  1. Angels are gift-wrapping this for us... CAPITALIZE!
  2. It would be nice if Ozzie didn't put all of his eggs in one basket when we have close games like this. Now we have a bunch of AAA players finishing out the game. Alexei has such a good arm... lol
  3. I think we blew our chance right there. Not getting that guy in from third, with no outs, will really kill any momentum you had. I sense a loss coming. I just have a bad feeling.
  4. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 6, 2008 -> 07:36 PM) I thought AJ was supposed to be our smartest base runner. That was worse than Owens. That was a double play if AJ doesn't do that... He kept the inning alive. The guy that moved into second can score on a base hit just as easily as AJ can score from third...
  5. Stupid, stupid base running mistake by Owens. Looks like my wishes for Swisher to come out of his coma came true tonight! Thank you Swish. I'll cut you some slack now.
  6. The next two or so innings will prove what this team is really made of.
  7. Do my eyes deceive me, or did Swisher finally come up with a timely piece of hitting? About time. It's only been about 3 weeks of total and complete suck swinging the bat. lol
  8. Great win. Good to see Konerko, Uribe and the others step up. Know what would be nice? If Swisher came out of his coma.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 5, 2008 -> 05:59 PM) Looks like someone's going to have to change their SN. Yeah, unfortunately, I don't think he's got much of a shot to win the MVP now.
  10. Well, let's look at the bright side. We have remained in first place all year without Paul Konerko playing...(even when he played, up until August, he might as well have not been there). Now Paulie is starting to really hit the ball well again, and CQ is out. We will be fine, as long as our PITCHING doesn't s*** the bed. Paulie has really stepped it up lately. Oh, and for f***'s sake, could Nick Swisher start hitting something?
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:52 PM) Probably because last year I had to watch an outfield of Darin Erstad, Jerry Owens and JD, Pablo Ozuna at 3rd or Andy Gonzalez, Juan Uribe at short hitting like 190, Iguchi or AG, and PK at first. Yeah, this team is the same. How was Jerry Owens in the leadoff spot last year, any worse than OC in the leadoff spot this year? Their stats are pretty much identical.... except Owens actually knows how to steal bases. But OC is a huge improvement huh? lol Some of you guys have blinders on.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:26 PM) I think one can argue that the offseason moves that were trumpeted by the organization as big moves that would help us compete again this year have produced an underwhelming result. However, simply because the moves that were expected to produce the results were not those that actually did, certainly does not make Kenny's offseason moves poor. There is simply no denying the credit that is due both for acquiring CQ and signing Alexei. Looking closely at the entire scope of moves that were made, and not just those that were hyped, results in the quite obvious and indisputable conclusion that Kenny had himself one hell of an offseason. Yeah, I guess I chose the wrong title for this thread. Maybe it should have been "Anyone else hate our hyped up offseason moves?" That would have been more accurate, because I agree that CQ, Alexei, and Linebrink were great pickups. By the way, why do people keep bringing up our improvement over last year? Seriously. Last year was one of the most underperforming White Sox teams I've watched in the last 10 years. We were picked to win the central last year with the team we had... Making zero changes to this team, we still would have improved dramatically over last year. There was no way not to.
  13. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) Well... I agree with your right to say what you think, but suggesting that there is 'no arguing with it' and if someone does that 'they are fooling themselves' is ridiculous. Swisher having an off year does not equal 'sucks'. And suggesting that neither is an improvement over what we had last year tells me you didn't watch much baseball last year. Who says Swisher is having an off year? He's put up pretty much the same numbers his entire career, with a slightly higher average. He hits for power, but not for average. He sees a lot of pitches, walks quite a bit, but strikes out more than he walks. He batted .236 in 2005. He batted .254 in 2006. He batted .262 in 2006... Every year, hitting 20+ home runs. What makes everyone think he's having an off year? This is pretty much what we can expect from Swisher... He's not a good center fielder either... Hey, maybe they're looking to replace PK in the next couple years with Swisher... which would be ok if he could bring up his average and drive in more runs, but he better not be our solution at CF for the future. He doesn't have speed, and his defense leaves a lot to be desired.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) So... let's see if I can summarize about 90% of what I've read in this thread so far in 10 words or less: - Cabrera has dissapointed people - We shoulda got more for Garland Does that pretty much sum it up? (I'm not suggesting I agree with these points. Just trying to sum up the issues underlying many of the critical comments.) Basically, Cabrera has disappointed people, and sucks. Swisher has disappointed people, and sucks, and we gave up way too much to get him. That pretty much sums it up, and there's really no arguing with that, if you've watched the majority of the games this year. Neither are a big improvement over what we had at those positions last year... If you think they are, you're fooling yourself.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) haha, this is true. also, OC .327 OBP and .274 avg, half the K's, more BB. How many games has OC won for us with his "added offense" over Uribe? Now how many games has he cost us with his lackluster effort at SS? Having watched almost every game this year, I can tell you with almost 100% certainty, that he has cost us more games with his s***ty play on defense, than he has won for us with his bat.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 3, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) His defense will sorely be missed. He made outstanding plays at the right time, but his bat seriously sucks when he's hurt. I'd like to sign him back to an injury incentive deal since we have zero other options at 3B. (yes that includes you Josh Fields) What? Joe's defense has been atrocious all year. I think, even with all his time on the DL, he still leads all 3B in errors... We would have been better off with pretty much anyone at 3B this year instead of Joe.
  17. The only way OC brings us two draft picks, is if the White Sox offer him 8+mil next year... if I'm not mistaken. You guys really think that's going to happen? I don't. So he's basically worthless to us. Not disappointed in him? lol You guys don't watch many games, do you? Gold glove caliber my ass. He's got a noodle arm, he doesn't get in front of the ball, he is always taking the round about way to grounders, and he has cost us a LOT of games by not making the play when he needed to. He should probably have anywhere from 5-10 more errors than he's been given credit for. I imagine that's because he's OC, and they don't want to have to deal with him calling them up after every error to argue it.(that just screams selfish) He's playing like a player that is just worried about his statistics, and not what he is contributing to this team winning. His defense has been nothing even CLOSE to what it was touted to be. Highly overrated. As I said, give me Juan Uribe at SS every day. I'd be more than happy with that. At least we knew what to expect day in and day out. A very streaky hitter, with a cannon for an arm, that makes the big plays on defense. Have you even watched the games he's played this year at 3B and SS? He's been pretty excellent. We are in MUCH better shape right now with Garland on this team, instead of OC. At least then, we have a quality pitcher to step in for the injuries. The lack of a #5 in the rotation is going to cost us a playoff spot. Mark my words. We don't NEED OC's offense. All 30 points higher average than Juan Uribe that he brings. Our pitching carried us in the beginning of the year when OC and the rest of our hitters were non-existant. That is, until we started getting hurt... Pitching wins baseball games. If our pitching hadn't went to complete crap after the first few months, we'd be safely in the playoffs right now, because our offense came around. We just started giving up 8 runs a game at the same time. Swisher, .226, and a pretty below average CF on defense. A guy that we gave up two top prospects for. One of which, is a starting pitcher, which, again, we're SORELY lacking right now. Kenny's offseason moves left us with zero options on the mound. P.S. With, or without OC, this team has no leadoff hitter... That has been our NUMBER ONE PROBLEM since we won the WS. It continues to be our #1 problem 3 years later. Completely unacceptable. We will not be competing for the world series until Kenny fixes this.
  18. Yeah, yeah, ironic my name is CQMVP. My point, was that we had holes last year that killed us, and we STILL have those same holes this year. Obviously, given my name, I agree with everyone that says CQ was an absolute steal. No argument there. Ramirez has been a diamond in the rough too. But we really don't know what we have yet with those two. They might put up similiar numbers for the rest of their careers, or this season might just be an anamoly. Either way, they cost us nothing, so those are great moves. OC is not a leadoff hitter, which we've needed since 2005. Nick Swisher is not the CF we've needed, ever since we got rid of Rowand... We've had holes at CF and leadoff hitter since 2005... Three seasons later and we're still trying to address the same holes in our lineup? Come on. Linebrink has been great when he's healthy, but the Brewers really got their money's worth last year after they acquired him. He pitched a TON at the end of the season, and most people would tell you that's the major reason he's been on the DL so much this year. How much does he have left in the tank? Will he even pitch again this year in the ML? That remains to be seen. Our bullpen stats really don't tell the full story this season. We had a stellar first couple months, mostly because of Linebrink being lights out, but it has been a downhill ride ever since. I can't count how many games the bullpen has lost for us over the last two months. How big of an upgrade is OC over Uribe? I don't think he's as solid defensively as Uribe, and he's a little bit better at the plate. It seems like OC's errors come in the worst possible situations, on, what seem to be, relatively routine plays. It also seems to me that they always end up leading to a game being blown wide open and out of reach. I'd definitely prefer to have John Garland in the lineup right now, and Uribe playing every day at SS. Even if OC is a slight upgrade at the plate. On to Swisher over Brian Anderson.... Defensively? Not even close. Give me BA any day of the week. Offensively? Well, Swisher is batting an amazing .226 right now. He's what, 2 for his last 30? BA is at .235, and it's a lot harder to get hits in the situations that BA has been this season. He comes into the games late and gets one, maybe two at bats. Yeah, I would actually prefer BA in the lineup every day over Swisher. Call me crazy! I just think that Kenny could have done a much, much better job in the offseason. Ultimately, I think the Swisher and OC moves will be the reason we don't go anywhere this year, IF we can somehow make it into the playoffs. With the way we've been playing lately, I really don't see us holding off the Twins, and if we do, we're one and done. Our pitching is starting to drop off. Danks seems like he's running on empty, and we only have four legitimate starters to begin with. Now we may be down to three? Our bullpen is still not healthy, and they do their job one out of every 5 games. Our offense has been sporadic, at best. If we don't hit home runs, we don't win. Period. I hope I'm wrong, but I've watched pretty much every game over the last 3 months...and this is just what I've witnessed.
  19. QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 07:43 PM) no. i would say Q has been decent, jackass Alexei has been money, no doubt about that. But he was a rookie signing. We took a chance on Quentin and we got lucky. Thankfully, his injury bugs seem to be behind him and he's back to form. But Kenny expected very little out of him, and he even stated when we acquired CQ, that he was still looking for upgrades in the outfield. We acquired OC and Swisher just so Kenny could claim "big" offseason acquisitions, and both of those deals sucked, IMO. I'd rate our offseason moves as poor to average. We gave up a lot more than we got in return. Certainly, our "big" deals didn't pan out how they should have, for what we gave up. Sweeney may turn out to be a better player than Swisher, and Gio may be a legit #2 starter.... We could definitely use Garland right now...
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Sep 2, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) Boone needs to go to hell!!! Who put him in the game? That is who should be blamed. Every White Sox fan watching this game sighed in disbelief as soon as he took the mound. We all knew what was coming next.
  21. Boone Logan..... LOL That's really all I can say about it. Ozzie managed this game terribly.
  22. Swisher and OC have been total disappointments this year. I can't stand either of them. I certainly hope Kenny has some better moves this upcoming offseason, or you can forget about playoffs next year. Right now, we're really lucky that Detroit and Cleveland have had terrible seasons.
  23. Did we just lead off the inning with a double, and then fail to even move him over to 3rd?
  24. Thornton needs to shut these guys down quick and get Soria back on the field in the next few minutes. By the way, I like Brian Anderson better than anyone else on this team for CF. I can't believe I'm saying that... heh Edit: Way to throw a cookie out there Matt.
