  1. Thanks, Steve, but I like JamesDiego's pictures in the baseball threads much better!
  2. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 12:28 PM) Well since you keep harping it so badly, B is obviously Huet. Yes, in both posts. Goalie A in the first comparison is Khabby. He's been around a lot longer, but he and Huet have very similar career stats. Goalie A in the second compairson is Marc Andre-Fleury, the guy who won the Stanley Cup (you know, that thing we'll never sniff because of our horrible goaltending).
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) LOL, did you really just compare Toews to Huet? Just suggesting something else for people to gripe and fret about over a team that's 4-1-1 and tied for its conference lead in points. Some people seem to really like that here.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 15, 2009 -> 11:21 AM) Huet's Blackhawks career has been beyond disappointing and bad. I guess "disappointing" is a term that's relative to your individual expectations, so I can't really argue with you there; for the money and the resulting cap problems for the team, he has been a disappointment.. But check out these stats from last season: Goalie A: 2.67 GAA .912 SV% Goalie B: 2.53 GAA .909 SV% Any guesses here? Hint: If either one is "beyond bad," its still more than "good enough."
  5. I do not understand the hate for Huet. Yes, he got off to bad starts each of the last two years, but so has the guy who wears our "C." I guess we need to dump both of them immediately to have any chance at the Cup. Goalies are like closers; they can run hot and cold, and both need to get regular, consistent work to be in top form. Huet has not gotten that here. Once he does, he will be fine; maybe not great, but good enough. Huet is a goalie who will look s***tier than most when rusty; several games at the beginning of the last two seasons and his first playoff game against the Wings after Khabby got hurt are prime examples, but given their circumstances, I think they just stick out in people's memories. Last year, with the team off to a bad start, the coaching change, and the luxury of having a "back-up" the caliber of Khabby, he understandably never got a chance to really get going. However, in the final, OT playoff loss against the Wings he was stand-on-your-head spectacular. He will be good enough. Career Stats going into this season: Goalie A: 2.67 GAA .908 SV% (Reg. Season) 2.40 GAA .917 SV% (Playoffs) Goalie B: 2.45 GAA .917 SV% (Reg. Season) 2.73 GAA .917 SV% (Playoffs) Any guesses?
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 14, 2009 -> 08:18 PM) Lou Holtz is unbelievably bad at his job He really is. Both in what he says and (even worse) how he says it.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Its not November yet... Yeah, he'll be fine. Just like last year. At least the team is out of the gate better.
  8. Here's a similar story that might be even more crazy: http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/33289924/ns/...y-today_people/
  9. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Oct 12, 2009 -> 07:34 AM) White Rabbits are pretty awesome. " Percussion Gun" in particular is f***ing great with all the drum action. And I have to say this about Back Spacer...I had low expectations for it but Pearl Jam still has me mumbling and singing along to their stuff. Agreed and agreed. I'd pretty much written Pearl Jam off, but Backspacer is a damn good album.
  10. A second quicker and I would have been first!
  11. I agree with the consensus that although last night's game was poorly played in many ways, it was hugely entertaining. Extra inning games when the road team takes the lead and the home team comes back to tie and extend are always dramatic and exciting. The stakes last night just increased that exponentially. I'm just too biased to objectively compare it to our Blackout game, but agree that most casual fans would prefer last night's higher scoring, back and forth contest.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:51 PM) Twins sweep us at home now we can ruin Detroit's season. Gotta be no love for the Sox in Motown right about now. I hope after the Bears game Sunday and Hawks v. Wings Thurs, they hate Chicago like the IOC.
  13. Wow, Leyland going batter to batter in the second inning. I love October baseball.
  14. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:46 PM) Detroit already going to the pen. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I hate the Twinks, but chokes are funny. GO YOU WHITE SOXXXXXXX!!!!!
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) Nice to see, even if it is late in the season. I wonder how long and how much the foot bothered him. Lots. Long.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:20 AM) Super Bowls and Academy Awards always have their international "Ratings" massively over-inflated. That's not the point. The Olympics have always been ratings bonanzas. That's why the rights fees are always astronomical, and sponsors fall all over themselves to be the "official" this or that. Americans don't stop loving sports or rooting for their country just because their team is playing "on the road." The money isn't going to go away just because the U.S. team plays on the road.
  17. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 11:09 AM) Just because in the past American's watched the Beijing Olympics does not mean that 2 Olympics from now Americans will stop watching. Prior to Beijing the US had the Atlanta and Utah games, there wasnt as much belief that the US deserved the games, and there wasnt a blatant screw job by the IOC. What's your point? Are you seriously suggesting that the Bejing Olympics were the only foreign games where ratings were high? Olympics, Super Bowls and Academy Awards have always been the holy trinity of ratings, regardless of site, teams, or films. People have and always will tune in.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:57 AM) Nah IOC has to give the US games if they want the US sponsor money. Do you really think that all of the US sponsors are going to continue to fund the Olympics if we arent getting games? The answer is no. The answer is yes. The Olympics are a made for tv event, and despite the drastic time difference, the Bejing, China Olympics were one of the most viewed events in U.S. television history. That sponsorship money proved to be very well spent. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/columnist/h...s-ratings_N.htm
  19. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:17 AM) It's being run by Daley and his people. 'nuf said. I'm not naive enough to think he won't have influence, but I don't believe any Olympics are "run" by local mayors. There are international checks and balances (largely too ensure the graft is spread around globally).
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) Ding Ding! Projected to Cost: $150 million Actual Cost: $475 million, delayed 4 years. Thus, its a good thing the City wouldn't adminster the Olympics to anywhere near the same degree.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 10:02 AM) What major project in Chicago, in recent history, has gone at or even NEAR budget? Good Lord, "The Bean" was 4x OVER budget and it was just a metal sculpture! Let's not mention htat it takes 3 different union workers to carry a box from the loading dock to your display McCormick Place. Millennium Park is the example I worry about most, but on the other hand, the City did a terrific job with the Democratic National Convention in 1996, so there are examples that cut both ways. And the union/MPEA relationship, though still a problem, is no longer the stuff of urban legend like it used to be. It has significantly improved and is likely to continue getting better.
  22. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Oct 2, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) Will give Eurpoe the 2012, 2014 and 2016 games not real likely. Nope, not likely, but that's why its my "upset special." Besides, Sochhi, Russia is practically Asia, and that geographic argument cuts both ways, as North America has hosted three in a row before (1980, 1984, 1988) as well as in 1994, 2002, and 2010.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 1, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) I'm curious who thinks Madrid is getting it, and why. I'm calling the upset win for Madrid; Spain's Juan Antonio Samaranch and his old boy network of European take advantage of a split between Chicago and Rio in the early rounds of voting, and IOC gives it to Madrid as sort of a "lifetime achievement" award to its former president.
