  1. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Aug 17, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) OK, I don't know how popular this topic is going to be, but I am curious to see if there is anybody else out there like me. Does anybody else somewhat resent football for taking all the national and local attention away from baseball once NFL training camp starts? Sometimes it feels like the trade deadline July 31 is the last time baseball gets the spotlight, from a coverage/attention point of view. Then NFL training camp starts, followed by the ultra-meaningless preseason games that are really hyped up, (then 20 pages of coverage about Cutler's two, yes, two passes), and baseball doesn't really take center stage again until the World Series. I work at a bar with one big main TV at the front. Not once, not twice, but THREE times over the past two weeks I was asked to change the channel from a pennant race baseball game (twice it was the Sox) to a pre-season football game. I know I shouldn't complain about other people's preferences, but this always manages to get me frustrated. Don't get me wrong, I AM a Bears fan. But I am far and away a baseball fan first. Football only really matters to me on Sundays in the fall/winter. I don't hate football, but I can't stand how America and Chicago makes it such a big deal, bigger than baseball, while there are pennant races going on. Or when the Sox tank and a popular post on Sox message boards is "I've got one thing to say: Go Bears!" To me, the Sox are so much more important. Anyway, maybe I'm the only one who feels this way. Football is king, in this city and in this country, and I should just accept it. But does anybody else resent it a little? Dude, I feel EXACTLY the same way you do. I HATE football and it always pisses me off how football gets more national attention. It also pisses me off how newpapers devote so many pages to football and the Bears and I gotta flip through a ton of pages just to find the baseball articles. >:-| And if I was working in a bar with just 1 tv, and someone asked to change the channel to a football game while a Sox game was on, I would've just lied to the clown and said other people in the bar are watching the Sox game.
  2. J4L, were you getting your eyebrow threaded at one of those kiosks at the mall? /:-/ /:-/

  4. Seeing all those Elvis impersonators got me thinking for a second... It would be cool if a wrestling promotion had a stabe of wrestlers, similar to the Dudleys in the original ECW, except they're all Elvis impersonators. Kinda like the group of guys from "3000 Miles to Graceland", with a black, hispanic, asian, and even indian Elvis impersonator thrown in. I'd watch that.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) He pitched better today but there is still more to be seen with Jackson he's something special and I'm stoked to have him now wake the f*** up bats!!!!!!! Hell yea!!! : Jackson is a stud!
  6. Hell yea, I always like it when Pierre gets on base in the first at-bat.
  7. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:25 AM) It's difficult for me to give Walker credit. We see Coop take on pitchers that have failed elsewhere and succeed here. We don't really see that with our hitters. And at the end of the day our offense is around middle of the pack. Exactly! When has Walker ever taken in a batter that had a bad track record and transformed them like Coop does to pitchers? If Walker was any good, guys like Brian Anderson would've been better.
  8. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 09:14 AM) LOL GTFO!! Did Ozzie really say this? lol, yea, Ozzie was "feuding" with Showalter when Showalter was the manager of the Rangers. In fact, Ozzie used to make fun of how meticulous Showalter was when it came to managing, so he made fun of Showalter's obsession to detail by filling out a lineup card with mug shots of White Sox players and fake email addresses, and gave it to either the umpire or Showalter. lol I can't find the article now, but I remember reading about it in either the newspaper or the White Sox website.
  9. Alrighty, I'm starting this gamethread now so I don't forget later. Lets keep this thing moving and win, win, win! The White Sox head to Baltimore, lets leave Baltimore with another series win and put more ground between the Sox and Minnesota in the standings! White Sox (62-46) @ Baltimore (35-73) 6:05pm CDT J. Danks vs. B. Bergesen C'mon Danks, do your thing and get it done!
  10. Kotsay has 5 rbi's in this game, lol. I was actually laughing before he hit that triple, lmao. XD
  11. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:36 PM) I like it. I'd grow one like that if it wouldn't get me fired. What job would fire you for growing a goatee???
  12. I just LOL'd. One of the anouncers on tv was talking about Kotsay's home run and said: "He found a place to hit it where they can't field it." lol
  13. Since I plan on sleeping in late tomorrow, I'm posting the game thread right now. Lets win this thing!!! White Sox vs. Detroit at 12:05pm CDT, Garcia takes his mystifying junkballs up against the wildness of Scherzer,... who will win??? The Sox are now 29 wins away from 90, lets get win # 62!
  14. I wonder when we'll see Sale pitch. I'd have to guess the Sox would pitch him in a blowout instead of a 4-run game.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) Jackson continues to do an amazing job throwing his fastball for strike. He hasn't had 3 balls on anyone yet. Now THAT is awesome.
  16. Wow, that inning made me nervous for a sec, I thought both of those flyballs were gonna be homers. I'm really glad it ended up being 3 outs, nice.
  17. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) Keep in mind that Coop is probably working a very specific plan with Jackson. Starting out throwing only 2 pitches... telling him "don't worry about whether guys get hits, we don't care... just throw strikes". It's very similar to what they did with Thornton at first. They want to establish his ability to throw strikes... period. And then build on that. I really hope that's what they're doing with Jackson. If it is, then Jackson can be a BEAST!
