz5 Rios8 PK3 Teahen9 Ram6 Kotsay dh AJ2 Beckham4 Buehrle P No TCQ in a Must Win game. Mercy.
  2. QUOTE (IceCreamPants @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Well thats because he was hung like El Caballo. And could use it to hang out all the drawers in Cook County.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 01:43 PM) Perjury charges flat out take forever. They should, they are difficult to prove. The feds must be confident (but aren't they always). This kind of puts Dombrowki's recent comments about there being a lot more evidence to come out against Roger in a possible new light.
  4. I can't believe those hearings were two and a half years ago. I had to look it up to see if that wasn't a mistake. I hope justice is done (whatever that may be). Clemens makes me sick.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 11:38 PM) 5 is a lonely number indeed... But, it ain't over yet fellas. We can still win this division. Time to nut up. True, 5 back in mid-August is nothing; especially with 4 still left against them. Hell, the Twins gained the 5 games in less than one week (one really, really bad, s***ty week). Its the difference in current momentum that makes things feel worse than they objectively are. In '08, the Sox went 3-9 over a 12 game stretch beginning September 15th (including the infamous 3 game sweep in the Dome) and still won the division. We can definitely still win it.
  6. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:25 AM) "Dad...wanna have a catch?" /thread Yeah, apart from the fact that I have never heard any Midwesterner ever speak of "having" a catch. I always "played" catch. Didn't you? I really enjoy that movie, but that particular phrasing is so odd that it takes me outside the movie and detracts a bit from the power of the scene. I don't know what it is about baseball movies, but the ending of The Natural affects me the same way. I like that movie a lot, too, but watching the ending, I always end up thinking how different it is from the book, rather than just taking it in.
  7. I do drugs. Lots and lots of drugs. Quaaludes mostly.
  8. I always find this very interesting. And painful.
  9. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) I also heard that they were unanimous in deciding innocent in the extortion charges with Rahm Emmanuel. This can't be right. If they were unanimous, they would have reached a verdict on those charges, no?
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 18, 2010 -> 06:14 AM) The law is irrelevant. To what exactly? You said this wasn't a national government issue. How does that applicable federal statute not make it one? Because the imam wants publicity? Now that's irrelevant.
  11. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) agreed. this should be moved or locked. it serves no real purpose except for people to whine about Thome not being signed which has been happening too much as it is. The whining about not signing Thome is boring and redundant, but still relevant. It was the story of the off-season, its shaping up as the story of the regular season, and it's likely to be a story in the post-season.
  12. That Tomay fellow is good. Wish we could have a lefty hitter like that.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 10:04 PM) This is not a shave situation. That = good
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) This has walk off written all over it. It certainly does.
  15. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 08:37 PM) It's not the NATIONAL government's place to decide this. Oh, unless it's the taking of private property for some taxable interest. Then it's ok, but I digress. Seriously, this is not a government issue, really. I think this is incorrect. The federal government effectively made this a national issue 10 years ago when it enacted the Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act of 2000, 42 U.S.C. §§ 2000cc, et seq., which provides, in pertinent part: No government shall impose or implement a land use regulation in a manner that imposes a substantial burden on the religious exercise of a person, including a religious assembly or institution, unless the government demonstrates that imposition of the burden on that person, assembly, or institution-- A. is in furtherance of a compelling governmental interest; and B. is the least restrictive means of furthering that compelling governmental interest. I believe that this federal statute applies, and makes most of the political pontificating against Cordoba House moot.
  16. I read he faces up to 5 years on just that one count alone. I wonder what the sentencing guidelines call for, and what that means in terms of real time. Also, if he was broke before, a retrial will absolutely kill him financially.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) I think an appointment with Stuart Smalley is in order. Bad idea. He represents Minnesota.
  18. Sorry, but when your ball lands in-bounds, within a kidney-shaped collection of sand/silt/fine dirt of that size, I think you have to at least consider the possibility that you might be in a "sand trap" and maybe ask one of the umpteen marshalls or rules officials within 50 feet of you for a ruling to be sure. That is, if you haven't read one of the several memos that were provided to the players and posted in the locker room which explained the point exactly. I feel sorry for the guy, but he screwed the pooch himself on this one. I do give him credit for how he handled himself afterwards, though.
  19. "Ooooh, we're afraid to go with you, Quinarvy, we might get in trouble."
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) Just got the e-mail from the Hawks, Monday, August 16th, 10:00 AM I got absolutely flat-out skunked. First time that's ever happened. I hope some of you did better.
  21. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) Is Stone going to do the whole game by himself today? Shh. Moose will hear you.
  22. Don't swing at a ball Alexei. Drive one.
  23. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 01:41 PM) How many MLB teams wouldn't sell out a series in mid August against a team they're tied for first? 3? Cincy didn't sell out any of its games this week with the Cardinals, and that was the biggest series in that city in close to 15 years.
  24. I hope we see the badass Burlymon. I expect we will. An occasional hit with RISP would be nice, too. LET'S GO WHITE SOX.
