  2. Following up on a discussion from earlier in the thread, John McD confirmed yesterday that Dale Tallon will get a ring and his name on the Cup. I feel good about those very classy gestures.
  3. I'd say Jake Peavy is healthy. Offense, not so much.
  4. For added irony, don't forget Pierre is an ex-Cub. In fact, I think Cubs fans hated him more than we do.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) I feel guiltily... I feel like I SHOULD buy some hawks gear, but at the same time I've never owned any and it makes me feel lie a bandwagon jumper. I think you are more than entitled to buy some "STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS" attire. I've followed them a long time and never owned any either.
  6. One of my earliest sports memories is crying as a six year old after listening to Game Seven in '71. My son is now 6 and my daughter is 7, so watching and celebrating with them last night was unbelievably special. After seeing Savard, Larmer, Olczyk, Chelios, Belfour, Hasek, etc., etc., etc., hoist The Cup in different sweaters, it was almost surreal seeing my favorite players carry it in the Indian Head. I've also really enjoyed checking in with and sharing this amazing run with you guys here. I wish I could be downtown tomorrow, but its the kids' last day of school. The parade will be going right past my old office window on Washington. I was on LaSalle in '05 though (and at Minute Maid), and I don't think anything could ever top that.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 01:36 AM) Do you guys really think we stand a chance in Game Six? I just can't see Philly quitting all of a sudden. We never beat them at Wakovia. I'm hoping but truly do any of you think we stand a reasonable chance? I think it's similar to Game Five only Philly's way and we gots to go to a Game 7. How can you think otherwise? Philly isn't all of a sudden going to tank. Philly has been a resilient lot the entire playoffs why stop in Game Six now? We're going to have to buckle down and win Game 7 in Chicago me thinks. You?? The Hawks are a very good road team. and I think they have an excellent chance. I've thought Hawks in six from the beginning, and I'm standing by it. In fact, I'm making a border run for fireworks today at lunch.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Would the ACC consider taking a run at a few Big East Teams? imo, most definitely
  9. Sorry, just not feelin' it. Being the least ugly sister provides me no consolation.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 04:14 AM) Quick question. Say the Hawks win on Wednesday, will Dale Tallon get his name on the cup (and get a ring)? I know he was with us this year early on, and now isn't (with another org). I mean he is the one who basically created this Hawks team. I would hope if it's a no, Rocky, John (especially) and Stan really give him pub/salute him in some way. I already feel bad for Cam Barker as well... I don't think so, because he has not been a part of the team this year (unless they count whatever silent, STFU role he may have technically still held). The NHL has specific rules that govern engraving of names. I'm not sure what the specific rules are for executives, but I know that when the Oilers' owner had his non-involved dad's name added a few years back, the league got pissed and had it crossed off. For players, a guy must have played at least half the year with a team, or at least one game in the Stanley Cup Finals. IIRC, Barker was traded at the deadline, so he might still be elgible.
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) Yep, and you are spot on. It annoys me when people think they know country when they don't know s*** accept for the garbage that plays on 99.5. Its just so annoying. The country music played by the likes of Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, etc., etc., etc... it just blows new country out of the water. Waylon Jennings needs to mentioned by name, and not relegated to mere a "etc."
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 08:30 PM) Didn't know you could score when an opposing player is laying in the net next to the goaltender. I couldn't believe this wasn't discussed by the announcers, let alone called by the officials. Harntell was across the goal line and partly inside the net, clearly blocking Niemi's lateral movement, and the shot was to that side. I know its a non-reviewable judgment call, but it seemed pretty obvious to me, and I though it at least warranted some analysis and an explanation.
  13. THIS.TEAM.IS.DEAD. (Well, its worked before)
  14. Ladd supposedly a game time decision. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/nhl/news/story?id=5251629
  15. Besides fun and exercise, one of the great things about participating in team sports as a kid is the chance to learn life lessons. One of the most important lessons is to play hard and play fair even though, in the end, there's no guarantee that you'll get what you deserve, and you might just end up getting your ass kicked anyway. Imo, this sort of rule--an attempt to legislate "fair" results--robs kids of that life lesson, to their ultimate detriment. I guess I'm old, but I see a correlation between this type of rule and the seeming sentiment that Galaraga should have been credited with a perfect game anyway. Yes, he got screwed. No, its not fair. But that's life. Its mostly fun, but some parts suck, and the sooner you learn to accept that, the better off you'll be. I'd rather my kid get a head start on learning that in youth soccer, than have to first confront that reality later on in life, over something more signficant.
  16. Garrett Wittels is now three games away from tying Rockin' Robin's record college hitting streak. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5252319
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 12:57 AM) There was really no doubt at any point that he'd be the choice IMO. He's got a chance to be a good one. Yeah, with their offensive line, they're going to need his mobility. I hope he survives to develop his potential.
  18. Redshirt frosh Scheelhaase named Illini starting QB. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/ncf/news/story?id=5242601 I can feel the panic in Columbus from here.
  19. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 08:35 AM) That is so great.
  20. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ May 27, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) Is that just a blackhawk thing or is that done for every Chicago team? I can recall seeing it for all except the Bulls, which apart from maybe a sweat band, would be hard to do anyway. I think one of the Bears' helmets was stolen a few years back.
