  1. QUOTE (GordoTheGreat @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) This SCREAMS walk-off. This game has reminded me of that 2000 play-off game most of the night. Hope we're wrong.
  2. One of the greatest fans in the world just dumped a full beer on Shane Victorino as he caught a sacrifice fly. Very classy.
  3. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:03 PM) Man, I haven't gotten to watch a full game in a while.. hoping I can keep the girlfriend off my back enough to catch this one! GO SOX! I trust you meant that figuratively only.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) Did he throw it back? They cut away just as he reached for the "fake" ball from his buddy. Cubbies really getting bent over now. 12-1 in the 4th.
  5. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) Pedro is throwing 94. I had no idea he still had that left in him. He's around the high 80s, but he's pumped it up to the low to mid 90s at times. There's no way that gun is right. It has that ND geek hitting the mid 90's too, and his pitches seem to barely have any zip. Certainly the Phillies' hitters don't think so.
  6. She's obviously going to an in-state school.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) When did Mike Tyson have his face tattoos removed? Somebody's enjoying retirement. Good for him, though. He'll still look chiseled on his statue.
  8. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 08:52 AM) If someone only knows a little bit about baseball they know the Yankees and their biggest rivals. The Yankees are #1 internationally and nationally. If your paycheck depended on ratings, who would you lead off with? This is a very valid point. ESPN is not a public service and any commerical entity has to give the people what they want. However, it seems to me that ESPN's slant towards most things Eastern is manifested by more than just air time and which team's coverage leads off. There's a lot of overall fawning and slurping that creeps into their supposed "sports journalism." The above-cited "Big Papi v. Thome" comment is a prime example, as is the one about all of the last 10 World Series being "tainted." Imo, their bias is reflected in both the quality and quantity of their coverage and analysis.
  9. His attendance comments after the Dodgers series that had me and others so pissed were obviously just a smoke screen. Kudos also to JR and the owners for agreeing to take on the Peavy and Rios deals. These are big-time, ballsy moves.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 07:06 PM) I guess what I meant to say is we're losing all these players, NOT getting any draft picks for them (Dotel/Contreras/Thome and probably Dye, too) and then we're having to give up or surrender draft picks to sign Figgins. So it feels like we are really "losing" two picks. And we really lucked out with the Cabrera and KW "chicken" confrontation on the Dan Ryan, Dick Allen's personal crusade/issue this past offseason. That's why the Alexei Rios deal makes much more sense than overpaying in years, overall dollars and then the draft pick for an aging Figgins..all contribute to making it prohibitively expensive. I said this in another thread, but Moreno will not let himself be outbid when it comes to retaining Figgins. Getting him is a pipedream.
  11. If this is true, between Rios, Peavy and the Coyotes, JR is really spending like the proverbial drunken sailor of late. Ben Gordon must really feel dissed.
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 04:19 AM) First night where we feel the Clayton Richard loss: Win. The second, really (The DJ-led bullpen effort v. NYY on 7/31 was the first). We're 2-0 thus far.
  13. Oz should bring 56 in to break Hafner's face again.
  14. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Aug 8, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) Torres control sucks. So does Alexei's defense.
  15. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) This will probably get me speared, but does Pods' sudden streak of health make anyone else wonder if he found some magic juice? He's married to Lisa Dergen; It wouldn't be worth the risk to his balls.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) I was browsing an Angels board and they sounded pretty worried that KW has had his eye on Figgins for a while, and that this was probably going to raise the asking price for him. There is no way Uncle Jerry can or will outbid Moreno. He's offered more dough the last two times we've gone up against him (Konerko and Hunter). If Sciosa wants to keep Figgins, he's staying an Angel.
  17. QUOTE (kane0730 @ Aug 6, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) I wonder if Kotsay/Wise/Castro find their way into the line-up today. I'm sure we'll see some version of the getaway-day-after-night-game line-up. Probably at least 2 of those 3, if not all.
  18. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) Man our defense sucks. "Tough error," says Hawk.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 5, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) We could do the much better comparison. David Wright's rookie year (69 games) .293/.332/.857 Beckham thus far (52 games) .316/.376/.879 (and this includes his HORRENDOUS START) Plus, Gordon passes the eye-test. He's going to be one of the game's elite. The awesomeness of Gordon Beckham cannot be measured with mere numbers. Much like describing a sunset, 'tis folly to even try.
  20. The dude from the Dos Equis commercials shot himself holding a Gordon Beckham autographed picture. Bacon is now "The Most Interesting Man in the World."
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 4, 2009 -> 05:25 PM) That young whipper snapper Beckham is trying to cause problems again "I smell a rat, boys."
