  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) In protest to all of this Adrian Gonzalez talk, I want to talk about Gordon Beckham as a long-term White Sox player. I was taking a look at Evan Longoria's contract, and truthfully, I would offer Beckham the same thing. This is Longoria's: 2008 0.5 2009 0.55 2010 0.95 2011 2.0 2012 4.5 2013 6.0 2014 7.5 opt 2015 11.5 opt 2016 11.5 opt 9 yrs/45 mil Locked up until he's 31 yrs old. This looks like a contract that Longoria will regret signing someday, but if Beckham would sign, I'd do it today. Lol, it's kind of funny how some people might "regret" signing a 45 million contract. Unless Longoria is living like a balla, 45 million ought to last him for the rest of his life.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) ahhh ok. I had the opposite impression that they dissipated over distance. Thanks for some education! Anytime bro! I saw a show about tsunamis about a year ago on the history channel and I found it fascinating.
  3. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 27, 2010 -> 01:49 PM) Perhaps the smarter people around here could enlighten me, but from Chile to Hawaii seems like a REAL long distance for a tsunami to travel. Actually, a tsunami is kind of like a ever-increasing wave that continues to get bigger.... bigger.... bigger.... BIGGER... BIIIIIIGGGGGER until it runs out of water when it hits a shore. That's how a tsunami travels across an ocean and why places as far off as Japan and Russia has tsunami warnings. For example, in the 2004 tsunami, it started after an ocean earthquake, I believe, near the sundra trench, and what began as a wave, a vibration in the water, kept rippling away from the epicenter and as it kept rippling away the ripples get bigger and bigger as it travels on water over a long distance until that initial ripple becomes a big gigantic monster wave of a tsunami that devastates everything in it's path. Which is what hit Thailand, etc. I hope Japan and Russia doesn't take much damage, they might get tsunamis worse than what will hit Hawaii, because the tsunami will build up even more over an even longer distance.
  4. Thunderbolt, Jones hit 17 home runs in limited at-bats in Texas. If he had 500 at-bats, he whould've hit 25 homers easily.
  5. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 01:42 AM) Do you really think Thome is worthless? You do know he was the Sox best hitter last year, right? The fact that he was our best hitter is pretty sad. As far as I'm concerned, we never won a world series with him, so he never helped. Sure his home run won us game 163, but he didn't help us win in the postseason, did he? All he did was clog up the basepaths, and when we got him the rest of the lineup adopted the swing-for-the-fences mentality.
  6. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) We don't need versatility at this point. There is plenty of that. I posted this a few pages back but I guess it needs to be repeated... C: A.J., Castro, Flowers, and they're even having Retherford take reps at C. 1B: Konerko, Kotsay, Flowers - really anybody. 2B: Beckham, Teahen, Alexei, Nix, Vizquel, Retherford, Lillibridge, SS: Alexei, Beckham, Vizquel, Nix, Lillibridge, 3B: Teahen, Beckham, Vizquel, Nix, Retherford, Lillibridge RF: Quentin, Rios, Kotsay, Jones, Teahen CF: Rios, Jones, Pierre, Alexei LF: Pierre, Quentin, Jones, Kotsay We don't need more versatility. We need someone who will give the Sox strong offensive production. Jones/Kotsay will not do that. A rotation would be fine if it was the result of too much talent in a crowded lineup, something like 4 really good OFers. That's not the case here. You really shouldn't be counting minor league guys, because we know they won't spend much time on the 25-man roster. So taking your list and making some adjustments based on how Ozzie is most likely to utilize his roster, our team's versatility looks like this: C: A.J., Castro. 1B: Konerko, Kotsay. 2B: Beckham, Nix, Vizquel. SS: Alexei, Vizquel, Nix. 3B: Teahen, Vizquel, Nix RF: Quentin, Rios, Kotsay, Jones. CF: Rios, Jones, Pierre. LF: Pierre, Jones, Kotsay *notes* I doubt Ozzie would ever plan on using Alexei and Teahen in the outfield, so lets strike those guys out of those positions. Also, lets just assume that Beckham, Alexei, and Teahen will be pencilled in at 2nd, SS, and 3B respectively in every game possible, because Ozzie usually prefers to have his starters stay at their everyday positions and have someone from the bench substitute for an injured player. This is why we never saw Quentin play anywhere else on the field except for LF, and why Ozzie rarely moved around Alexei and Beckham during the course of the season. It's only rare cases where Ozzie has players play out of position, such as when Dye played shortstop a few seasons ago, so we shouldn't really be considering starters' other positions as a method of verstatility. This is why it'd be good to have a DH type who can play in the field and sub for a player each day of the week instead of having a worthless DH-only player like Thome.
  7. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 03:37 PM) yep! thats the best course of action really. One of the most heart attack inducing burgers on the menu is the Goblin Cock which is essentially a Chicago style hotdog on top of a 10 oz patty, with neon green relish and all, yummm.. Also their beer selection is top notch, and they are the only place i know that has Jack Daniels, ON TAP!! :headbang :headbang lol, where exactly is this Kuma's place located at, again? I'm gonna have to get me some take-out sometime soon.
  8. QUOTE (juddling @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 05:45 PM) I, too, was going to suggest Fuddruckers on this thread. there is one in Matteson at corner of Rt. 30 and cicero. at least it was there a couple months ago I can confirm it's still there. I just drove past it the other day.
  9. Sprite soda. I never drink that soda except for when I'm sick, and I find it to be soothing to drink when I'm sick.
  10. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 02:17 AM) Darn Trekkies are trying to be pretend reporters! this Cowley reference made me LOL'd. :
  11. QUOTE (3E8 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 12:06 AM) 4-Locke 8-Reyes 15-Ford 16-Jarrah 23-Sheppard 42-Kwon Hmmmmm, could this be the order these characters get killed off this season??? Locke is already dead.... and 2 seasons ago Sun had a flashforward where she was at Jin's grave.
  12. either Rowand or Swish. Having an outfield of Pierre/Rios/Rowand or Pierre/Rios/Swish with Quentin as DH in both scenarios would've been pretty nice. I actually always wished the Thome/Rowand trade never happened.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) Yeah, the next scene they showed everyone. I am going to be interested to see tomorrow when the easter egg site gets all of their screen shots up. what's the link to this Lost easter egg site? Is it spoiler-free?
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) How many names could people make out in the cave? All I got were Reyes and Jarrah. I noticed there were a lot of names, and I was trying to figure out some of the names that were already crossed out, and I'm pretty sure one of the names I saw crossed out was Dorrit, as in Naomi Dorrit of the mercenaries.
  15. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) It's obvious a lot of you are not business travelers. And what are you saying? Are you saying you rather sit in a plane that has First class/business class with unneccessary amenities? Can't fly without a fancy glass of wine, a hot blanket, a pillow and blanket, and a full course meal? Don't like sitting with the "peasants" in coach? I like Southwest because people don't get special treatment just because they're business travellers or rich. You kinda sound like a snob. :-/
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) I'd rather wait an additional 2 minutes to get on a plane then be treated like I'm in a 3rd world country. I actually felt like I was treated better by the flight attendants on all my flights with Southwest than my experience with Delta. I experience very bad ear problems when I fly where my left ear never pop and it sometimes gives me very badheadaches or makes me dizzy, and the flight attendants I had with Southwest were very hospitable and caring towards me and checked on me a few times to see if I was okay. One even slipped me a full can of soda and extra peanuts to help with my discomfort. However, on Delta, the flight attendants didn't really care and never checked up on my well-being when I brought it to their attention that I was experiencing the same dizziness discomforts.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 01:04 PM) Actually, there's legitimate science behind this...if you model the traffic/people flow patterns, this legitimately winds up being the fastest way to board a plane. I actually prefer being able to sit wherever I want. The first couple times I ever flew a plane, I flew Southwest and I was able to sit in any seat I wanted, so my friends and I sat together, and everything was comfortable. However, the first time I flew a plane alone, which was last summer, I flew Delta. I didn't know I was assigned a seat on my ticket with Delta because I was very used to being able to sit wherever I wanted with Southwest. Anyway, on my flight on Delta to NYC, I was on a flight that didn't have many passengers, so I unknowingly sat on a seat that was unassigned to me and the flight attendants didn't care and didn't fuss about it. But on my return flight to Chicago, it was jam-packed and still being unaware of the whole "assigned seats" thing, I sat on the first empty row by myself because I didn't want to sit next to strangers. Well, some people who boarded the plane late made a big deal because apparently I was sitting on their seat, and I had to move to the seat I was assigned to. So for a 3 hour flight I was stuck sitting next to this strange weird guy in his 40's wearing really short 1970's shorts and I felt uncomfortable the whole time. With how Delta assigns seats, I don't even know how friends can sit next to each other if they book their plane tickets separately. If 3 friends book separate tickets on the same flight on Delta, they can all be sitting in 3 different parts of the plane, and that sucks. So, if I can ever help it, I will try not to fly Delta again and try my best to always fly with Southwest because I like the freedom of being able to choose to sit whereever I want want on Southwest instead of having to follow rigid assigned seating ruled with Delta and other airlines.
  18. I went to Burger N Que again today and noticed on the menu that they had a Venison Burger, a Turkey Burger, and an Ostrich Burger. I was intriqued,... so I got the Ostrich Burger. :-D The Ostrich burger was very good, they made it with mustard, pickles, and tomatoes, and the burger itself tasted good, it was kinda tougher than normal beef, and it was also a little saltier. 2 Thumbs up.
  19. The hamburger thread made me think of this one. I love bratwurst, it's something I would eat everyday if I could, but if I wanted to get a bratwurst without having to make it myself, where can I get one in the south suburbs??? It seems like most places only carry polish sausage, which is something I don't care for, and it's nothing like bratwurst. It also seems like places that serve bratwurst only serves it as a weekly special or the place is a gas station such as Jewel's gas stations. Why is bratwurst so hard to find in the south suburbs? I even went to some breweries, and none of them served bratwurst. Why does it seem like bratwurst is some kind of mythical and unattainable food? So yea,... where can someone go to get bratwurst in the south suburbs?
  20. Bumping this thread to give praise to an awesome burger place I found in Orland Park: Burger N Que, located on Wolf Road south of 167th street, but just north of Route 6. They have awesome burgers that taste like they're homemade, they're thick as hell and very delicious. They also have a "Hawaiian Burger" and other cool burgers. They also have a Char Chili-Cheese hotdog that's HUGE!!! The hotdog is almost as big as a kid's wrist. Check it out sometime.
  21. Derek Vineyard in "American History X"
  22. How about John Kramer from the "Saw" films. His reasons and methods of "testing" his victims were very morally ambiguous.
  23. Maybe the reason why San Diego didn't trade away Adrian yet is because they're still trying to sell as many pre-season ticket deals and season packages as they can knowing they're likely to sell more while still having Adrian Gonzalez. If they traded away Adrian Gonzalez right now, then they would probably more than likely see a dip in ticket sales sold pre-season than they would if they waited as late into the off-season as possible.
